When you go into the speaking test, the examiner grades you in four areas:

FC--Fluency & coherence

GA--Grammar Range & Accuracy

LR--Lexical Resource

PR--Pronunciation

Now to be honest every examiner knows what the strong and weak areas are for Chinese students. They all know that LR, which we can also call vocabulary is generally their strong point and FC and PR are generally the weaker. That does not mean that all students will have the same problems. The average IELTS score for Chinese students is 5.5.

The profile usually breaks down like this. Examiners called this a “jagged profile” because on a graph it looks like a jagged line。

FC 5 GA 6 PR 5 LR 6

If we take an average of these four scores we can see that is 5.5 score. This means that any strategy you use for passing the IELTS test should concentrate on FC and PR more than GA and LR. I am not saying that you should forget about GA and LR completely, just focus on the typical weak points。

In the next few parts I will take a look at each area and discuss how you can increase your scores by looking at what examiners want. On the next page you can see a checklist of basic questions that you can ask yourself during the exam. If you can manage to pay attention to all of these points, then you are going to succeed on the exam。

A point that I want to remind you of, is that it is always your weak points that will pull you down, so remember to maintain your strong points, but really focus on your weak points so that everything evens out。

Part I问题:Why did you choose to study that subject?

针对这个问题,可能你的雅思口语老师会教你用“the reason why I…is that…” The reason why I choose to study this subject is that I am interested in learning it at that time。

很显然,正确的回答应该把句中的choose变为chose,is变为was,am也要相应的变成was: 如:The reason why I chose to study this subject was that I was interested in learning it at that time.

错误二:there be句型与have/has混杂使用

There has been a big change in my hometown.

There have many wild animals in my country. There are many wild animals in my country.或My country has many wild animals.

It's more easy for me to find a job with this major. It's easier for me to find a job with this major.

I'm surprised about this piece of news. b. something make(s) somebody + 以ed结尾的形容词

如:This piece of news makes me surprised. This piece of news is surprising. b. This is a surprising piece of news.

如:listen to, go to, look forward to, pay attention to等等。

I thought the reason why I chose to study that subject was I could got a better job after learning that。 I thought the reason why I chose to study that subject was I could get a better job after learning that.

Examiner: Have you been to any concerts or museums in your town?

Candidate: Well, I have never been to one, but in my spare time, I always enjoy doing many other things like...

“ well”

“you know”

“actually”

“I mean”

“personally”

“to be honest”

“on the other hand”

“frankly”

“as a matter of fact“等等,

2. And that means…

3. Let me put it another way,…

4. What I’m suggesting is…

5. All I’m trying to say is…

6. What I’m getting at is…

7. If I can rephrase that…

8. Perhaps I should make that clearer by saying…

9. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say…

10. The point I’m making is that…

1. Have I given you enough information?

2. Would you like me to tell you more about…?

3. Is that all you’d like to know?

1. I’m afraid that’s about as much as I know.

2. I think that’s all.

3. I can’t think of anything else right now…

4. Is there anything else you wish to know?

Describe a positive change that you have made to your life.

You should say:

what the change was

when it happened

where it happened

and explain how you have benefited from this change

Ok, well the positive change which I would like to tell you about was actually a pretty simple one, but it's improved my life a great deal, and basically all it was, was getting up an hour earlier every day.

The reason I started doing it was because it got to the point where my whole day was taken up with various stuff, like classes and homework, and I found that I hardly had any free time left. So I kind of realized that the only way to make more time for myself was to get up earlier, and so that's what I decided to do. It wasn't easy at first, especially when it was cold, but thankfully it got a lot easier, and now I find it no effort at all getting out of bed at five in the morning,

Anyway, as for when I first started doing this, well, I guess it must have probably been about two or three years ago, round about the time I was busy preparing for my university entrance exams, and I was getting up at something like five or six every morning to revise. And after my exams finished, I remember thinking to myself, wouldn't it be good to continue getting up early and have all this extra time to do things at the beginning of the day.

So that's pretty much how it all started, and finally, with regard to how I've benefited from this change, well to put it simply, I'd say I've benefited immensely, in more ways than one. For example, it's given me time to do a bit of exercise every day, which I didn't use to have time for. So now I've become a lot fitter. And as well as this, I also now have the time to eat a proper breakfast every day, instead of skipping it, like I used to do, so I've basically become much healthier as a result.

That's more or less everything, I guess, so thanks very much for listening.

Describe your favourite park/garden.

You should say:

Where it is

What can be seen there

How often you go there

And explain why you like it.

