Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.
A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.
It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

练习发音的时候强烈建议打开前置摄像头或者在面前放一面镜子，这样可以观察到自己的嘴型和嘴巴张开的程度，因为一些非常接近的音在发音方法上其实就是嘴型张开程度的细微不同，比如bed床，和bad坏，这中间的两个元音很大程度就是取决于嘴型张开程度的不同，如果嘴型张开的程度区别不大就会导致听者没有办法辨别这两个音;再比如咬舌音th，/θ /，thank you, think, thesis，这个音在中文里不存在，需要强迫自己养成新的发音习惯，在发这个咬舌音的时候一定要确保听者可以看到你的舌尖，大家在练习的时候没有对照镜子或者摄像头的时候会觉得自己很努力在区分嘴型张开的程度，但实际上你的嘴没有那么听话，那这样的话其实就是在重复错误的发音方法，时间久了就很难再去纠正了，后面的几期的内容我们也会有针对发音练习的讲解，大家记得及时关注我们RealSkill微信公众号。
听力练习也可以是检测自己发音准确度的，自己在做听力练习的时候，尤其是听写练习的时候，原文里说的是一个词，自己听到的是另一个词，Laural和Yanny那种极端的情况除外，author听成了also，cooperation和corporation听不出来区别;连读在听力中造成困扰的情况也是很普遍的，比如Complete IELTS初级课本Unit 2的听力练习中，has done a ____ course，考生要听的答案是first aid，很多同学没有识别出来t和a的连读，所以有些同学尽管知道写成first day是不对的，但也无奈地填了进去，那这个现象也反映出来一些同学在平时说英语的时候也是没有连读习惯的，练习连读最好的方式我觉得就是听英文歌并且去跟唱，要选择一些节奏正常的，比如Whitney Huston的I will always love you, 这个will和always就会连在一起，唱起来的时候感觉是and I will always love you，而不是像Nicki Minaj的rap，那种跟起来就太困难了。
发音我个人觉得对于中国考生来讲，较难的部分是连读和语调，连读这个习惯大家在学校上课跟读的时候都没有注意，到后期再强迫养成这个习惯其实也有困难;语调的话一些考生认为比较做作和夸张，比如Do you like nature?会被经常读成Do you like nature?(此处的语调不同请听上文音频)非常不自然，而且考试的时候多少有点背诵答案的意思，所以语调会经常被忽略，听起来像一个没有感情的杀手，让考官觉得在背诵答案的的话口语分数也不会高，所以大家在练习的时候也要多注意这两项。
另外上课过程中一些同学对于“口音accent”也有一些疑问，评分标准中，band 8，对于口音的描述是这样的”is easy to understand throughout: L1 accent has minimal effect on intelligibility 表达过程中始终易于听者理解;母语的口音对听者理解的影响极小“也就是在8分以下口音的存在是被允许的，举个例子，带有浓重的北方口音的英语What are you doing?这个并没有造成听力上的理解，只是调子有些奇怪，但是如果口音导致听者理解困那就要花时间去纠正了，比如某些地区的人们分不清楚n和l, Nike Like;再有某些地区的人们h和f分辨起来也有困难，childhood听起来像child food，这个因为地区方言引起的发音不清晰就是发音错误，不再是简单的口音问题，而口音问题的话也相对比较难纠正，因为这毕竟是你从出生到现在一直浸泡的语言环境，所以需要很长的时间来摆脱。
还有一部分同学也会纠结是该说英式英语还是美式英语，雅思是British Council的考试，是不是考官更希望听到英式英语?其实并不是的，雅思口语考官并非全都是英国人，他们来自世界各地，所以没有说英式英语的考生会比其他口音的考生分数更高。当然平时说英语的时候能够选择一种纯正的口音然后尽量往那个口音靠近肯定更好，不管是英英，美音还是澳洲口音都可以，但是不能接受的是对于单词发音的控制能力不够强，以water水为例，你可以发美式的water，也可以发英式的water，但是不能接受的是一个单词，前半部分一个口音，后半部分另一个口音，变成water，这样听起来就很奇怪。
如果大家平时有看美剧或者英语的习惯，那这个习惯可以帮助大家去熟悉不同的口音，可能一些同学会有这样的感觉，连续看了几集英剧就觉得自己发音会有点靠英式英语What’s the matter with you?，追了几集美剧又觉得发音是美音What’s the matter with you?，这说明大家的发音稳定性还不够，很容易被带跑，举一个例子，一些认为自己说英式英语的同学在说’日程表“的时候还是会发成美式的schedule，而不是英式的schedule，所以大家如果有偏好的口音，那么平时在选择听力材料的时候就尽量多选择对应的材料，这样可以帮助大家去尽快熟悉这个口音的发音特征。
发音受母语或者方言的影响较大，而且一些发音问题可能已经石化，纠正需要很长的时间，漫长而煎熬，正确的发音练习方法也很重要，提升发音的方法就是要不断去模仿并且听差别，大家一起加油!
