Marketing experts like to classify people into different generation groups, believing that people of the same age share similar value and attitudes. I agreewith those experts'' theory in that it emphasizes the connection between thecircumstances of one's upbringing and one's later outlook on life. Mypersonality, talents, values, even career choice have been profoundly influencedby my family life and upbringing in Taiwan.

My name is Peter Huang and I’ve grown up in Ten-Mou, a multiculturalneighborhood in suburban Taipei. During the early years of my childhood, myparents exerted a profound influence over my development. Though neither of themwas involved in business, by watching their integrity and hard work, I learnedmore about the true meaning of success than I would ever have in anyclassroom.

My father is an Air Force colonel. He joined the R.O.C Air Force at the ageof 14, struggling to achieve his personal best as the supply division chief ofthe R.O.C. Air Force Academy. Unlike some officers in the military, who dependedon family relationship and privilege to get promoted, my father gained hisposition by hard work and assiduity. He thus emphasized the importance ofindustriousness when it came to my education. When I was 10, I attended a speechcontest. During the week before the contest, my father and I spent two hours aday together, organizing the lecture content, adjust my rhythm, and rehearsing.I was a shy, soft-spoken child, and found speaking in public difficult at first. But through my father's patient efforts and his believe in the rewards of hardwork, I gradually became an excellent public speaker and won many of thecontests that followed. As a result of the experiences such as this, I learned avery strong work ethic and emulated some of my father's best characteristics -perseverance and dedication.

These qualities served me well as I entered mandatory military service inTaiwan and faced many difficult situations. I once led a squad to enact thetyphoon disaster relief action in Nan-tou. We had one week in which to salvage afactory that was half-buried in mud. As the squad commander, I not onlysupervised, but also participated in the demanding and seemly endless diggingwork. And each night, after an exhausting work when all other soldiers wereasleep, I spent extra hours checking if there were sufficient supplies andmaking plans for the next day's relief action. When I finally laid down tosleep, I could not help but reflect on how much I had developed, as both aperson and a leader, since that first speech contest.

My mother has a warm and kind personality, and has always reached out tothe expatriates in our neighborhood. She organized a language exchange club withthe American students in local colleges, hoping to increase understanding ofTaiwanese and American cultures through the exchange of language. I took part inthe club when I was still in elementary school. This childhood multi-culturalexperience instilled in me an active personality and willingness to interactwith people of different cultures. In particularly, it strengthened my interestin American and my desire to work and live there one day.

My mother’s emphasis on international exchange and cooperation has led meto work for the Fulbright Foundation in Taipei as a research assistant. Thisposition allows me to interact with educational associations in the UnitedStates and to take part in international conferences. I once participated in aventure capital seminar in Hsin-Chu, working on the issue of graduate leveltechnology management education with representatives of major high-techcompanies and academic institutions. Last November, I represented the Foundationin an international Tele-conference in Taipei. The conference was conducted bothin English and in Chinese and was hosted by the Prime of Ministry of Education. My work has also given me the opportunity to know and become friends withexceptional Fulbright scholars from the United States.

While my childhood years shaped my character, it was my high school andcollege years which led to my interest in business. 1988 was both a determiningyear to my career choices and a turning point in Taiwan's economy. As peoplefamiliar with Taiwan's modern economic history know, the exchange rate of theNew Taiwan Dollar to U.S. Dollars moved from 40:1 to 25:1 in that year under theoverwhelming pressure of American government. Thus meant that the traditionaladvantage of Taiwan's economy, low labor costs, was no longer our strength.People everywhere were talking about the future of Taiwan's economy. Out of ayoung man's passion, I wanted to contribute my talent and effort to my country. That was the time at which I made up my mind that someday, I will makeTaiwan-made products famous world-widely, like those produced by IBM, Intel, orMicrosoft.

This teenage naive patriotic dream transformed into an interest in businessadministration and economics after I graduated from Taipei First Senior HighSchool. I focused my college study on manufacturing administration andeconomics. From four years of lectures, seminars, and in-factory study in thedepartment of Industrial Engineering at National Formosa University, I acquiredskills in quality insurance, manufacturing planning and control, and factoryimprovement and diagnostic methods. In my economic class, I learned how prices, preferences, and incomes affect people's demand of goods from the microeconomic.I also acquired knowledge of how various factors - government policies, currencyexchange rate, and balance of international trade - affect a country's economicsgrowth. My interest in business, however, is not limited to industrialengineering and economics. In my junior year, I also took 6 credits ofaccounting courses and learned the knowledge of basic accounting principles, financial statements, and managerial accounting. To acquire a more thoroughunderstand of management information systems, I chose “Alumni AssociationDatabase Management System for Department of Industrial Engineering” as mygraduate activity project. From each step of developing the database system, Ilearned solid skills in FoxPro programming and enterprise demand analysis.

