Dear xx,

When in life can you truly say you enjoy what you do? Far too many timesyou hear people talking of ‘enduring’ their work, or ‘getting by’ in life, fartoo seldom do we actually hear of people savouring it, being enthused by it,enjoying it! This is what divides a good student from a passing student, actually enjoying what they do, and this is my aim not just for my studies butfor my working life as well, to find fulfilment in and actual relish my work –this may seem like a common aspiration, but so few ever achieve it!

Both of my parents work and have always worked in the care industry, theyposses very select and specialised characteristics that allow them to be thebest at their jobs that they can be, so from an early age I have been seeped inan environment of complex psychology about mental ability, counselling andstigma, Their work and ways of thinking being imprinted into my socialisationfrom childhood. Please however don’t think for one moment that because of that Isee myself bound to a life of psychology, that I was raised in a shelteredenvironment manufactured into a psychology protégé by my parents. This for meIs, as much as it biologically can be, an individual choice. Based on my beliefsand experiences, judged by what I have been through in my life and whatInterests me.

People are what interest me, what I cannot understand is when you find apsychology student that cannot stand people! For this reason I love doing groupwork, I love interacting with other people and I love completing tasks withthem, we were made to work in a pack, that is why we are social animals, weshould love being around other humans! One thing that is paramount isconfidence, not just the confidence to stand up in front of a room or hall ofpeople and give a presentation but the confidence in your own work and your ownability to do well, self belief.

I would put such things here as: ‘hard working and vigilant’ but I believethat a passion and an enjoyment of your subject surmounts these things, andalmost makes it difficult to not be hard working and take a further interest inthe area you are looking at. Why sell yourself and each individual aspect of whoyou are if you can get across your natural enthusiasm and passion/drive forsomething which encompasses all those things and says so much about you as aperson than a check list of your individual skills and strengths.

The whole reason why I chose to study this course, the whole reason whywere even here and the interrelationship between psychology and philosophy isanother thing that interest me greatly - I am intrigued by peoples beliefs, their morals and the rationale behind the things they do, that is one of themain reasons why I chose this course and this path in my life, to investigatewhat makes people different and I believe so far that what separates (and binds)people most is their philosophy. And so a look into the relationship between thescience of psychology and philosophy is a deep passion of mine.

I however do not take the scientific side of psychology lightly at all, andfor the past year have been learning the ins and outs of the SPSS program andjust how important scientific enquiry, scientific reflection on your findingsand a scientific approach from the beginning are to the subject of psychology asa whole. I feel that I will be not only well versed but also ready to take onall aspects of psychology across the duration of the course and carry that onafter graduation also.

Being passionate, self motivated and confident within yourself is somethingthat I believe to be one of the most important things not just for a student toposses but also for anyone to posses in life to get far and succeed andultimately, enjoy what they do.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in today’s world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering.

I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practical experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long ‘Into Engineering’ seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. I also attended a Headstart course at Newcastle University, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the main activities was to design, manufacture and test a small crane. I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work. This year a fellow student and I were awarded £500 by the European Scholarship Prize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the city’s culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gained an insight into the government’s proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I also enjoy participating in a range of sports and have represented the school at football and cricket, which has further enhanced my team working skills. In my spare time I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In September I completed a 4-day expedition in the Lake District, which tested my endurance but gave me a great sense of achievement. As part of the award I have been helping at the local youth café once a week, which I am really enjoying as it gives me the chance to meet new people. I also enjoy reading, particularly books on physics and Russian history. I am really interested in computers and I am currently trying to configure a Linux based file and print server for my home network.

For admission to a university in England you have to fill in a form from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). They for a very reasonable fee provide all applicants to unversities and colleges in the UK with a way to apply to up to 6 universities (or multiple courses at, say 3 universities). Part of the form (apart from all the obvious details such as name and address), is half a page where you are asked to write about yourself, your interests and so on. Inevitably you have to make it sound as good as possible, as you're trying to sell yourself to the universities you're applying to...I applied to the universities of Aston, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Loughborough. All for an MEng (Master of Engineering degree) in Chemical Engineering, except for Bristol where I went for an MEng in Computer Science, so this is tailored towards those courses. Anyway... Here it is. I don't guarantee that you won't get bored! ;-). (NB this was written in the summer of , and is therefore not too current!).Reasons for Course Choice

