Describe a person that moved home
Speaking of a person who moves to a new accommodation, I just think of my friend Linda. Her neighbor frequently played his music excessively loud, which rattles the change off her coffee table. She spoke to him repeatedly and he always turns it down to merely loud. But then turns it back up within the hour. She said she couldn't stand her downstairs neighbor any more so she changed her living place. Now her new neighbors are about 70 years old and they are very quiet. She stays at college most of the time. They don’t have anything in common and just say “hi” when they meet.
The new accommodation she moves to is in a suburb. Linda has to drive 20 minutes to go to the grocery store. But she doesn't mind it because she can live in a bigger than before. When she looks out of the window, she can see the flowers and cute birds flying in the sky. The only thing should be improved of her new accommodation is the blue-color stars all over the walls. Although they glow in the dark, during the day they make her feel depressed. Therefore, she plans to add some posters on them.
My cousin just moved to a new place near her school.
She is about to start her senior year in high school, which means she’s under huge pressure ‘cause the college entrance exam is just around the corner. So she needs a proper environment to prepare for her exam. However, the apartment she used to live in can’t give her that. I mean, her neighbors are party animals, and they always like to throw parties and play loud music at night, which made it really difficult for her to concentrate on her study. Also, there’s a homeless dog wandering around in her old neighborhood, and kept barking at night, you can imagine how noisy it was right? Plus, she had easy access to the Internet in her old house, which was a huge distraction for her. She couldn’t resist the temptation of those social networking websites and she always liked to chat with her friends online.
So in order to make her more focused, her mom decided to rent a new place near her school, for one thing, that would be convenient for her to get to school. For another, she could have a quieter environment to study.
Now in her new apartment, there’re only two bedrooms, and there’s no TV, no WI-Fi, so all she could do is study. Her mom is quite satisfied with the new arrangement, however, I’m sure for my little cousin, it must be a torture.
My friend Xiao Ming just moved into a new apartment off campus because he couldn’t stand the terrible environment in his dorm.
Here’s the story.
He had 5 roommates, so you can imagine how cramped it was. And you know how boys are like in college right? I mean, there was one roommate who never changes his socks, and he also doesn’t like to take a shower. And one of his roommates is a heavy smoker, the worst part is, he never smokes outside. So you can imagine the smell in his dorm, uh? It was unbearable. And it is really noisy as well. All of his roommates are big fans of video games, so every night the dorm is just like an Internet bar, you know, full of people who kept yelling and screaming to their microphones, which made it really hard for him to go to sleep.
And the most annoying thing was, a few weeks ago, some of them kept a dog in the dorm, who always made a huge mess and kept barking at night. Actually it’s against school policy, but he couldn’t tell on his roommates, you know, ‘cause that would reflect badly on me.
So they left him no choice but to move away.
Right now he’s living in a studio all by himself, which is much quieter and cleaner than before.

This topic reminds me of an experience of moving house taking place 13 years ago when I was to enter the primary school. It happened that the headquarter of my father’s company was relocated; so he had to change the working place from the small city we lived to the provincial city Jinan.
It was a long-distance moving, so we borrowed a van from the relative. We took most of the furniture we could carry and left some big ones like the bed and wardrobe. It was quite unforgettable experience to me, because that’s the first time I left the flat we lived fornearly 7 years.
One day later, we settled down in a more spacious flat with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a small kitchen and a beautiful balcony with French windows. I went to a famous primary school with good teaching quality and fame. Currently, my parents and I still live there.
That was the only time of house moving I experienced, but it changed my life thoroughly.

我听一个口语外教曾经说,a successful international speaker should grab several tones.

Talking about a person of decency, the first man popping into my head would be Mr. Zeng who happens to be my teacher. He is polite not because he greets people in the morning, but because of his true respect for everyone. You know, most teachers in China, as they are invariably superior intellectually, would despise those holding different opinion with them. It is true when they face their colleague, and it is no less true when they confront their student. They often tend to criticise the student if he/she has an opposed idea about some issue. Yet, Mr. Zeng is completely different. He is such a gentleman that he respects all the ideologies he meets. When talking about the westward movement, he would ask us of our opinions. One of my classmates said the Movement was doing more harm to the diversity of American culture than shaping it. The entire classroom then was filled with scorn. However, Mr. Zeng did not. He calmed the class, and asked the student the reasons of saying so. After the reply, he admitted that it was such a great idea which may change the history of history and that he would take this ideology as a fraction of his teaching content next semester. That's when I realized that what true politeness is. Mr. Zeng showed me that kind words and compliments are not indicators of politeness. Instead, it is the respect for people especially people's way of thinking that paves the road for the grand hall of gentleman.