I am thankful that my parents provided me with an environment thatencouraged me to develop my personality and an intellect for which I amremembered. With a deeply-instilled work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, anda high level of motivation, I believe I will enrich the professional and socialenvironment at your esteemed Buchman School and continue to grow as a expert inhigh-tech industry.

Dear X,

It is an apparent truth that,in modern technology-dominated and highlycompetitive society, the kind of people who will be most highly appreciated arethose who command central business regulations and legal rules, grasp advancedtechnology ahead of others and apply it to productive utilization, and possessoutstanding management talents and interpersonal communication skills.Although, with the alarmingly rapid integration of global economy and the dramatic changesof technological advances, competitions among management talents are alsobecoming increasingly fierce, the professional with the aforesaid combination oftalents will ultimately prevail, and are bound to become the most sought-afterpeople on the job market. As a person who has achieved moderate successes inmarket competitions,I have made a seemingly abrupt and incomprehensivedecision―to suspend my booming career in favor of an application for admissioninto the Management Science and Engineering program at your prestigiousuniversity. However, the motivation behind this present application issufficiently simple―to develop myself through your program into a well-trainedprofessional with that special combination of talents, with a strong academicbackground, who can stand up to the challenges of tomorrow.

My confidence in my potential is derived from the outstanding performancethat I have produced over the past few years in my business activities.Upongraduation from The X Institute of Light Industry in ,I,despite myundergraduate specialization in leather engineering, chose the employment withthe X International Trade Company in an effort to satisfy my interest inbusiness and management. From working as sales representative to sales managerof the Company,I carried out important responsibilities and made importantachievements.I was responsible for marketing computer accessories and networkequipment in the three provinces which constitute the entire Northeastern partof China.I was also in charge of selling X automobiles and my annual salesvolume reached an average of 50 million RMB.Then in 20X,I switched to work atChina X Information Technology Corporation, one of the top 100 electronicenterprises in China, where I participated in the implementation of more than adozen projects, including several major projects such as the project ofrenovating the large screens in the X at the worth of 10 million RMB.Myequally outstanding performance in those projects won high evaluations from myimmediate superior.

My ability to carry out effective study and research as demonstrated in mypast academic career is sufficient to convince me of my adaptability to a newacademic environment and to a rigorous curriculum. As a child from a onceimpoverished farm family,it is all too natural for me to have experienced anacademic pursuit replete with hardships and challenges. It is exactly thisdirect experience and deep insight into the difficult conditions of humanexistence that resulted in my sustained diligent efforts at my coursework, hencemy consistently distinguished academic performance. In the local best middle andhigh school,I was ranked first, participating in national physics andmathematics competitions and city-level English contests and winning goodresults.I self-studied the college courses of mathematic analysis and advancedmathematics, and took up English and Japanese as my first and second foreignlanguages. The X Institute of Light Industry which I subsequently entered isone of the key colleges of China and I handled all my coursework with muchfacility.Among a wide variety of specialized courses,I liked AdvancedMathematics,Physical Chemistry and Principles of Chemical Engineering most, andmy self-education focused on Linear Algebra,Probability Theory, and C ProgramDesign. The study of those abstruse courses was a kind of enjoyment for me,notonly training my ability of logical thinking but also providing me with a soundmathematics foundation. When a sophomore,I was the first in my class to passthe National English Proficiency Test (Band VI).Although I had to work hardpart-time in order to cover my younger brother's and my own tuition,I did notallow my part-time jobs to interfere with my proper academic work, achievingvery satisfactory results in almost all the courses. My score for mathematicswas the highest in the class and I was awarded third-class scholarship.

Yours sincerely,

Letters of recommendation are a very important part of the application process. As colleges become more and more sought out from the increasing number of applicants each year, the need to stand out from the competition is also increasing. Below we will provide helpful information on how to write a college recommendation as well as advice for tailoring each letter.

A high school transcript can help tell an admissions office a lot about a candidate, but a college recommendation letter provides an opportunity for them to see the whole person. While recommendation letters are never a bad idea to include in the application, even if the college does not require one, many colleges do necessitate the inclusion of one. Here is some advice to keep in mind when writing a college recommendation letter:

Know the candidate - it may sound obvious, but it is important that you know the candidate well. After all, how can you write a college recommendation letter for a someone you know little about? Recommendations written for candidates with a vague familiarity are often identifiable and can do more harm than good.

How you know the candidate - when you write a college recommendation letter, make sure to include how you know the candidate as well as the length of time you have known that person.