四六级基础如何拿下雅思口语七分
虽然基础不差，但仅局限于大学的四六级，其实这些对于雅思来说根本没有可比性。大家经常看到一些六级分数很高的人考雅思口语依然5.在雅思上我觉得是Nothing is impossible.我考了3次，第一次裸考口语5.5，第二次准备20天6.不谈什么备考方法，在口语上准备和没准备都可能有0.5分的差距。这次准备的时间有1个月，找对了方法，虽然成绩是7分，但我相信自己肯定还有非常多的不足。
1、考雅思普遍的误区
时间误区：经常看到一些人问几月考会简单几月考会难这样的问题。其实雅思官方是不可能将难易程度偏向某场考试的，只能说可能每年会换题的两个月会相对“难”一些。但其实说这几个月“难”无非就是新题目数量的增多。但如果掌握了答题的技巧，不管新题目就题目区别就是回答方法。所以，考试时间应该根据自己的学校申请来选择，不是说哪个月难就避开。换句话说，可能别人觉得容易的对你来说难，你觉得容易的别人觉得难。
地区误区：从考雅思到现在，好似有个普遍的认同就是偏远地区的考官会抓的松一些。我觉得这和运气有关。我一个朋友是北京的，但25号花了大力气去兰州考，结果比上次还低了0.5，唯一的收获就是去吃了个烧饼。我觉得，以前考雅思的人不多的时候，一些偏远考点可能人数少确实会相对松一些。但现在雅思处于全国爆满的状态，不管什么考场人都不少。考官更是“流动作案”，如果你所在的考点有考位，就直接在本地考;如果确实在本地考烦了，换个附近的考点也可以。
连考误区：这个就不多废话了。连着报几场考试真心是精力有限忙不过来，根本没办法静下心来复习。一次次比上次分数低自信心也受打击，考多了最后就放弃了。身边有几个人同学都是这样的，本来还想出国的，连着两场下来都决定放弃去考公务员了。
2、选择复习材料和使用方法
对于大部分要求6-7的烤鸭这两样足够。十天虽然泛滥但确实写得很好，地道的短语和句式有很多。我的具体做法：首先按照预测和十天将话题整理出来，人/物/事/是最基本的整理方法，我全部都是自己用草稿纸写下来，大约30个不到;整理好之后按照这些topic逐个写简介，注意不是写完整答案是简介，每个话题我能想到的点。30个话题写提纲很快就能完成，接下来就是要用准确的表达来将这些提纲串成完整的句子。在地道短语和词汇上可以参考十天，注意是参考短语和单词而不是照着背句子。如果照着背那前面做的什么整理什么框架简介全部白费。在做上面“细活”时不要把每个句子都用笔写下来，一张纸一张纸像写作文似的。把可能记不住的短语备注在topic旁边，其他的东西全部在脑子里想一遍。
以上“准备工作”全部做完之后，接下来才是真正进入主题：说!
