Describe a recent change of you近期改变

You should say:

? what the change was

? when and where this change happened what caused this change

? what the result of this change was

? and explain how you felt about this change when it happened.

Three moths ago, I moved to a new neighborhood with my parents since my father had been transferred to a sub-company and the new neighborhood is near to his new working place.

I felt bitter-sweet when we decided to move. I was upset because I had to live far away from some of my good friends and the surroundings I am familiar with. At the same time, I felt a little excited about the new life because it was the first time for us to move to a new apartment since I grew up. But as soon as I visited the new apartment, I was convinced that we had made up a good decision.

Now 1 am absolutely satisfied with the new surroundings as well as our new apartment The new neighborhood is elaborately designed with fantastic greening. Lots of trees, flowers are planted there and there are several lawns besides a manmade stream. Our apartment is also well furnished. Whafs more, it is much more spacious than the old one. I can enjoy the study of my own and we have two bathrooms which make our lives more convenient. Last, living in the new neighborhood, we can enjoy more convenient public transportation.

In a word, I think we’ve made a wise choice, and the change is beneficial to both my study and my life.

Changes are an integral part of our life. Today, I'm going to talk about a recent change that I brought about in my life.

I am pursuing a 4-year diploma in hotel management. It's a full-time course which includes a lot of lectures and practical work. Spending long hours in college, part-time work, and project work in the library, not to mention other responsibilities – all of them started taking their toll on me. I became stressed, sleep deprived and cranky. I was generally frustrated, short-tempered and unhappy.

My friends posed an intervention and told me they were worried for me, this statement really awakened me. I thought I could handle the stress but seeing them suffer the side effects of my workaholism, I decided to do something about it.

I joined yoga classes in the morning. Initially, I felt that this might be a waste of time but I was proven wrong when my classmates said I looked happier and refreshed. I myself noticed a change in my aura and productivity.

This change redefined my outlook on things, I noticed that little things do in fact matter. In today's fast-paced world, we have forgotten the true essence of life. We should keep on making small experimentalchanges in our life. They give it a splash of colour. All in all, this change had a positive impact on me and my loved ones. I will definitely continue to do yoga no matter where I go.

Describe an important change that happened to your life recently

You should say:

What the change is;

When it happened;

How it happened;

and explain why it was a important change.

Speaking of the great change that happened to my life recently, it should be getting up early. I used to be a senior nightbird. I always know “early to bed, early to rise” is good for my health but I always feel helpless to change it. When time sneaked into the deep night, I didn’t feel like sleeping at all. I was energetic to do all things except reading or studying. More precisely, I think I looked like a phonbie and just slid and scratched my smart phone to kill time, lying in bed. One day in last month, I suddenly realized that my anenergia during the day, my pimples and my bad time management to all tasks were caused by staying up late. Then I forced myself to change it. After that, I forced myself to go to sleep before 11:00 p.m. and get up early at 6:00 a.m. One month later, I felt much better about my life. I enjoyed quality sleep and didn’t suffer insomnia any more. I became much patient in my life and even more efficient at work.

I deem getting up early as an important change since I have had enough for my previously disordered life. Getting up early lay a basis for my lifestyle, which do great benefits to my health and my work. What’s more, I never imagine that “early to bed, early to rise” could rebuild my confidence and passion towards my routine life that once was regarded as a super boring one. I have more time to do my favorite things in the morning, reading, playing guitar and painting. I even planned to practice my oral English in the morning. I exploited my time at my best to make it counts rather than killing time by playing with my iPhone. Therefore I will keep this habit.

You should say:

what it was

when caused it

what do you do for the change

and explain how do you feel about it

I would like to talk about the time I first moved to Changsha for college. It’s one of the major changes in my life till now I have to say.

Firstly, I was born in the north of China. We have drier winter, while Changsha, which is a southern city is probably the most humid city in the world. The constant rain is killing me. And the food in Changsha is too spicy and salty for me. I am not used to having too many spices and chili in the food. Also, I can’t really understand the local language.

Besides, college study is totally different from high school study, including in study methods and subjects. For example, you don’t have anyone to supervise you or motivate you on your own things. You can only rely on yourself.

