Dear _,
A Chinese graduate student of composite materials, I would like to pursue Ph. D. studies in a program in which I can do advanced inter-disciplinary research that is built upon my expertise in both chemical engineering and composite materials. I find that your program is one of the few where such research is possible.
I am due to complete my Master's studies next year at the Beijing Institute of Light Industry, a well-respected higher-learning institution that has served as a major cradle of engineering talents for light industries in this country. Majoring in structural mechanics of composites, I have focused my studies on honeycomb sandwich and its applications for civilian purposes. Although I did not take many of the traditional undergraduate courses in this field, my graduate studies have proceeded well. Building on my extensive working experience with all kinds of materials, I have completed a host of projects, as listed in the Appendix, that are not only technologically advanced but also commercially profitable. My research has been highly commended by the school.
To accomplish what I have accomplished, I have had to be more intelligent and overcome more difficulties than most of my classmates, for I did not get to receive a regular undergraduate education. Although I performed strongly in the 1988 National University Entrance Examinations and met the requirements for university acceptance, I did not craft a good enough strategy in applying to the universities. As a result, my application fell through cracks, leaving me only the opportunity to study in a two-year college program, not to be discouraged by this mishap, I studied with diligence and creativity, and succeeded in firmly grounding myself in the studies of material propensities and structures. When I completed that program, I was as capable as most graduates from the honors program in handling practical material problems from the angle of chemistry.
Upon graduation in 1990,I first took up the job of an assistant engineer in a biochemistry pharmaceutical manufacturer, where I was in charge of the development and analysis of several lines of products. I was given the responsibility for VD Calcium Tablet in the first two weeks, as I demonstrated that I was able to do independent research, particularly in terms of quantitative analysis and microbiology inspection, from five raw materials to semi-made and finished products. As my talents showed up, I took charge of the production and inspection of more and more products. Towards the end of 1991, I was awarded the honor of Excellent Employee in the factory of almost two thousand people in recognition of my contribution to its business.
Armed with the ability to quickly grasp the essence of new things, I made even more contribution to my second employer, a Joint-Venture Company of cosmetics. In this company, In the first two months after I was hired, I established, with reference to both the ISO and national standards,. The company's standards of packaging materials for 35 different products from corrugated box to paper lid, from glass bottle to plastic cover. During the first half year, I turned myself from just a user of cosmetics to quality engineer of cosmetic actively engaged in R. & D. Three new products (Elysee Vitamin E Cream, Elysee Tonique and Elysee Lipbalm) I helped to develop were recognized as Provincial Scientific Achievements, for which I was conferred three certificates of Honor. I believe that when one embarks on a new career, he should be quick in accepting changes even though he must still stick to his old principles.
In these six years of working experience, I greatly improved myself in terms of technological expertise. I made chemical and microbiological examinations of different drugs skillfully and independently, successfully developed several new types of cosmetics, some of which merited the designation of Provincial Scientific Achievements. But more importantly, I learned to ask more sophisticated questions and then answer them.
The years of being an engineer has taught me how to be a person. I learned to be both a team leader and a team player. Working in conjunction with others, I have always held onto the principle of being honest, modest and helpful to others, whether I was just a technician, an engineer or even the assistant to the general manager. I enjoy working with other people. I have been well liked by my colleagues. At the farewell parties for me, some of my friends were so reluctant to say goodbye to me that they would burst into tears.
While working for the Chinese factory, I was once “borrowed” by a college to teach there as an adjunct instructor for half a year. During those months, I often worked late to check students' work and prepare for the next day's classes. I believe that this teaching experience will serve me well should you be able to offer me the position of a teaching assistant.
At the graduate school, I have met new challenges the old way. I first acquired a profound understanding of the basic concepts and theories of mechanics (theoretical and material ones), and then applied the fundamentals to my major: composites. As you can see from the from the transcripts of academic record, this approach paid off. My first academic article Honeycomb Sandwich Composite will be published in the second edition of the Journal of Beijing Institute of Light Industry of . Now I am writing my Master's Degree thesis, in which I shall compare the mechanical properties of corrugated cores and honeycomb cores, analyze the outstanding characters of the latter, establish the standards of civil-use honeycomb fiberboard, and consider the marketing future of honeycomb fiberboard.
I am confident that the combination of my extensive working experience and my solid academic training has adequately prepared me for advanced studies in my chosen field of specialty in your distinguished program. To undertake such studies, I have learned English well, so well that I was appointed first the English secretary to the factory's director and then the assistant to the joint-venture's general manager. In these positions, I dealt with international visitors and handled English documents. Such English proficiency should prove a great advantage to me once I am enrolled in your program.
Although I am now focusing my academic interests on composite materials, you may find that I may be more suitable for other majors. If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could advise me accordingly.