上面说的那些写“简介/提纲/框架”可能大家会觉得心里没底，那些长句子不背下来即兴说根本说不出来。我觉得，写作和口语最大的不同点就在句子使用上。写作是考你句式多样性和用词多样性;而口语就是考你的表达，用最简单直接的句子能不能把你的想法说清楚，就这么简单。
练这些话题的时候可以自己对着墙说，也可以用口语APP练。如果一直是自己复习更推荐这些工具，一般它们里面模考的题目都很新，老师出的点评也很准确。我虽然报的是新东方保分班，其实不是冲着那0.5分去的，看好的是有老师的辅导。
PART2部分一定要练到非常熟悉，因为这部分经常变着法子问，就像我2.25PART2考到的something useful you were taught这个题貌似就是把之前的a person who taught you a useful skill变了一下。其实从很多老师的预测里也可以看出，雅思口语考的就是话题的熟悉程度，不是考你知道多少单词你经历多丰富。一个从来想都没想过的话题放在面前，就算一个英文再厉害的人都不知道从何说起。
在句子构思上，我不太明白很多大牛说的“英式思维”。作为一个地道的中国考生，一时半会把思维都改变了不现实，只能说尽可能的用地道的表达去代替过于chinglish的想法。这个完全可以在语法上改变，建议大家可以去报名参加一些雅思口语课程。

一、“硬碰硬”，真金不怕火炼
对于备考时间较长(半年或以上)的考生，建议大家本着务实求真的精神，彻彻底底将口语基础打牢。切记，口语和写作都是真正揭晓实力的两门，绝不能依仗技巧取胜。有经验的考官不会完全照读考题，而是会为你“量身定做”(Tailor-made)顺势出题，所以如果完全是所谓的技巧搭起来的空中楼阁的话，注定会不攻自破。因此，一定要充分利用这段较长的备考期，多开口，勤练习，进行实战模拟，让自己的口语有质的提高。
二、由难到易，化繁为简
一定的实力基础固然必不可少，但雅思口语成绩的提高也不是完全没有捷径可走。聪明的考生能做到扬长避短，迎合评分要求回答，在短短的十来分钟内包装自己的语言，有更好的发挥。下面将介绍三种化繁为简的方法，供大家参考。
第一招：减少描述，增加议论
纵览各类卡片题，发现一个共同的关键词，即Describe, 如Describe a teacher who has greatly influenced you(人物题)，Describe an object you use everyday(物品题)，Describe a shop you often go to(地点题)，Describe a family event(事件题)。很多考生会集中精力去思考如何Describe，所以在人物题中会试着用很多语言去描述外貌特征，如大大的眼睛，长长的睫毛，粉粉的脸颊，厚厚的嘴唇。且不论该考生是否都能将这些中文描述对应的恰当英文找到，除非是口语基础相当不错的考生，不然挑这些内容去讲无疑是搬起石头砸自己的脚。人物题还算是比较容易描述的了，那碰到物品题描述一个家用电器怎么办，如何去Describe?以a washing machine为例，我们能想到的内容可能是颜色，Its color is white. 大小，It’s one meter high. 别的似乎没什么可讲的了。这个时候就可以增加议论或评价。对于颜色，可以添加的内容是The reason why I chose this color is that it matches well with my bathroom and besides, white has always been my favorite color. It’s clean. You know. 而对于大小，也可评价一番It is actually the smallest size at that time. I put it in the corner, and it takes only a little space.
