关于千手观音还有一个传说呢！在南北朝时，妙庄王有三个公主，长女叫妙金，此女叫妙银，小女叫妙善。妙金和妙银都常年在宫中，仅有妙善出家为尼。妙庄王命妙善回宫，但妙善不愿回家，妙庄王一怒之下赶走了僧尼，可这惊动了天神。他们让妙庄王身上长满了脓包。有一位大夫说，要用亲身女儿的手眼方可治好。于是，妙庄王求助于妙金和妙银，但两位公主都拒绝了。妙善明白后，便献出了手眼，治好了妙庄王的病。这件事让佛主明白了，便送给了妙善一千只手眼。所以，她就成了千手千眼的观世音菩萨。
据说千手观音刻好以后，七仙女正好下凡，看见了千手观音。便在原先的手眼中又加上了7只手和眼。能找出这七只手和眼的人，便可长命百岁！