Since beginning secondary school, I've been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork I've read around these two subjects. Because I am also very keen on Mathematics and Physics, I want to pursue a degree course that combines all or most of these. Both of my parents are Science/Engineering graduates and they have taught me some of the qualities needed for a degree course in this field. This has encouraged me to find out about the opportunities available. Aims

I have applied to several firms for sponsorship while at university and during a gap year, with the intention of getting Engineering-related work experience. This would give me valuable experience for the course at university. I hope to obtain a Master of Engineering degree and become employed in research and development in the oil or food industry. Eventually, I would like to do postgraduate study, and perhaps even teach Chemistry/Engineering. Interests

I play basketball, tennis, volleyball, and I like kayaking. By far my biggest sports interest, however, is orienteering. I've won several trophies for Andalusian and league championships, and I've helped to organise regional orienteering events. I have also designed the database system for my club. My greatest interest outside school is computing. I have done a large amount of web design. I help maintain the computer systems at my father's workplace; and I also do some part time work teaching people on a one-to-one basis how to use their computers. I like writing manuals or “notes” on things related to computers, and have published an article on web design in a small US computer magazine. I have written papers on the use of data-logging and other equipment for my school's science department. This year, I was responsible for laying out my school's entire yearbook using DTP software. Recently, I was employed developing a web site and training staff for an organisation in London. When I have time I play the keyboard, and also do some sound engineering: I used to operate the mixing desk at my local church, as well as help at my parents' workplace, which is a professional recording studio. I enjoy teaching and have given weekly tuition in Maths and English. General Points

I've lived in Spain for 14 years and am fluent in Spanish. In addition, my parents work with North Africans, Middle Easterners, Americans, Spaniards, Britons, and people of other nationalities. I have gained valuable experience growing up with many different cultures around me, and as a result appreciate the difficulties of cross-cultural communication. I have been part of several “King's Kids”, teams which perform music and dance all over Spain. This entailed travelling away from home for 3 weeks at a time, and having to work with around 60 other people. I think that this has made me a fairly rounded person, and I therefore feel confident about “fitting in” with people from any culture.

Yours sincerely,

It regrettably turned out that the design of the mail hall was seriously flawed, which drew intense media attention nationwide. The structure sank two meters after completion. As experts continue to help the court determine who is responsible, I myself have been awed by this drama and kept researching it ever since it became known.

My tentative explanation, submitted to take into account the underground water’s power of buoyancy, even though the structure base was put below the waterbed. The structure floated until enough load was mounted. The proper construction method therefore should have involved artificial precipitation until the completion of structure.

Upon graduation in , I joined the Beijing Biggest Co., one of the four largest construction companies in China, and immediately took on management duties as an assistant manger at the construction site. I have supervised steel engineering, concrete engineering and platform engineering for there twenty-three story buildings in the Beijing DD residential area, a total of 60,000 square meters in apartments. In this capacity, I was compelled to learn management skills which had never been taught in the classroom. Although construction management is not what I foresee to be a lifetime pursuit, I executed my duty meticulously and creatively. I became the first construction site manager in the company to conduct experiments comparing box-weir maintenance and the traditional manual watering method. By using box-weir method, weak concrete and cracks in the concrete were eliminated. Through these important, albeit small, steps of improvement, I have derived immense satisfaction.

My vigorous academic training and exposure to intricate design problems and complex construction management issues has stood me in good stead professionally compared to my peers. My plan to further my career through advanced studies stems from self-confidence in my academic calibre and also a strong desire to solve design and construction problems encountered at work. I have researched your program based on the materials I have available to me and decided that advanced studies under your seasoned guidance will be a shortcut for me to reach my goal. I request that you give my application for admission and financial support favourable consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

I am planning to pursue graduate studies towards a Ph.D. degree at your school of engineering starting from the fall of .

My interest in the building structure can be traced back to my success in high school years, when I excelled my fellow classmates in physics and geometry. This not only fired off my interest in structural design but also helped to lay solid groundwork for my undergraduate studies in civil engineering, which heavily involved mechanics in physics and solid geometry.