This is an interesting question. I know a bunch of people who have really good manners. On top of my list though, is this guy I met in high school. What was his name...um Chris. That’s right. He was a foreign teacher from the united states, and I studied under him for a year. What’s great about him was that he never made me feel uncomfortable in any way in our English conversations. As someone who had been struggling with English speaking, I must say that’s very impressive. You know how intimidating those conversations can be. Well actually you wouldn’t know because English is your mother language. But anyone in China with the experience of learning English as a second language knows how difficult it is to create an environment in which Chinese students feel comfortable speaking.
He did it with his politeness and the respect he showed to every student, whether they were good at English or not. He was very successful in making us feel confident around him. For example, what he usually do is he would see you coming from a mile away and start waving his hand, walk towards you and raise his tone of voice to suggest that he was pleased to see you. No one thought he was acting either, because he wasn’t faking his passion for his students. Another thing that he used to do during conversations is that he would lean forward just a little to pay attention while you talk and he would nod his headonce in a while to show that he understood what you said.
I think being polite is all about showing respect, and Chris is an exemplar in showing respect to people who might otherwise feel dwarfed by his presence. I couldn’t have possibly covered all his polite behaviors but those are the two things that I have noticed.

My meeting with John was an exceptional event. After my acquaintance with him, I felt like I met the most polite man in my life. He truly is a man of gentle nature. He is kind and loves to meet with people and help them in their needs. Though he needs to suffer for his politeness, he is unable to give up his natural habit. This is a nice cue card task for me and I am happy to have the chance of describing him.
I came to know about John in my university. He is the only person who came to my help when I was in a dire need of support. In fact, I lost my class diary and a pen on my way to the university and it was John who helped me with his own pen and shared his notes. Later, I came to know that he had a single pen that he gave to me and he did not write a line on his exercise book for the want of a pen. When other students were busy with them, he came forward for my help selflessly. It was his politeness that made me amazed.
John is polite in every sense. He never makes any rude remarks to anyone while others find it interesting to make statements on other's troublesome situations. Moreover, when someone is in distress, it is John who moves ahead before everyone else. His speeches are well constructed and he always carefully tries not to hurt anyone with his speech. He is unable to say something against any rude remarks to him and remains silent in this situations. He is well-known both for his gentle nature and talent.
I am highly glad to have this person on my friend list. In fact, he is a model for everyone to learn courtesy. He never breaks his promises and makes promise considering his ability. So, I like him very much for his politeness and other qualities.

Well, the most courteous man I know is my uncle, who’s my father’s little brother. We are pretty close. He’s only 10 years older than me and we always hang out together. He’s well educated, I mean, he just got his doctoral degree. He’s been to a bunch of formal occasions, and he’s quite familiar with social etiquette.
Here are some few examples:
Whenever he’s out with someone, he’s always properly dressed. I didn’t get why he would go through so much trouble to “impress” others, but he explained, the whole point was not to impress, but to show respect.
And he’s super modest when talking to others. Besides, he’s a good listener. He never cuts others off. It always feels good when I have a conversation with him.
And he’s extremely polite when interacting with waiters and taxi drivers. He would say thank you many times after he’s been helped.
On top of that, he pays attention to small details in our daily life, like knocking on doors before entering a room, holding the door for others behind him, and holding the elevator when he sees someone rushing to the door.
So you see, he’s really a nice person, and he’s a good influence on me. Spending time with him has helped me become a better person.
Courteous = polite, especially in a way that shows respect此处就是为了替换一下polite,例如:
a courteous young man
The hotel staff are friendly and courteous.
Etiquette = the formal rules of correct or polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession如果感觉记忆有难度的话,说social manners也OK.
A good listener = somebody who you can rely on to listen with attention or sympathy
Cut somebody/something off = to interrupt somebody and stop them from speaking,例如:
My explanation was cut off by loud protests.
On top of that = also, additionally, moreover. (Wiktionary) 不过也有一种用法是强调用于列举一堆不好的事情的,例如The Free Dictionary给出的解释:in addition to the bad thing already mentioned,例如We missed the bus, and on top of that it started raining.
He’s been to a bunch of formal occasions, and he’s quite familiar with social etiquette.
Whenever he’s out with someone, he’s always properly dressed.

Ok, right then, well the person I’d like to talk to you about is a very good friend of mine called Matthew, the reason being that he must be one of the nicest and most polite people I know, which I’ll come to explain in a moment.
But firstly, as for how I know him, well we’ve basically known each other since middle school, because we were in the same class together, and we still see quite a lot of each other. You know, if I feel like going out and doing something, I normally give him a call and see if he’s free to meet up.
And moving on to why I think he’s so polite, well it’s basically because he’s just got really good manners. And just to give you an example, he always says thank you to people, even for the slightest thing. For instance,I’ve noticed that whenever we’re eating at a restaurant, he will thank the waiters and waitresses every time they bring a dish to the table. And another example would be that whenever he gets off a bus, he will always say thank you to the driver, which a lot of people probably think isn’t necessary, but I’m sure the bus drivers really appreciate it, as do the waiters and waitresses, because it’s not all that often they hear people thanking them!
So yeah, that’s basically why I’d say he’s such a polite person, and I’m just trying to think if there’s anything more to add, um……, oh yeah, and one other thing to mention would be that he’s always very complimentary to people. So what I mean is that he tends to always say nice things to people, for example he might make a comment about how nice someone’s looking, or how good their cooking is, which I know might be seen as being a bit um,…what’s the word……um… insincere, but I think he genuinely means what he says, at least most of the time anyway!
And I mean, I can’t remember a single time when he’s ever been rude or unpleasant to anyone, and I also can’t really imagine him being nasty to anyone either.
So yeah, that’s pretty much it then. Thanks for listening.