The following is a list of the research work I have undertaken under the guidance of my advisor (mostly in the area of industrial applications of composites): (从略)
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
In China as in the _, one can easily give up the career of a language teacher to become a lawyer or a businessman. I, however, gave up a promising legal and business career to become a language teacher, but I have never regretted it. In fact, the more I teach, the more committed I am to teaching. But not just teaching. Having battled with China’s traditional mode of teaching for several years, I now would like to help improve teaching in China by introducing new and more effective instructional technology and media into the country. For that, I would like to pursue an advanced degree in education in your country.
Now an English teacher at the training center of the China National Container Corporation, I graduated in 1995 from the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing, where I majored in business law. At this highly respected higher-learning institution, I received broad training that was both rigorous and vigorous. After four years of undergraduate studies, the strong logic inherent in law translated into strong logic in my thinking. With the knowledge and skills I attained in the law program, I boast the kind of intellectual maturity that would help me whatever I do. But law was never my first choice for a profession.
Starting from my high school days, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher. In the second year of high school, we once had to write an essay on the topic “what do you want to do when you grow up”. I proudly wrote, “I want to be a teacher!” But my parents shattered my dream by insisting that I pursue another profession. My father, an engineer with a Ph. D. degree, and my mother, a university teacher of English, had their reasons. Chinese teachers, particularly those teaching at the primary and secondary levels, are poorly paid and begrudgingly respected. Being young and inexperienced in the world, I acceded to their wishes when I was choosing my major for the university.
But my passion for teaching was not to be stifled forever. Giver any opportunity, it would burst out. Upon graduation with an LL. B. Degree, I first took up the position of a supervisor with the China National Container Corporation in charge of its Overseas Sales Department. As the job entailed frequent translation and interpretation between Chinese and English, I persisted in improving my English proficiency by attending various training courses and learning it on my own. My command of the foreign tongue became so good that, after about one year, I began to teach it to my colleagues on a full-time basis at the company’s training center. After a huge detour, my career finally got back on track.
What makes teaching so enjoyable to me is that it is a learning experience. I enjoy it the most when my students ask difficult questions, particularly questions that I have to think long and hard to answer. I also enjoy posing questions to students, but my questions are never intended to intimidate the students or even test their knowledge but rather designed to stimulate their minds. In the constant exchange of questions and answers, students and teachers improve themselves alike to the credit of the old Chinese saying: To teach is to learn. In my three years of teaching, I really have learned a great deal.
One of the things I have learned is the ability to not only deal with but also strike an accord with people of different backgrounds. My students at the training center are all adults accomplished in a variety of roles and professions. In most cases, they are older than I am. While I stand as their equals, I have served as their mentors and role models the same way as most teachers do their students. By so doing, I have won their trust and confidence in what I teach, which has helped to make my teaching powerful and effective.
To take full advantage of my teaching skills, I started in October to teach English and other subjects at the primary school I attended when I was a child. As the children I teach are at the age when I studied here, I am particularly sensitive to their needs and appreciative of their potential. Together with other teachers, I designed various training programs in calligraphy, art, writing, mental calculation, and English, programs that combine learning with entertainment. The kids n my class are now learning more and faster thanks to the fun they find everyday in my programs.
Entertainment is, however, by no means just a ploy I use to sweeten the bitter pill of learning for the children, but rather has its own intrinsic value. While kids can hardly learn well without being able to have fun, the lack of fun hurts more than the kids’ ability to learn. It can impair the kids’ emotional and psychological health to an extent that no amount of knowledge and skills drab teaching force-feeds into them can make up. Entertainment is therefore part and parcel of what we teachers have to provide to children if we are to help them grow up into productive members of the society. The way I see entertainment, it should be considered an end in education.
As China’s education is oriented overwhelmingly towards helping kids pass exams, entertainment is about the least on the mind of an average teacher or principal. In the rush to produce super kids as measured by the grades out of exams, the purpose of education is lost all too often. The curriculum is limited to subjects covered by mandatory exams. Students are seldom encouraged to come up with original ideas. Interaction between teachers and students is kept at a minimum in the classroom. The teachers compete to heap homework on the students, as do the parents. While everybody is tired to death, few kids get armed with the ability to take initiatives or solve real-world problems. It is high time that fresh approaches were brought in.
One of the ways to make a change to the Chinese classroom is to utilize new technologies and media of teaching. School authorities in China, as those elsewhere, increasingly realize the importance of computerization, and many of the better-off schools in China are already stacked with state-of-the-art computers. But reports say only a tiny fraction of those computers are adequately utilized. The situation with other educational technologies and media is no better. They are either absent from the school sitting or vastly under-used. Few Chinese teachers have acquired the know-how or the drive to make use of these modern facilities.