Another significant change for me is the living environment. I used to live with my parents and have my own room, while in college, I have to live with 5 other girls in a small dormitory. We even don’t have a private bathroom. It’s utterly inconvenient when you have to share the bathroom with so many other people, like more than 70 people.

To conclude, I am still adapting myself to the new environment and the new life. Like people always say, we’ll have to embrace the change.

An incident which changed your life

You should say:

What happened?

Who was involved in it?

How did it change your life?

It was about 3 years ago when I was going to my friend’s house I was driving the car really fast. Speed always thrilled me and I always felt good by driving the car very fast so I was driving the car fast when a car passed me. It was so faster than me and I reckon it would be travelling at a speed of 200km/hr. First I thought me going at the same speed but then I stopped. After about 30 seconds I saw that the car had hit the truck and the driver of the fast car was dead.

I was not directly involved in the accident, but it had an overwhelming effect on my life. It changed everything. I never took life seriously and I never considered driving to be hazardous activity, but the killing of the person had a devastating effect on my life. I realized that the thing which I considered to be fun could even take my life away and could destroy others too.

I made a strong determination that day that I would end this kind of behavior and try to avoid these things. I thought that doing this stuff could I also take another person’s life which for which I would have never been able to forgive myself.

Now when I drive the car I drive the car at a low slow speed, and even if I have to reach to a place urgently I decide to drive slowly because it is better to reach late than never.

Topic:

Describe a positive change you made .

You should say:

What the change was

When you made the change

and explain the influence of the change

Tips:

What the change was:

Sample answer:

The positive change that I would like to talk about is ‘I started playing outdoor games instead of playing computer games’. After I got my first personal computer when I was only 9 years old or so, I started learning many things. Besides that I started playing the computer games. As computer games are addictive I found that I was playing the games whenever I had spare times. This addiction barred me from playing outdoor games like cricket, football etc.

I found myself very much attracted to the computer games and I preferred to play the games at home instead of going to open spaces or fields to participate in outdoor games that involve physical exercises. Not that computer games are all so bad, but playing them all the time someone has got is not a good thing especially for kids. I found that I was spending more times at home than being outside. After my parents noticed that, they discussed with me about that and explained me the importance of outdoor activities. They gave me strict restriction that I would only be able to play computer games for an hour daily and in the evening I’d have to go outside to play with my friends.

This was obviously a very positive change for me. I’m not against computer games but I feel that if there are more important things to do, then we should not spend time on computer games only.

This change affected me very positively. I became a good cricket player later on, I started maintaining my times more prudently and I am sure this change has affected me positively in terms of physical and mental health.

Related cue cards:

1.Describe a change you would like to have in you.

2.Describe something you want to do in the future.

3.Describe a change you would like to have in you.

4.Talk about something you started doing lately.

“When I was a child…”

“…I often play outside with my friends.”

“I am a college student. Every day I will have many classes.”

“If I had the chance, I would prefer to visit the beach.”

“because in my hometown there have many mountain.”

tip 1

Practice wherever you can and whenever you can. Any practice is good, whether you speak to someone who is a native English speaker or not.

tip 2

It's important to build your confidence. If possible, use simple English sentence structure that you know is correct, so that you can concentrate on getting your message across.

tip 3

Try to experiment with the English you know. Use words and phrases you know in new situations. Native English speakers are more likely to correct you if you use the wrong word than if you use the wrong grammar. Experimenting with vocabulary is a really good way of getting feedback.

tip 4

Try to respond to what people say to you. You can often get clues to what people think by looking at their body language. Respond to them in a natural way.

tip 5

Try not to translate from or into your own language. This takes too much time and will make you more hesitant.

tip 6

If you forget a word, do what native English speakers do all the time, and say things that “fill” the conversation. This is better than being completely silent. Try using um or er, if you forget the word.

This is greek to me. Whenever I was asked to talk about ... the first thing that has come to my mind is .... um... er...

tip 7

Don't speak too fast. It's important to use a natural rhythm when speaking English. But if you speak too fast, it will be difficult for people to understand you.

tip 8

Try to relax when you speak. When you speak English at anormal speed, you will discover that most of the pronunciation skills, such as linking between words, will happen automatically.