Well, as you can imagine, I've been to quite a few parks and gardens, but if I had to pick a favourite, I guess I would probably say Taiziwan Park, which is somewhere in the centre of Hangzhou, not far from the West Lake.

And regarding what you can see there, well I guess the first thing to mention would be the tulips, which are really gorgeous, and are all over the place. In fact, I'm sure if you look on the Internet, you'll probably be able to see some photos of the park and the flowers. And as well as the tulips, another thing that a lot of people go to see is the cherry blossom, which is quite literally stunning, especially in the spring time. Unfortunately though, I've seen quite a number of people shaking the blossom off the branches, which means it disappears quicker than it would do naturally. So it's a bit of a pity, as nothing much can really be done about it. But anyway, it's honestly no exaggeration to say that the park is incredibly beautiful, and that's why you'll also see a lot of young couples there taking wedding photos.

Anyway um, as for how often I go there, well if truth be told, I don't really go there all that often, probably only something like three or four times a year, the main reason being that it gets really crowded on weekends, and it's a bit of an effort to get to from where I live.

So finally then, with regard to why I like this park, well there's not really that much more to say about it, you know, it's just a really nice and scenic place to go and relax. Oh yeah, and the other great thing about it is that it's free entrance, which didn't use to be the case a while ago, so I guess I'll be going there more often in the future!

What's the best time of a day? In terms of the best time of a day,…..,或者你在句尾,最后再来一句,I think it is the best time for me.

How's the traffic in your hometown? Are there any fitness facilities in your community?针对于这些有种地域限制的考题中,in your hometown和in your community都是地点限制的短语。

Is it convenient for you to buy fresh vegetables and fruits?

比如what book was your favourite one in your childhood? If you can redesign your home, what would you do- Would you like to change your job in the future- 在回答这些题目时我们也要用到虚拟语态,也是我们需要练习的重点。

Fine thank you, and you.

最新5-8月雅思口语Part2话题范文:a time you moved to a new home or school

You should say:

When did you move

Where did you move

Why did you move

How did you feel about the moving

I would like to talk about a time I moved to a new apartment when I was in college in the United States. I have a very clear memory of it because it was the first time that I moved without the help of my parents. It was about five years ago, and I decided to move to a new apartment at that time because my old apartment raised the rent by a large margin, and I couldn’t afford it anymore. At first, I thought that this would not be a very difficult task because of my lack of experience at moving, so you know, I didn’t call anybody to help me. But it turned out that I made a terrible, terrible mistake. It took me almost a whole day to just clean my home and pack up everything, and I never realized that I had so much stuff in my home. I had loads of laundry and stacks of books, all of which I had to carry all by myself. What’s even worse was that I lived on the second floor and I had to carry all the heavy furniture through the stairs. I remember I almost broke my back on that day trying to drag my mattress onto the moving van. And when the job was finally finished, I looked like I just came out of a swimming pool. All my clothes were completely soaked by my sweat, and I felt like I didn’t even have the strength to lift a finger anymore. Still, after two days of hard work, the moving was finally complete. Even though I was exhausted, I still felt very happy that I moved into a new home all by myself for the first time.

最新5-8月雅思口语Part2话题范文:a time when you receive something for free

You should say:

What it was

When and where you got it

Why you got it

And explain how you felt about it.

It’s pretty common for us to receive something free when we go shopping or eating out, especially if there is a sales promotion.

Last month, I decided to have my hair cut since my hair was a little bit long for me. There was a newly opened barbershop across the campus according to my best friend. He had his haircut done there. In the afternoon on a weekend, I walked to the shop from my dormitory with him. However, since I hadn’t made a barbering appointment in advance, I had to wait for a while – there were a couple of customers before me. When it was my turn, the barber washed my hair with shampoo. I could feel the lather on my hair. Then the barber covered my head with a hot towel, and gave me a haircut, using the straight razor shave. He cut my hair to fit my head shape, and listened to my special request that I would like it to be shorter. After that, he also trimmed my beard.

It was a great service. When I was about to pay and leave the shop, I was told that the service was free! The reason was that it was my friend who had recommended the shop to me, and my friend held its membership. So I could get a free haircut at the first time. This was something really out of expectation. I decided to get a membership in the shop as well. It wasn’t too pricey, 500 yuan for a year and a half. When I got my membership card, the barber also handed me a box. It was a free gift for the new membership. The gift was a little lamp, which would be very useful to me when I did my homework in the evening.

Anyway, both the free service and the free gift made me really satisfied with the visit.