With excellent scores in the compulsory national university entrance examination, I won acceptance in 1991 into the Beijing Polytech University, one of China’s top 10 engineering schools, particularly well-known for its structural engineering. For five years at this university, I received strict and thorough training in areas such as building structures, building materials. Soil mechanics and foundation, concrete and masonry structures, construction, steel structure and earthquake resistant structure. I also took every opportunity to participate in co-po work and projects commissioned by construction and design companies.

Opportunities abound for civil engineers and civil engineering students in China, which now houses the world’s fastest growing major economy. At every year’s job fair held on the campus of the Polytech University, more than 200 positions compete for 60-odd graduating students. Under such circumstances, undergraduate students in their fifth year are also in high demand for internship at various construction companies and design institutes. Virtually every student gets a full workload immediately upon starting the internship and assumes considerable responsibilities soon afterwards.

I became the luckiest among the lucky by winning a rare opportunity for any civil engineer: to participate in the design of the Beijing Western Railway Station, the largest urban structure in China up to date. This happened while I interned, along with five other schoolmates, at the Beijing Architectural Institute. This institute has designed virtually all the modern landmark buildings in China, including the famous Great Hall of the People and the Museum of Revolutionary History on the Tiananmen Square, the Beijing Railway Station and the Asian Games Village. It was on the strength of my academic merits that I got to enjoy these opportunities.

The Western station project in Beijing consisted of the mail hall (70,000 square meters), south wing building group (40,000 square meters) and north wing building group (35,000 square meters). My task was to assist in the design of a shopping centre in the south wing which had 16,000 square meters. I independently accomplished a quarter of the design for the whole building, mainly responsible for the foundation design, calculation and drawing of steel distribution of beam, floor, columns and concrete piles. I cherished this opportunity to apply the knowledge I had learned in the classroom to the real world problems and I worked with my utmost dedication.

I, however, soon found out that, even in this monumental project, design techniques applied in many cases left much to be desired. When treating the wind load, the earthquake force and the effect of frozen soil, historical data and intelligent estimates were used in place of accurate measuring. This phenomenon made me determined to improve my knowledge and skills in a graduate program that can teach sophisticated know-how, such as yours.

When asked why I like Mathematical Finance, I realized that it is all down to my personality. Being a composed, explicit person, I enjoy the challenge of questions with unequivocal answers. My character’s orderly side draws me enthusiastically towards neat solutions; my creativity gives rise to my acceptance of new ideas and my positive mind results in my wish to succeed. All questions have definite answers; we just need to construct ways of reaching them.

Now, I would like to pursue my higher studies for the want of further knowledge in the mathematical finance. Due to the advanced technology and higher standard of education at USA, I would like to apply for [学位名称] Degree in your prestigious University as I would like to be a big-man in the field of Mathematical Finance. I am quite confident of doing exceptionally well in my further studies. I believe that [申请课程] program in申请领域will provide me with a strong background for rapid professional advancement in Department of系名称in 大学名称University which attracts me with its famous faculty resources, advanced research areas, integrity in education and a free academic atmosphere.

I believe studying in 大学名称University will prepare me for a more extensive knowledge background, more advanced professional method and more reasonable ways of carrying out research in my future career Mathematics opened my mind to several new areas of algebra, sequences and series, and functions while Mathematical Finance broadened my horizon in fields of financial analysis, entrepreneur finance and micro-economics and others.

I keenly welcomed the new techniques and enjoyed all aspects of the course. In addition to retaining a strong interest in computers, my fascination for mathematical finance has grown. My decision to apply for the Mathematical Finance was gradually confirmed with the thirst grew to know more about the forces that could have such a significant impact of people’s day-to-day economic lives.

The reason why I am interested in Mathematic Finance also came from one of my uncle’s failure experience in option buying. It is often said that “experience is the best teacher”, but my uncle is a rookie who neglected the exercise issue of option, so he is out of money due to his missing in exercise schedule. My uncle is type of person who plays on a universal to “get something for nothing” and to “get rich quick“. From that, I came to realize that a successful trader will always seek to improve the risk-reward characteristics of his position by looking for profit opportunities with the greatest possible margin for error. Since then I began to take notice of the trend in the development of financial products, in fact, the birth of option can be dated back to 1973 while option in this IT era has been a hot focus that attracted attentions.