I therefore would like to pursue first a master’s degree and then a Ph. D. degree in instructional technology and media in the United States, where the use of modern educational facilities is undoubtedly the most advanced in the world. Judging by the information I have culled from your, website I think your institution is an American leader in the research and studies of this field. I am anxious to study under the seasoned guidance of your distinguished faculty. I hope that, after I complete my advanced training in your program, I can be a much more effective teacher in China, one that sets an example for all other Chinese teachers.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila
Dear x,
Knowing where one is heading during navigation brings assured happiness. Asa student majoring in Computer Software, I began my odyssey four years ago. Now,after the initial mysticism was gradually unveiled, my curiosity remains thesame. Indeed, having entered this splendid computer world, I am more than greedyfor something new.
From the beginning of my study, my endeavor was fixed on the underlyingbranches of Computer Science, particularly System Software development. Novelapplications on other’s platform may be fruitful, but I think it’s moreappealing to act as an independent “manager”. In fact, mathematics, OS, DBMS andmodern compiler are all the examples, any breakthrough of which would pushforward the whole industry. Individuality is achieved in this uniqueposition.
My paces toward this goal are always steady. As mathematics permeates tothe every corner of Computer Science, I am eager to see how it functions. I tookcourses offered by the Mathematics Department including Mathematical Analysisand Advanced Algebra. The curriculum also covered Discrete Mathematics,Probability & Statistics and Theoretical Computer Science. As supplement tomy scope of knowledge, I learn by myself Combination Mathematics and the Scienceof Programming. This really made a hard period of time, but the harvest wasrewarding. I come to understand that even the most irrelevant softwaredisciplines have the origins in common. The importance of Fractured Geometry inComputer Graphics is already obvious. What if a step furthers toward TSP or BinPacking? Immeasurable. Then came my favorite topics: Operating System, Compilerand Database. I worked hard and derived bits of my own insight. In fact, I wasgreatly encouraged to find some of my ideas successfully implemented in thecorresponding course projects. My final grade is straight “As” in these coursed. In short, although my experience in Computer Science is still limited, I believeits depth is well accessible. As my advisor, Prof. Fang Yu, put it figurativelyin one of his lectures: “ It makes no difference whether a hunter captures 5 or7 rabbits. What counts is he knows how to use his gun.”
I think I can be the qualified shooter now. in my undergraduate years, Ihave earned various kinds of scholarships, among which were “Peking UniversityFellowship” and “Excellent Academic Scholarship”. My overall GPA ranks upper 10%among 48 students of the same grade. Because of my satisfactory performance, Iwas granted the honor of entering the graduate program at Peking Universitydirectly, waived of the admission test. In retrospect, my workload is alwaysheavy but it is worth my time of effort. Presently, I have both adequatetheoretical understanding and rich programming experience. READY I AM.
Of all the sub-areas of Computer Science, my major interest is parallelprocessing and the related compiler construction. The terminology of parallelprocessing came to me when I read an article about digital circuit testing.According to this article, there exist many serial approaches of solving theautomatic test pattern generation (ATPG) problem. Though certain method ofsolving ATPG sometimes proved efficient, the computation time for a method ofsolving ATPG sometimes proved efficient, the computation time for a completeresult is intolerable, the a parallel processing machine is proposed. Usingparalleled ATPG method, this NP complete dilemma is ingeniously handled. Afterreading, I surprisingly realized that parallel processing opened a new windowfor the computationally intensive problems, which prove intractable for the VONNEUMANN Architecture. You can always first split a specific computational taskinto several independent divisions, then assign each part to a certainprocessor. With reasonable partition and proper synchronization, most gruelingscientific applications can be reduced to normal scale problems.
With the advent of the multiprocessor architecture, compiler optimizationfaced a new challenge. A compiler not only has to translate, but it is alsoresponsible for generating parallel-processing loop provides a rich opportunityof exploiting parallelism. Therefore, finding an optimum strategy for loopsbecause a hot research topic. On the whole, parallelism changes our view towardthe conventional computer architecture so that the compiler’s construction mustmake the corresponding modification. Because of this challenging characteristic,I choose them to be my interest of future study.
Yet parallel processing is far from maturity. It has been observed thatsome sequential algorithms can be easily translated into fast parallelalgorithms while some others may not. Is every sequential computation can bedone efficiently in parallel? If not, what properties result in suchdistinction? Another unsettled problem is programming parallel computers now islike programming serial computers in the 1960s. Programmers get locked into aparticular manufacturer’s computers. Is it possible for us to design a higherlevel language for parallel computers that hides the underlying machinearchitecture from users? Both are crying out for solution.