由此可见，评价性的语言通常比描述更为具体，可以看做是对前一句的补充说明或者是例证拓展。这种对于每一点信息都要给出议论的习惯一定要养成，可以使我们的说话内容顿时翻倍。
第二招：变抽象为具体
很多考生觉得雅思口语话题难，就是因为没话说，特别是看似较为抽象的话题，如Describe a success。总觉得success肯定是较为光鲜的事迹，对照自己似乎找不到素材。其实如果把success具体化，看作是successfully did sth，构思就会容易许多。可以讲成功地网上交友、购物，与网络话题结合，可以讲成功地交到一个知心益友，与朋友话题相结合。又如part 3中的一些抽象问题，如How has technology changed people’s life? 如果单单从较高层面总的去概括科技如何改变生活会觉得语言内容上频频受限，而换个角度，如果把change具体化，举自己的家庭为例，讲起来就顺口多了。Well, technology did change our life a lot. 第三招：扭转乾坤，话题巧转移

一、表述长答案的能力。
我们的答案要长，就要在答案里包括丰富的信息。简单举例，考官问“Are you working or studying?”好印象的回答必定长于“I'm studying/working。”。长答案不仅显出咱们的语言能力，也表达出我们愿意提供信息的积极态度，同时更彰显出我们的自信——只有英语好才能用英语“夸夸其谈”不是?所以，回答问题一定要长。

二、回答的轻松自如程度。
我们的回答不仅内容要长，还要方式轻松。最好答案如涓涓流水般汩汩涌出，自然而流畅。这怎么体现呢?通过第三条，有限停顿和第四条，语速适中来表达。有些烤鸭们可能会奇怪，怎么还“有限停顿”呢，应该没有停顿才对吧?考虑一下我们真实生活中的状况，只要我们是在自然说话就必然会有停顿，因为我们脑袋里的思考和嘴巴上讲述基本是同时进行的，当我们脑袋跟不上嘴巴的时候，我们就会有停顿，非常自然的一种状况。由此可以推出，假如一个人长篇大论了很久都没有一个停顿，实在是相当不自然的一件事。所有不自然的事都会让考官产生疑惑，考官的所有疑惑都会影响我们的分数，所以请允许自己停顿，只是我们要关注停顿的数量和方式。
三、停顿的数量和方式。
数量必须有限。坊间曾有一个说法流传，说明显的长停顿超过5个的话，其它方面再好，最高也只能拿到6分。由于是坊间流传，依据和真实性自然无法考证，但还好有雅思最基本的一条原则可以参考——只要不影响交流。所以，这里和大家分享一条我和我的学生一直介绍的方法，以供参考。将自己的答案录下来，或者讲给朋友同学同伴听，看看停顿有没有明显stand out，听完之后回想一下刚刚听到的答案中“呃呃哎哎”的停顿或是“悄无声息”的沉默是不是印象最深的，如果是的话，说明咱们的停顿将会严重拉低分数，否则的话，数量还不成问题。 方式必须自然。但这“自然”是让考官听起来舒服的自然，而非我们说起来的自然。能让考官耳朵觉得自然的停顿不会引起考官耳朵的不快，自然也就不会导致考官提笔记下停顿的出没，也就减少了它们影响我们分数的可能。因此，即使咱们实在无法减少停顿，我们也可以通过“自然停顿”的方式有效地控制停顿的影响力。一些常见的自然停顿：well, so, you know, it's like.。.呵呵，不得不指出的是，这些自然停顿确实需要大量练习才能真正练到自然的哦!

Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.
A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.
It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

We carpool more often than not and it takes us roughly 15 minutes to get to the local recreation center where it provides the locals with a variety of facilities for training purpose such as gym class, stadium, swimming pool, tennis court and so on, which is extremely convenient for those who practice more than one activity. The only thing better then swimming itself is swimming with your besties, which is one of hundreds of things I love about my weekly ritual. Hardly do we have time to meet each other during week days as we’re all up to our neck at work and totally stressed out. Therefore, having such a healthy way to catch up with my friends and recharge battery after an exhausting week never sounds better. Just like any other sports, swimming helps maintain your health, keep you fit as well as build your endurance. However, unlike others, it’s a very relaxing and peaceful form of exercise, you don’t even sweat for hours – a supreme advantage.