最新5-8月雅思口语Part2话题范文:a time you saw lots of people were smiling

You should say:

When did you see them

Where did you see them

Who you were with

And explain why people were smiling

This topic reminds me of the time we took class pictures on graduation day.(毕业集体照)

Actually, we all had mixed feelings,(五味陈杂) on the one hand, we were pretty psyched about graduating from university and getting a diploma.on the other hand, we also felt a little bit sad ‘cause we had to say goodbye to all the classmates who have spent the last four years with each other. However, when we took the picture, we still didn’t forget to be funny. I mean, we made faces and posed hilariously to the camera despite the photographer’s objection. He was so pissed off(摄影师怒了).In the end, he couldn’t stand us anymore, and shouted, couldn’t you guys act like normal people and just smile to the camera? After we were done having fun, we thought, maybe we should listen to the photographer and take a decent picture together. So we stood still, and said cheese when he clicked the shutter(说茄子按快门).After we got the picture, we were surprised to see that everybody looked great in the picture, I mean, we all had a sweet smile on our face, looking energetic and hopeful.I framed the picture and put it on my bookshelf. It would bring back memories (回忆)from my college years.

Every time I saw those smiling faces I would recall all the precious moments we had together during those four years, and I just couldn’t help cracking a smile.

最新5-8月雅思口语Part2话题范文:an interesting conversation you had with a stranger

You should say

- who the person was

- where the conversation took place

- what you talked about

- and explain why you found the conversation interesting.

1.I’m going to talk about an interesting conversation that I had a couple of weeks ago in a music shop. I was walking along one of the main shopping streets in the city centre, when a large window displaying all sorts of musical instruments caught my eye. Out of curiosity, I decided to go in and have a look around.

2.The person I ended up speaking to was a shop assistant on the second floor, in the area of the shop dedicated to acoustic guitars. I hadn’t intended to speak to anyone, but the assistant approached me in a friendly way and asked whether I had any questions.

3.I explained to the assistant that I hadn’t played the guitar for years, but that I wondered what the differences were between the various acoustic guitars on show. He talked to me about the different makes and models, whether they were factory or hand made, the woods and varnishes used, the variation in sound quality, and of course the price range.

4.I found the conversation fascinating because the shop assistant was so knowledgeable. It was obvious that he had a passion for the guitar, and he didn’t mind talking to me even though I had made it clear that I didn’t intend to buy anything. He even picked up and played three or four of the instruments to demonstrate the differences in their sound.

Fluency and Coherence

在进行观点的拓展的时候,利用for example, for instance, I remember that..

Vocabulary

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

Pronunciation

Do you like watching movies? / How often do you go to the cinema?

Definitely, watching movies is my cup of tea. You know, I’m always busy in studying. But I will go to the cinema as often as possible, maybe once every other week because it is one of my favourite ways to relax. I believe films are a wonderful form of art. Many of my friends have the same habit, so we always go to Wanda International Cinema on weekends together, which I think is the best cinema in Beijing.

Why do you like to watch films?

Firstly, I think watching films is a good way to relax. You know, when watching a film, I will throw all of my emotion to the story so that I can forget nearly everything about myself, especially the troubles. Also, I can learn many things from the roles in films, for example, I learned how to join forces to fight again devil from my favourite movie .

Do you like to watch films in the cinema or at home?

I prefer watching films in the cinema, absolutely. You know, the atmosphere and the sound effect are prefect in the cinema, which you cannot feel at home, facing a small screen, especially for scientific and horror. So you can understand the story and the roles’ emotion better, also you are able to learn more from the films.

What kind of films do you like?

I love fancy film the most. They are full of magic, imagination and creativity. I believe only imagination can make our real life more colorful. My favorite movie is , which is typical of this kind of movies. I admire J.K.Rowling, the producer of it; I really wonder how those wonderful ideas came from her head!

Who is your favorite movie star?

My favorite movie star is Yang Ziqiong, who is very famous not only in China but also in Hollywood. She is one of the earliest actresses accepted by Hollywood and became popular in the world. She’s good at martial arts. She’s not very beautiful but her kongfu is really amazing, quick, clear-cut and powerful. I think she’s the proud of China, not only for her position in Hollywood, but also because she spread Chinese traditional kongfu in the world.

What’s the difference between American films and Chinese films?

I think the biggest difference lies in the purpose of the film, result from the level of freedom. You know, most of Chinese films just describe an ordinary story and focus on teaching the audience some principles, because the government controls the contents of films stringently. But because of freedom, the purpose of most American films is to give audience an impressive shock, and then earn enormous profits.