Without advanced knowledge, I can do nothing but wait. In order to convertmy undergraduate study into full play, graduate education is a necessity. Fromthe college guide and my advisor’s recommendation, I am pleased to learn thatyour department has an academic atmosphere where originality is appreciated andindividual potential is explored. It will be the best place for my specializedstudy. If possible, my main interest in the future will be in the followingareas:
Parallel processing, Compiler construction.
Distributed/concurrent systems, Operating system.
Machine learning, Automated fault diagnosis.
As my undergraduate education is very basic, if you feel that I am moresuited for some other areas, any of your suggestion would be highlyappreciated.
Upon the completion of my study, I would return to Peking University andteach what I’ve learned to the students. Then I shall establish a researchcenter to experiment new ideas. It is my ultimate goal to see the Chinesecomputer products leading the global market in the next century. After all, thenavigation is not over yet!
Yours sincerely.

Dear _,
Since a very young age I have always enjoyed caring for people and I feel a great sense of achievement helping people. Biology and Chemistry have always been two of my strongest and most enjoyable subjects throughout my academic studies. My interest in the chemistry of life has lead to me deciding that I wish to pursue a degree in the Pharmacy discipline.
From my A level work I have gained many key skills which will be beneficial to a career in Pharmacy. Two of the strongest skills that I have been able to develop are my organisation and communication skills which are essential for Pharmacists. Throughout my AS Biology I was able to improve upon my communication skills as I had to deliver a presentation about data for which I had independently recorded on the field trip in Oxford. I enjoy the application of logical scientific thinking and knowledge of natural laws to analyse and solve problems occurring in Pharmacy.
As a Pharmacist you do require some skills in mathematics. Maths A level has provided me with the knowledge in analysing and solving problems and from this I have gained sharp numerical skills. With Maths, I am able to calculate the accurate dosage of the drug which is required for the patient in relation to hospital pharmacy.
A levels required a lot of independent work compared to my previous educational years, hence I have learnt to organise myself efficiently. This has helped me to set feasible revision timetables and meet the tight schedules that were presented to me during my A levels. Consequently this has lead to a great improvement in my organisational skills. I believe that these skills are essential and will aid me to become a successful Pharmacy university student.
I am currently gaining work experience in my local dentist, which I enjoy thoroughly and I am gaining a wonderful insight to the world of Dentistry. I completed two successful weeks of work experience at MG Rover in Longbridge which was very beneficial to me as I was able to improve my communication skills and learn more about the so called “new world”. During this time I was involved in a variety of tasks, which included producing a problem resolution action report relating to an investigation I was involved with.
I attended and completed the 'Challenge of Management' course which develops key skills such as communication, planning, problem solving and responsibility, I feel these skills are important and have guided and helped me in my academic studies to-date and will further assist me to become a productive and efficient Pharmacy university student.
I have completed 6 weeks community service at Grestone Primary School.
This also allowed me to develop my personal traits, as I have always been keen to help others.
Many positive comments were made on my appearance, punctuality, attitude and professional relationships with children.
In my time at Handsworth Grammar School I have assisted at Open Days, Parents' Evenings and 11+ Examinations. My main priorities were showing visitors and potential students around the school to make sure each occasion was run smoothly. I have been awarded certificates of gratitude for such events. I have benefited a great deal from such responsibilities as they have helped me improve upon the quality of my teamwork skills immensely. In addition to this I have also been supporting the Duty Team on Wednesdays, where I have to supervise students coming in to school. This has helped me widen my communication skills amongst both younger and older students. All of these key skills have enabled me to attain high academic grades constantly throughout my school life thus I have been awarded numerous certificates for achievement.
Outside of school I have many interests which include attending a snooker club once a week as I have an interest in the sport, which also helps to improve my concentration skills. I am currently a member of my leisure centre, which I use regularly due to my passion in keeping fit and healthy. I particularly enjoy sports such as football and badminton. In addition I have been involved in taking part in Punjabi lessons in my local library. As a result of taking part of this I have achieved a certificate for supplementary education attendance certificate.
I am a reliable, determined and enthusiastic person who will relish the opportunity to study pharmacy if I am given the opportunity.
Yours sincerely,

1、申请时为中国内地居住的永久中国公民;
2、正在国外工作或学习者不得申请;
3、学成后必须返回中国;
4、申请人必须达到澳院校研究型硕士课程在学术和英语水平方面的一般选拔标准,即雅思考试总分6.5分,各单项成绩不低于6.0分;
Dear xxx,
Since a very young age I have always enjoyed caring for people and I feel agreat sense of achievement helping people. Biology and Chemistry have alwaysbeen two of my strongest and most enjoyable subjects throughout my academicstudies. My interest in the chemistry of life has lead to me deciding that Iwish to pursue a degree in the Pharmacy discipline.