Provide relevant information - be sure to find out the purpose of the recommendation so as to provide relevant information about the candidate and his or her specific qualifications. If the recommendation is to supplement an application, discuss how that person is an appropriate candidate for the college he or she is applying to. Despite its purpose, however, the overall goal of a college recommendation letter is to attest to the capabilities and character of the candidate.

Obtain a rsum - another tip on how to write a collage recommendation letter is to first obtain the students rsum with a listing of his or her GPA, activities, awards, leadership roles, community service, employment experience and special skills. The more information you have about a particular candidate, the more constructive your recommendation can be.

Personalize the letter - to help make the letter more personal, before writing a college recommendation letter, it is important to determine the person to whom the letter should be addressed. If the student is unaware of the name, the letter may begin “Dear Selection Committee.”

Proofread the letter - one of the most important tips on how to write a college recommendation letter is making sure to proofread it when finished. A letter containing grammatical errors will appear unprofessional and may leave a negative impression.

Mailing the letter - establish with the student whether the recommendation letter must be mailed in an official envelope from your institution, or if it can be included with the application. If it is to accompany the application, return the letter to the candidate in a sealed envelope.

Determine the deadline - double-check with the student as to the deadline of the college recommendation letter. Ideally, you will be given an adequate amount of time to complete a positive, detailed letter, however, the most important detail is that it is received before the application deadline.

Save the letter - when you have finished writing a recommendation, be sure to save it in order to help make writing the next college recommendation letter easier. The student will likely be applying to more than one school and may ask that you write a separate recommendation for each one. Although it is important that each letter is tailored to the application at hand, select information can be recycled for multiple letters. It is more convenient to tailor the original passage than to repetitively recollect the advice on how to write a college recommendation.

What Colleges Really Want

Colleges place a large emphasis on a students academic ability because what is accomplished in high school is the strongest predictor of their academic success in college. What colleges really want, however, is a win-win situation. They want to admit students who will thrive at their institution, not only for the students benefit, but for their own as well. As more and more students become college-bound, colleges and universities will become increasingly selective, placing more emphasis on the ability to know how to write a college recommendation letter.

As a teacher, counselor, employer or personal acquaintance of a college-bound teen, you may at some point receive a request for help in writing a college recommendation letter. These students are not only placing their trust in you, they are putting you in the unique position to make an impact on whether or not they are admitted to their college of choice. Following this advice on how to write a college recommendation will help to ensure a professional letter and give your candidate a greater likelihood of being accepted into his or her college of choice.

Dear Professor xxxx

I am a student, graduated from BaoYang middle school, Nanning, GuangXi autonomous region, in 20xx. I am still studying in high school now, because I was not enrolled by the ideal university last year. Recently, I have a dream to study abroad. Then I search online and find that it is more convenient and suitable for me to go to New Zealand for study.

First, New Zealand is a multicultural country, which has the most advanced education in the world. Second, the tuition is lower than other countries’, which I think is mo

re reasonable for me. Finally, the climate of New Zealand is similar with the climate of the South of China. Considering above reasons, I told my parents my plan on going to New Zealand for study, and my parent agreed with me.

As a girl, I like preschool education since I was young. Nowadays, Chinese parents, who want their children to get better education, pay more attention to preschool education. If I study specialized curriculums on preschool education, I will go back China and work hard on preschool education after leaving college.

My plan is as follows: first, I plan to study English in language institute for about a half year in New Zealand. Then, I will study specialized curriculums on preschool education.

I believe I have the ability of study abroad, because I have finished all high school curriculums. Besides, my parents both have job and have rich income, so they will support me to finish my study. After finishing my study, I will return to my homeland and work on preschool education, so as to realize my life value.

wang is an impressive student because he has been forced to overcome thesignificant challenge of a serious illness during his freshman year. when ifirst met wang in my discrete math class, he did not appear to be anythingspecial to me. while his exam scores were good, they were not as high as i wouldnow expect of him. what i didnt know then was that due to his illness. wang wasattempting to take all of the difficult early mathematics courses at one time, including discrete mathematics, advanced mathematics, linear algebra, andpossibilities. while most

students found preparing for just one set of these exams difficult, wangwas overwhelmed by four of them. but in the end, he achieved an impressive scoreon the final exam, which made me conscious of his unusual determination hedemonstrates when confronting difficult challenges.

mr. wangi have often talked about a variety of mathematicscomputer scienceconceptsproblems. during these discussions, i always found him to bedelightfully intelligent. not only does he quickly understand the

conceptsproblems presented to him, he is able to analyze theseproblemspresent solutions. but perhaps most important is that wangs thinking isintensely rigorous. when looking at any question, he carefully scrutinizes itifhe finds any uncertain issues, he clears them up immediately. i believe thiskind of thought is essential to become an excellent computer programmer.

