很多人在记忆单词上,普遍存在以下三个问题:一是缺少学习和记忆词汇所需的基础条件;二是对有关大脑记忆机制的科学知识相对匮乏;三是拘泥于传统的语法学习,而英语的实际应用太少。

针对以上这三点问题,找到一个好的办法解决,那么你的词汇量将会突飞猛进!

首先毫无疑问,英语单词有其自身的规律并早已成系统。因此,了解一些英语词汇的内在规律将大大提高人们对英语词汇的领悟与整理归纳的能力。目前,大多数人在学习英语单词时只学这几点:拼写、发音、中文对应词以及记词性。然而,要掌握一个词,只记这几点是远远不够的。至少还要掌握以下词汇学知识:

一、要有“词群”的概念

我们在学习一个单词时要知道它是否有其它同家族成员。比如学习“benefit”一词时,应同时学习“beneficial, beneficially”等同根词。

二、要有“构词“的概念

英语中有五分之四的词汇来源于拉丁语。拉丁词汇基本上都是由词根词缀构成。当你掌握了英语中个左右的基础词汇后,应该系统地学习拉丁词的构词知识。掌握构词知识可以使你的记词效率提升数十倍,词汇量可在很短的时间之内大幅增长。

三、要有“语义分析”知识

多义词较难学,而英语最常用的4000个高频词基本上都是多义词,平均每个词都有两到三个意思。利用语义分析知识可以将多义词化繁为简。比如单词“commit”,在英汉大词典中有六个义项:①做、犯;②托付、交给;③投入(兵力);④ 拨款给;⑤ 使保证,使表态;⑥ 监禁,判刑。如果单靠死记硬背,相信没几个人能记住这么多意思。但是通过语义分析,我们会知道“commit“的原始意思有两个,“做(坏事)”与“送”。通过“做”、“送” 做中介词,便可用逻辑将各个意思联系在一起了。“commit theft”意为偷窃,‘commit suicide’意为“自杀(天主教认为自杀触犯教义,是做坏事)”;“送钱给……”为“拨款”的意思,“送军队到某某地”为“投入兵力”的意思,“将自己送给一个许诺”即可理解为“保证”,“将某人送到监狱”为“监禁、判刑”的意思。概括起来,记“commit”时,你只须记它的原始意思(put, send)与使用它的语境,即当我们谈论罪行、钱、军队、及作承诺等主题时会用到这个词。

四、要有“大脑记忆机制”的科学知识

要掌握英语词汇技能,除了要具备以上词汇学的基础知识外,还应学一点包括短期记忆、长期记忆、遗忘规律理论在内的认知心理学的相关知识,旨在了解大脑处理信息的固有模式、记忆机制,以便找到科学的学习、记忆方法,从此告别死记硬背。例如:我们可以根据大脑的意外规律按照1-2-5-10-21的规律进行学习和复习,一般一个单词记五遍就差不多不会忘记了。

综合上述看来,对于在非母语环境下学英语的人来说,应该采用最有效的记忆方法先集中学习几千个高频词汇及构词知识,然后再通过大量阅读来巩固已学过的词汇并逐步积累低频词,才是学习英语词汇的好方法。需要注意的是,认识单词和会用单词是两码事。词汇量达到一定水平后,在对话、写作中使用这些单词的能力对英语水平的影响更大!所以找人交流学习很重要!

第一阶段:GRE词汇初记

GRE要求词汇量背诵第一阶段是我们打下词汇基础的过程。

第二阶段:GRE词汇巩固

GRE词汇背诵第二阶段可以总结为词汇巩固,需要把第一阶段的成果复习,加深印象。

第三阶段:反复地复习和巩固

GRE词汇背诵之所以耗费时间就是因为没有人可以只用一两遍就可以将数万BT单词烂熟于心,而是需要反复地复习和巩固。

一定要每次都大量地背。因为自己不比别人聪明,所以背完单词,别人忘掉五分之一,自己决不会比别人忘得少。然而,别人每天背十个单词,自己却可以背一百个,忘掉五分之一,gre词汇技巧,gre考试有什么用还剩八十个,是别人最聪明状态下的十倍。每天一百个是最低限。其实背到后来您会发现这个要求并不高,一个月后,您可能自然而然地就背到三百或者五百。

这一百个要分成四组来背,上午三十,中午十个,下午三十,晚上三十。第二天早晨复习以前没背下来的词。背的时候,要一目十词(注意,是十个而不是更多或更少),不要认认真真背,因为没有认认真真的时间。一边看一边读每个词的读音,默读也成。看完后回忆一遍,回忆不起来的再看。这次背的目的在于留下个大概印象,下次看见能知道这个词,所以背到大部分都能回忆得起来就成了,把剩下的词单独抄出来。

1. 背诵词汇的词根、词缀

背出了词根词缀,几乎就拿下了大部分的单词。此处的拿下不是指熟练掌握,而是指了解词性,能够帮助排除句子填空的选项。

2.记住英文释义

中文意思只是一个拐杖,有时还有欺骗性,记住单词大概的英文解释和同义词才是最重要的。不过对于一些难记的单词,先记住它们的词性和褒贬。就是你见到这个单词就要形成一种态度或者说感觉,比如看到“effervesce”里面那一堆嘶嘶嘶冒气泡似的就要生成一种轻盈高兴的感觉,知道它是个好词儿,看到effluvium你看到那一堆u啊v啊就会产生一种不适感很恶心。

3.分类记忆法

很多时候,孤立地记一个事物,反而不如同时记忆多个同类效果来得好。所以把意义相近的词放在一起记,gre词汇技巧,gre考试有什么用可以大大提高效率,更对日后实战时的类比题有着莫大的帮助。分类可有两种,一种是把同义词归纳在一起,作利用电子辞典来做最为方便。