From my A level work I have gained many key skills which will be beneficialto a career in Pharmacy. Two of the strongest skills that I have been able todevelop are my organisation and communication skills which are essential forPharmacists. Throughout my AS Biology I was able to improve upon mycommunication skills as I had to deliver a presentation about data for which Ihad independently recorded on the field trip in Oxford. I enjoy the applicationof logical scientific thinking and knowledge of natural laws to analyse andsolve problems occurring in Pharmacy.
As a Pharmacist you do require some skills in mathematics. Maths A levelhas provided me with the knowledge in analysing and solving problems and fromthis I have gained sharp numerical skills. With Maths, I am able to calculatethe accurate dosage of the drug which is required for the patient in relation tohospital pharmacy.
A levels required a lot of independent work compared to my previouseducational years, hence I have learnt to organise myself efficiently. This hashelped me to set feasible revision timetables and meet the tight schedules thatwere presented to me during my A levels. Consequently this has lead to a greatimprovement in my organisational skills. I believe that these skills areessential and will aid me to become a successful Pharmacy universitystudent.
I am currently gaining work experience in my local dentist, which I enjoythoroughly and I am gaining a wonderful insight to the world of Dentistry. 2021
Dear _,
Unlike most of people start their interests through achievements, my interest in accounting started with the failure of the ERP competition. When the Ill-planed budget caused the capital strand breaks, all of our strategies failed to work and the different part of team which suppose to be one fall apart. That's the moment I realized the accounting and controllership system is the soul of a company and began to take every chance to learn about it.
After taking the courses in Accounting, Taxation, Corporate finance, in which class I won the only Best Report Price, the three-time cold-visit to a company Subordinated Petrol China (top500) won me an internship in the finance department. The state- owned PRICNPC has a really complicated company structure with 5 research centers, 2 wholly owned subsidiary companies, 8 oversea offices. But the same regulations and set rules in accounting and controllership they shared help every department be independent as well as co-operate with each other. I find out that it is the well designed internal control system and the continue updating accounting software that make sure that everything under control. That's exactly what I'm seeking for and what Chinese companies need!
Then there came a chance to exam my findings. In the Challenge Cup National Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students, being a leader of my team with 8 team members from 5 different majors and 4 different grades I designed a work mode of systematization and noted the deadlines of the phases then presented them with a flowchart. I emphasized the communication with our accounting department regularly and give feedbacks to me so I can adjust the procedure just in time. The efficiency of work was promoted and at the finally we save 400 RMB and 15days compared to other teams. The Prize was the Silver Meddle and a lifetime career I would like to pursue.
To further combine knowledge I learned from classroom and competitions with the real-world cases, I applied to become RA of Vice President of Modern Management Research Center. Take advantage of Nankai university's best reputation in academic circle in China as well as the great location (similar to Seattle in US), Our five-member team keep close contact with managers of the local companies and solve accounting and financial problems for them. By taking the advice of introduce an unified Inventory management system based on classification and grading of the warehouse model , HuiYuan, the top1 fruit juice maker in China reduced inventory costs and enhance their market competitiveness. I strongly believe that the internal control quality has an economically significant effect on the performance of the company.
However, from the study of many similar cases in my RA experience, I realized that the accounting systems in China are far from perfect and much improvement is needed. This August, when HuiYuan was bought by Coco-Cola, my desire of becoming an accounting professional and a leader in the field got stronger. What people saw was just another case of M&A, but I and my co-workers knew that HuiYuan didna??t have strong enough internal control system to fight with rivals. As a student major in marketing, I understand how much effort to take to build a brand name and how painful when you lose it. This experience gave me my clear view of future study plan which had inspired me to study further. I would like to concentrate on the accounting and controllership track. And it is my sincere desire to return to my home country as a distinguished Master of Accountancy degree holder to help China develop its accounting practices to be among the world leaders in this area.
I have already born some qualities of being a successful leader in business world. My talent of analyze ability revealed ita??s self when I was a junior middle school student. I pass the National Computer Rank Examination grade2 which was a tough task even for a senior college student at that time. The fact that being a leader in 2 student clubs and a member of top student chorus I still won the third class scholarship in my university shows that I can work under pressure and guarantee the high quality of each task. What I truly need now is the professional education in ### program
The advanced accounting courses will strengthen my foundation in accounting, while the financial management and Auditing courses will help to prepare me for my future career in company controllership. The outstanding faculty, along with the excellent selection of courses available within your program will equip me with the latest in accounting theories and practices and allow me to obtain my professional goals My extensive education experience has helped me to define my future goals a?“ to study in the best accounting program in #### business school which has the strongest curriculum and the best location(NY) where I can get first-hand experience as well as the crucial perspective to understanding global business.