留学申请书:CV(Curriculum Vitae)的撰写

·个人的一些基本信息(姓名,出身年月,邮箱等);

·Research Interests:…………

·Education:

GPA

Rank

Awards / Scholarships and etc.

·Research Experiences:

·Activities Experiences:

·Academic Skills:…………

·Self Evaluation:…………

留学申请书:PS(个人陈述)撰写注意事项

Dream? American dream? It occurred to my mind too late. Even my undergraduate roommate had taken Toefl-PBT twice, I just thought that Toefl had nothing to do with me and I could not be one of the group members who chased their American dreams. But three years later, I joined in this large group. Till now, I have taken theGRE and Toefl-iBT examination yet since I want to pursue my dream in an oversea country. Yes, America.

What I am pursuing now is a Ph.D. degree of ………… which belongs to the ECE Department at XX University.

Please write a one-page essay describing your academic and career goals. Address the following in your essay:

In which specific area do you wish to study?

Why should you be admitted to the program?

A statement of purpose is required for all degree-seeking applicants. Please submit a statement of approximately 300-500 words concerning your purpose for undertaking or continuing graduate study, your reasons for wanting to study at Purdue, and your professional plans, career goals, and research interests. You also may explain any irregularities or special circumstances applicable to your background and elaborate on your special abilities, awards, achievements, scholarly publications, and/or professional history.

Due to the comprehensiveness of China’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. Though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. Management is a burgeoning field in China, so I hope I can acquire more modern knowledge on management in England.

The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. As a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. My mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. And so it was early in my life that I hoped I, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.

With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered. Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.

As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the College Entrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, , I was so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in the department of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. After several terms, I realized that I would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. At that moment, I lost my direction and objectives.

My persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed reading the books included Encyclopedia American, and some books about management by Peter F.Drucker. I began to notice something interesting: Why some companies can produce more than others? Why some company can sell more than others? Why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?

With the questions in my mind, I started to read many relevant books. I was lucky to read the book “Jack: Straight from the Gut”by Jack Welch, in Which John A. Byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. When I was a junior, I ran a bookshop by myself near my school. I should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. From this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely I was increasingly interested in what I was doing. By December, , I had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of IT. To accumulate more relevant knowledge, I strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.

Fortunately, as a senior, I began by conducting an internship in the Architecture Company in Zhejiang Province. Over six months, I worked as an assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different industries. The experience showed me that management is much more important than that of I thought in big companies. After graduation, I continued my work in this company. In May, , the company offered me an opportunity to participate in an training program held by a famous management school.

Dear Professor xxxx,

due to the comprehensiveness of china’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. management is a burgeoning field in china, so i hope i can acquire more modern knowledge on management in england.

the roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. my father was among the first of china’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. as a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. my mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. and so it was early in my life that i hoped i, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.

with the time of growing up, i preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. i never ceased to contemplate over the questions i encountered. subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.

as a high school student in china, i had to concentrate on the college entrance examination (cee), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. unfortunately when sitting in the exam in june, XX, i was so nervous that i didn’t score well in the cee exam. i enrolled in the department of computer science in zhejiang college of traditional chinese medicine. any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. after several terms, i realized that i would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. at that moment, i lost my direction and objectives.

my persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. as a matter of fact, i enjoyed reading the books included encyclopedia american, and some books about management by peter f.drucker. i began to notice something interesting: why some companies can produce more than others? why some company can sell more than others? why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?

with the questions in my mind, i started to read many relevant books. i was lucky to read the book “jack: straight from the gut”by jack welch, in which john a. byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. when i was a junior, i ran a bookshop by myself near my school. i should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. from this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely i was increasingly interested in what i was doing. by december, XX, i had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of it. to accumulate more relevant knowledge, i strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.

fortunately, as a senior, i began by conducting an internship in the architecture company in zhejiang province. over six months, i worked as an assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different industries. the experience showed me that management is much more important than that of i thought in big companies. after graduation, i continued my work in this company. in may, XX, the company offered me an opportunity to participate in an training program held by a famous management school. through in-depth discussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me to pursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual ability and the brand new ideas i mentioned.

during the short period of training, i realized that pursuing a higher degree in management is a wise choice for me now. lancaster, with its excellence in management, represents the perfect fit for my needs. in your challenging environment, i can build the required foundation of knowledge related to management to achieve my goals. i am firmly convinced that your admission will be my first step of success. with this in mind, i hereby submit my application, and await your favorable reply.

as a child i often accompanied my father to his small coin shop and spent hours watching him work. when i was older, i sometimes set up displays, waited on customers, and even balanced the books. this experience instilled in me the desire to own and manage my own business someday, yet i understand that the business world today is more complex. this complexity requires more education, and with that in mind, i am applying to the master’s of business administration program at indiana university bloomington (iub).