During college, I read a lot of books related to the topics, especially in risks, I also attended some classes; these include Entrepreneur Financing, Exchange Basics and Foreign Exchange Trading. In courses of Entrepreneur Financing, I conducted a presentation upon HONEST TEA, a venture investing company, and I discussed in detail with my teammates about the risk and influence brought by RMB Exchange rate revaluation; in these discussion and analysis, I put what I learned in courses, including Foreign Exchange Fundamentals and Exchange Trading, to practice, and exerted an efficient effect. I am glad to say that other students in my team all major in Finance or MBA, in contact with them, I learned that the risk issue, especially risk avoidance has been a course that attracted my intense attention. The entire area of risk management is an extensive subject. I looked at over dozens of books and seminar notebooks. I learned the risk avoidance approaches and analytical procedures in the field of Mathematical Finance. As for me, the relationship between risk and return seems straight forward. In a process of case analyzing, I discovered that the risk and return move in the same direction, in other words, if one accept a higher risk, it is possible to achieve higher returns. It is amazing that high-risk investments invariably promise a high return.

I have also obtained an understanding of what it is like to be amongst a large group of people through working at CAS (China Academy of Science) Risk Financial Risk Management Lab. I particularly benefited from my financial analysis experiences at Wuliangye Group, Tsingdao Brewery and GreatWall Wine as they introduced me to many fields, such as Financial Analysis and Forecasting, Risk Avoidance, Trading, accountancy and exchange, and taught me to appreciate the evident need for teamwork.

In [时间] , I came to Wei Xianhua, the director of Reuters-Financial Risk Management Lab, at CAS, for the possible of attending his program of Financial Risk Management and Practice course, and then he agreed, and let me to assist him on analysis upon the IPO process of New Oriental Education & Technology Group Inc, from prospectus analysis to its Roadshow. Prior to the analysis, Mr. Wei introduced me a book entitled (Guide to the IPO Value Journey by The Ernst & Young). I used the calculation approaches in this book to conduct a P/E analysis (Price-Earning Ratio analysis) for New Oriental by dividing the company’s stock price by the company’s earning per share, or “EPS”, through calculation, it gives me an indication of how many times the stock buyers are paying for the company’s stock verse the company’s earning. Through analysis and calculation processes, I discovered that a company with a high (or large) P/E ratio is expensive verse a company with a low P/E ratio, since with a high P/E ration a buyer paying a larger multiple verse a company’s earnings.

In my opinion, as a would-be undergraduate who want to pursue education in the field of mathematical finance, it is very important to possess a solid knowledge of advanced mathematics, especially in normal differential eguation and matrix algebra. In college, I learned what is reinforcement learning algorithm and its application, I discovered that one of strength with Q-learning is that it is able to compare the expected utility of the available actions without requiring a model of environment. During the process, I also contacted with Stochastic Process, Monte Carlo method and NN (Neural Network), all of which benefit me not only in solving practical mathematical problems but also in opening my mind. Through my hardworking, I got excellent 91 points in Optimal Control Theory in end of semester.

A bachelor degree in Computer Science (Signal and Information Processing) has given me many transferable skills needed in Mathematical Finance. Worthy of notice is that Research on Reinforcement Learning Methods and Neural Network Algorithm, through which I contacted with much professional knowledge including Random Processes, Monte Carlo Method, and acquired a solid knowledge in the field Neutral Network. I used rreinforcement learning algorithms to find an approach for maximizing cumulative reward over the course of the problem. I am currently investigating a number of regions that appeal to me, which include For now, I intend to approach the future positively and have many exciting thoughts. I hope to encounter new opportunities, and rise to the challenge of [申请课程名称] program in your university!

Looking back on my academic career, it definitely taught me how to think for myself and make my own decisions. Success is not simply a matter of luck, I feel that my passion for mathematical finance makes me worthy of a place in your esteemed program, and I look forward to getting involved in both academic and social aspects of your university life.