I know that I am now fully qualified and prepared to take on this challenge. I strongly believe that my passion in the accounting and future career, my courage in facing challenges and my strong ability to adapt and solve problems as they arise have fully prepared me for the MAcc program at the _ College of Business at _ University.

Dear _,
I am planning to pursue graduate studies towards a Ph.D. degree at your school of engineering starting from the fall of .
My interest in the building structure can be traced back to my success in high school years, when I excelled my fellow classmates in physics and geometry. This not only fired off my interest in structural design but also helped to lay solid groundwork for my undergraduate studies in civil engineering, which heavily involved mechanics in physics and solid geometry.
With excellent scores in the compulsory national university entrance examination, I won acceptance in 1991 into the Beijing Polytech University, one of China’s top 10 engineering schools, particularly well-known for its structural engineering. For five years at this university, I received strict and thorough training in areas such as building structures, building materials. Soil mechanics and foundation, concrete and masonry structures, construction, steel structure and earthquake resistant structure. I also took every opportunity to participate in co-po work and projects commissioned by construction and design companies.
Opportunities abound for civil engineers and civil engineering students in China, which now houses the world’s fastest growing major economy. At every year’s job fair held on the campus of the Polytech University, more than 200 positions compete for 60-odd graduating students. Under such circumstances, undergraduate students in their fifth year are also in high demand for internship at various construction companies and design institutes. Virtually every student gets a full workload immediately upon starting the internship and assumes considerable responsibilities soon afterwards.
I became the luckiest among the lucky by winning a rare opportunity for any civil engineer: to participate in the design of the Beijing Western Railway Station, the largest urban structure in China up to date. This happened while I interned, along with five other schoolmates, at the Beijing Architectural Institute. This institute has designed virtually all the modern landmark buildings in China, including the famous Great Hall of the People and the Museum of Revolutionary History on the Tiananmen Square, the Beijing Railway Station and the Asian Games Village. It was on the strength of my academic merits that I got to enjoy these opportunities.
The Western station project in Beijing consisted of the mail hall (70,000 square meters), south wing building group (40,000 square meters) and north wing building group (35,000 square meters). My task was to assist in the design of a shopping centre in the south wing which had 16,000 square meters. I independently accomplished a quarter of the design for the whole building, mainly responsible for the foundation design, calculation and drawing of steel distribution of beam, floor, columns and concrete piles. I cherished this opportunity to apply the knowledge I had learned in the classroom to the real world problems and I worked with my utmost dedication.
I, however, soon found out that, even in this monumental project, design techniques applied in many cases left much to be desired. When treating the wind load, the earthquake force and the effect of frozen soil, historical data and intelligent estimates were used in place of accurate measuring. This phenomenon made me determined to improve my knowledge and skills in a graduate program that can teach sophisticated know-how, such as yours. It regrettably turned out that the design of the mail hall was seriously flawed, which drew intense media attention nationwide. The structure sank two meters after completion. As experts continue to help the court determine who is responsible, I myself have been awed by this drama and kept researching it ever since it became known.
My tentative explanation, submitted to take into account the underground water’s power of buoyancy, even though the structure base was put below the waterbed. The structure floated until enough load was mounted. The proper construction method therefore should have involved artificial precipitation until the completion of structure.
Upon graduation in , I joined the Beijing Biggest Co., one of the four largest construction companies in China, and immediately took on management duties as an assistant manger at the construction site. I have supervised steel engineering, concrete engineering and platform engineering for there twenty-three story buildings in the Beijing DD residential area, a total of 60,000 square meters in apartments. In this capacity, I was compelled to learn management skills which had never been taught in the classroom. Although construction management is not what I foresee to be a lifetime pursuit, I executed my duty meticulously and creatively. I became the first construction site manager in the company to conduct experiments comparing box-weir maintenance and the traditional manual watering method. By using box-weir method, weak concrete and cracks in the concrete were eliminated. Through these important, albeit small, steps of improvement, I have derived immense satisfaction.
My vigorous academic training and exposure to intricate design problems and complex construction management issues has stood me in good stead professionally compared to my peers. My plan to further my career through advanced studies stems from self-confidence in my academic calibre and also a strong desire to solve design and construction problems encountered at work. I have researched your program based on the materials I have available to me and decided that advanced studies under your seasoned guidance will be a shortcut for me to reach my goal. I request that you give my application for admission and financial support favourable consideration.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

After eventually gaining a Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Science, this will also enable me in furthering my degree by doing Biomedical Engineering because I find the joining of engineering and life facinating. Both of this courses strongly appeal to me. Not only will both of this courses help me in the way of possibly completing my goal, I believeit will also help me as a person.
In my spare time I enjoy reading a good medical mystery noval, drawing whatever I can, I play sports like basketball, football and a bit of tennis now and then.Even though some of my spare time activities do not deal with my course am ready to learn. At being social I would say am average. At times I do visit museums with my sister so as to get a feel of science.
In conclusion, I would like to say I am a very ambitious, highly movtivated and enthusiastic person. Am ready for the challenges that are awaiting for me in university. I have the ability to succeed and strive for excellence in everthing I do. Am loking forward to studying this career fulfuliment degree which will enable me to achieve my goal that I know will have an impact on the world.
Yours sincerely,

当前的485技术研究生签证将不再存在,由PSW(Post Study Work visa)取而代之,即毕业生工作签证。

Dear _,
My four-year research experience since the completion of my undergraduate program in has helped me to develop from a Bachelor in Engineering to a Master in Science. My research activities cover a wide range of fields including analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic catalysis, environmental science, instrumental analysis, nano-analytical chemistry, and biological analytical chemistry. I am proud to say that I have accomplished achievements in almost every of those fields. Based on my research findings, I have published a dozen research papers. In particular, I have received patents from the Patent Office of China for two major research results “The Preparation Method of a Solid Acid Catalyst with High Selectivity and Activity for Esterification” and “A New Reaction Technology and the Equipment for Gas Phase Esterification”. Both of them have significant value in industrial application.
Nevertheless, I am acutely aware that, in the research fields I am interested in, there are still so many difficult subjects and challenges awaiting for solution. In physical chemistry, China is relatively backward in the fields of catalyst development, catalyst inactivation, reaction dynamics, reaction mechanism, geochemical reaction mechanism, environmental-chemical reaction mechanism. In analytical chemistry, China lags relatively behind its Western counterparts in areas such as instrumental analysis and theoretical analytical chemistry. Basically, China relies on import for large-scale analytical instruments. By contrast, the United States has many world-leading academic specialists and encourages interdisciplinary programs. It will accord me a stimulating and liberal academic environment, apart from the sophisticated research facilities. Rice University is my top priority in applying for a Ph.D. program and I choose to specialize in physical chemistry or in analytical chemistry.
At Rice University, I plan to learn broader-based foundational theories in my chosen fields. With my solid interdisciplinary knowledge and my ability for the quick assimilation of new knowledge, I intend to secure for myself a RA status to directly start my laboratory research under the guidance of my future advisor. I can also work as TA so that I can study while teaching and conducting my internship. I can apply, test and consolidate the theoretical knowledge that I acquire in the process of internship and degree program. Finally, through theoretical study and scientific research, I would endeavor to produce a well-written dissertation in which I hope to achieve some breakthroughs on both the theoretical and the research level.
After obtaining my Ph.D. degree, I intend to enter one of the top research institutes to delve deeper into some challenging subjects and to achieve some research fruits. After accumulating certain research experience at an actual research institute, I plan to return to China to work as a professor at a leading Chinese university, a position which will enable me to train many more academic professionals in physical or analytical chemistry. At the same time, I will also dedicate myself to turning my laboratory research results into yet more patents and inventions, which can further be developed into products with pragmatic applications.
During my studies in the United States, I will attempt at some detailed observations of its capital market, the most mature of its kind in the world, to acquire some necessary knowledge in company management and capital operation. For ultimately my career objective is to establish my own company to manufacture my own products, especially those environmentally-friendly chemical products, based on my patents and inventions.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

2.K-Mart
3.tram

Dear _,
A Master’s student of accounting at Xiamen University, the best higher-learning institution in China’s strategically important Province of Fujian, across the Straits from Taiwan, I would like to pursue Ph. D. studies in your distinguished program so that I can be assured a teaching career in my motherland.
My education so far is characterized by indisputable excellence. During the four years of my undergraduate studies, my GPA was consistently the highest in my class of 135 students. As you can see from the transcripts of my academic record, I received straight A’s for all the courses except for first-year Physical Education. My graduation was rated “Outstanding”, the highest rating possible. An in-depth analysis of the ethical standards of Chinese auditors, the paper was later published in a quality professional journal as a seminal study of a rarely studied topic in China. As the unquestionably best student in my year, I was accepted into graduate studies by the university without the normally mandatory entrance examinations.
In recognition of my academic performance and other strengths, I was decorated with many honors and accolades during my undergraduate studies. I was elected the monitor of the class and the Vice President of the university’s Student Union, making me the most important female student leader on campus. Among the financial awards I won was the Jiageng Scholarship, the university’s most prestigious award named after its founder Chen Jiageng, one of the best known patriotic Chinese in the first half of this century. The Jiageng /scholarship is offered to only ten students each year, and the offer is usually presented to the recipients by the university’s president in person in a grand ceremony, as it was in , when I got it.