Yours sincerely,

1、家庭有一定的经济的基础支撑;

2、拥有一个较好的外语基础。譬如雅思、托福、日语等,语言根据选择出国目的地的不同以及选择大学的不同而有不同的要求;

3、拥有一份较好的自理能力。到了国外,可能举目无亲,能最快地适应当地的生活和学习环境,能最快地在当地找到有好的伙伴,这些是一个成功留学的基础;

Dear _,

When I was doing internship at the renowned _ Cosmetics Co. Ltd, I was deeply impressed by the motto from _, the founder of the company-”Believe in Miracle and Miracle will Indeed Happen.“ At one point during my undergraduate education I was very frustrated because I found that, due to the lack of effective methodology of numerical analysis, the teaching and the research of economics in China lags far behind the international standard as represented by the developed countries of the West. As a result, even though I am one of the top students from the _ University of Finance and Economics, I find it difficult for me to really enter the true realm of economics study. Instead of dealing a heavy blow on me, this discovery motivated me to maximize my efforts in the study of mathematics and to apply for an advanced degree program in statistics at your well-respected university after having completed my undergraduate program. It is my conviction that, as long as I have sufficient confidence myself and make sufficient efforts, I am bound to accomplish some form of achievements in the field of statistics and make due contributions to the development of quantitative research in economics in the Chinese academia. Miracle will indeed happen.

I specialized in accounting at the Accounting College of _ University of Finance and Economics. An undergraduate education in the specialty of accounting covers knowledge in a wide range of fields-economics, management science, mathematics, statistics, and even sociology. While providing me with a solid academic foundation, this education has enabled me to ferret out the areas that can really capture my interest. I have cherished a strong interest in mathematics since the primary school and developed my talents all the way through my middle and high school. But it is only through my undergraduate study that I have come to realize the vital importance of mathematical approaches to the study of economics. This very realization has further reinforced my determination to choose the career of an applied statistician in the future. Toward such an objective, I have devoted special efforts to the study of mathematics and statistics. Apart from intensive work in such compulsory courses as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Theory of Probability, Statistics, and Mathematical Statistics, I have also attended a series of important optional courses including Operational Research, Game Theory of Economics, Sampling Investigation and made full use of my spare time to learn the knowledge of statistics as much as possible.

My undergraduate education should be described as very rewarding and fruitful. For the past three consecutive years, I have maintained top ranking in my class and for two consecutive years I was given the ”Outstanding Student“ Award, winning Level-A scholarships. I have demonstrated special aptitudes in mathematics and in English. My natural talents in mathematics and my dedicated efforts to mathematics coursework have led my GPA in all the mathematics courses to reach 3.9, far exceeding the level of average students. In terms of English language, I have also been well above average. In the first semester in I won the first prize at the ”Freshmen Cup“ English Listen Comprehension Contest and in I won the first prize in the English Contest for College Students in China, the third prize at the Oral English Contest in _ Province. Even though I have assumed various responsibilities for extracurricular activities of several student organizations, I have still managed to perform well academically, a fact that should be attributed to my extra diligence, productive study methods, and effective allocation of my time and energy. From the very outset of my undergraduate career, I made up my mind to fully exploit all the available resources of my university to achieve comprehensive self-development and what I have achieved adequately testifies to the rewarding undergraduate life I have been living.

As a science that tries to discover inherent quantitative relationships among different data and make rational statistical inferences by applying relevant theories and methodologies, statistics has been widely applied in the modern society, its impact penetrating into almost all fields of physical and social sciences. With China's reform toward the market economy and its accession into the WTO, statistics is becoming increasingly important in China's economic life. The fact that the subject I am interested in will enjoy a broad prospect of application in China makes me very excited and confident concerning my future study and career. In my proposed program, I will first try to consolidate my foundation in statistics and then narrow down my interests to focus on Time Series Analysis and Statistic Inference.

I believe that to make rational inferences is one of the major functions of statistics. In many cases, pure statistical models or time series models can make more precise inferences and predictions than theoretical models of economics. The dilemma faced by modern economics in making predictions is one of the important reasons for me to choose statistics over economics as the area of my concentration. As an important aspect of statistical study and research, I will try to master one or two advanced statistical software such as Gauss and TSP. In addition, if possible, I wish to be a member of the research group of my future advisor under whose direction I can work on a full-length research project. It is equally desirable for me to do extensive internship at a specific government organization or a local enterprise so that I can apply my knowledge of statistics and test its efficacy.

Apart from the sound undergraduate education that I have received, together with my special achievements in mathematics and English, my creativity, perseverance, and my good logical thinking are three major factors of my implicit confidence in my future performance, just as they have contributed to my distinguished performance in the past over most of my peers. Meanwhile, I am also very proud of my past extracurricular performance, which has considerably improved my practical abilities beyond the mere coursework, like teamwork, organization and interpersonal communication. I served as student leader in the Students Union, editor of the university student newspaper, member of Accounting Study Group and Youth Volunteer Association. In , I worked part-time as beauty consultant at the renowned American _ Cosmetics Company. An important experience directly related to my specialty is the internship I did in 2003 at the Statistical Bureau of _ City during which I worked on a city-wide population sampling investigation, collecting and analyzing data and accumulating much practical statistical experience.

I prioritize on _ University as the school for my Master's program in statistics because a careful study of your esteemed university shows me that it is a world famous university with a long academic tradition. In terms of the teaching and research of statistics, it plays a leading role not only in American but also in international academia. Naturally it becomes my ideal choice. As a student of accounting I have built up a sufficient foundation in statistics and mathematics requisite for a graduate program in statistics. Therefore, I sincerely wish that my application could be seriously considered.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

As a 28-year-old female, there has been nothing sensational about my past education and career experience. I do not feel any regret because I have always been making worthy efforts to achieve personal development and to enrich my life in my own way. Helen Keller serves as a paragon that I will emulate in my entire lifetime. The beautiful things that she brought to the world with her loving heart and her strength convince me that the power of the spiritual motivation is infinite. An individual lives a meaningful live only to the extent of benefiting the welfare of others. Both my education and my five-year work experience have unmistakably made me believe that economics is a science whose ultimate function is the improvement of human welfare. The motivation behind my current application for a Master’s program in economics is to pursue a more fruitful career development in the future so that the process of my self-actualization will also be a process of making contributions to others.

My education background makes me an appropriate candidate for your program. My education consists of two stages. From 1993 to 1995 I received a junior college education from the Business School of _ University, majoring in marketing. Then I proceeded onto an undergraduate program in the Department of Business Administration of _ University, waived of entrance examination because of my distinguished academic performance at the junior college (ranking top second among 31 students in the class). During my undergraduate program, I continue to maintain a satisfactory academic performance, ranking top ten among a total of 51 students. Completing my undergraduate program in 1998, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in economics.

Through my undergraduate program, I gained an increasingly deep understanding of the importance of economics. As far as I am concerned, economics is by no means an abstract discipline. It is closely connected with reality and is designed to explore and explain diverse economic phenomena and economic laws. For the foreseeable future, the conflict between the scarcity of natural resources and the infinitude of human demand will continue to persist, posing a long-lasting threat to the social development of all nations. The necessity to seek a solution to this conflict gave birth to Economics, which promises to maximize material wealth through an optimum allocation of resources. Because of my diligent efforts at coursework and my strong interest in economics, I managed to achieve a top-10 ranking in my class, winning the honor of Outstanding Student and a second-class scholarship. I familiarized myself with most classic works on economics and management, including Principles of Management by Harold Koontz, Economics by Samuelson, Competition Strategy by Porter and Wealth of Nations by Adam Smiths, etc. From the very beginning of my economics study, I have tried to expose myself to western perspectives.

Starting from the premise that economics will be lifeless unless it is applied to the problems in the real world, I paid special attention in my undergraduate program to the combination of theory and practice as a way of learning and applying my knowledge of economics. I once spent a whole summer vacation on conducting a survey of the fast food business in _ City. I sampled 15 fast food restaurants, carried out interviews with restaurant owners and the customers. I applied quantitative analysis to my statistics and proposed concrete measures for developing the city’s fast food industry through improving management, business environment, food variety and service quality.

My research ability was improved through writing my thesis –The Protection and the Development of China’s National Industry in the Age of Reform and Opening Up. The thesis focuses on China’s joining of WTO and its possible negative impact on the growth of national industry. My conclusion is that a careful balance must be struck between the protection of national industry and the introduction of foreign capital. The thesis was rated “Excellent” for its comprehensive theoretical formulation, detailed statistics and creative perspectives.

Yours sincerely,

1、Resume