In my undergraduate studies, I had broad academic interests, although I majored in accounting. I regularly read academic journals, both Chinese and international, to keep me abreast of the latest developments in accounting and other related fields. I devoted considerable time to learning such subjects as law and economics. My extensive knowledge provided me solid grounding as I narrowed down my research interest to professional ethics of accountants. In a country that has only an inchoate legal regime governing professional practice. Enforcing high ethical standards is both difficult and critical. But studies have been scant and haphazard so far. I am glad that I have made quite some contribution to the country’s discourse in this area.
My undergraduate studies were greatly enriched with a most rewarding internship program. As a CPA assistant working for the Accounting Firm affiliated to the university, I took part in the auditing of several major corporations. In the process, I learned not only to put my book knowledge in practice but also acquired first-hand knowledge of how Chinese accountants, operating under inadequate laws and regulations, handled difficult issues. Such knowledge has constituted an important part of the basis for my research on the ethical questions of Chinese accountants and auditors.
In my graduate studies, I have broadened my intellectual horizon and refined my accounting expertise. The courses I took related to both theories and methodologies of accounting and auditing. But the more significant part of my learning is to be found perhaps not in the courses but in the research projects that I have taken part in together with my professors. I have, for example, helped my professors in compiling and editing a major textbook for the continuing education program of the ALL-China Association of Certified Accountants. The book, Cases of Auditing, has just been published and is expected to substantiate the curriculum of the continuing education program.
In my Ph. D. studies, I wish to focus my studies and research on auditing, particularly in relation to audit risk, auditor’s decision-making, ethics of auditing. I am also interested in accounting theories. I heard of Penn State University while I was still an undergraduate student, and I know that its accounting program is marked by selectivity and excellence. I hope that, by studying in your program, I will be able to build on my academic record so far for a promising career as a teacher in China a few years down the road.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
“Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow.” These are the lines I recite to myself, whenever I formulate a major objective in my life. Cherishing the desire to fully realize my self-fulfillment, I have always hoped that my life will consist of materializing a succession of aspirations and ideals.
Our dreams are the impetus that drives us to make progress. If we liken ourselves to planes, our dreams are the maintenance and fuel that drive us forward to reach our goals. Some planes may never have flied, while others may have landed in many places. It all depends on their goals and jet fuel supplement. Therefore, it is of great importance to set goals in life first and then find the best place to replenish enough fuel supplements.
Proud of having more English learners than any other country in the world, China has a more demand for English experts since its entry into the WTO. As an English teacher who has worked in this field for over three years, I have a clear vision of the future of English teaching in China, and I am determined to scale a higher height in English in a more advanced country which is rich in jet fuel. I am ready to take off.
During my undergraduate study, I majored in Marketing, and benefited a lot from the multicultural environment at Beijing International Studies University, where I was able to excel both academically and personally. Our school attaches great importance to cultivating students in a practical way. We were required not only to lay a solid foundation in our major coursework, but also to have a good command of English so as to meet the demands of society. Within such a nourishing atmosphere, I developed myself in a comprehensive way. Apart from my major coursework study, I nurtured my gift for English and spent most of my spare time teaching English to others. I worked as a part-time English teacher at Li Yang Crazy English training school and as an English tutor to middle school students and adults. My interest and ability in English grew in this process.
I was recruited by Beijing Bayi Middle School to teach English after my graduation. In order to enrich my experience,I studied by myself the educational psychology in my spare time. I also did some research work comparing American and Chinese education. I found that Chinese students and teachers are superior to the Americans in knowledge accumulation, but we are inferior to Americans in potential, because the American teachers have been exerting significant importance on the students’ psychology while nearly 2/3 Chinese teachers are poor in this aspect. Realizing such a problem in Chinese way of teaching, I have perfected my teaching in daily life. For example, I often praised my students in class no matter how simple the questions were; I adopted the “portfolio system “in class especially for those from poor families or single-parent families to “talk” with them in a more informal way; I encouraged the students who lagged behind with the method of “yes-right hand and no-left hand” that is, if he or she knew the answer, then they put his or her right hand up, vice verse…To my delight, my endeavor paid in the end : nearly all of my students gradually became more confident and like English more and more. Through the familiarity with my students, I also gradually realized that an English teacher is more like a helper to deliver the kernel of Western culture to cultivate the students’ characteristics than a person just imparting the knowledge.
In , I helped to found the “Chinese University Alliance Education Training Company” with my partner Wang Nuoda, a Lecturer of Communication University of China. We are eager to help those students who have passion in learning English while lack in methods. Besides teaching the students, I also did some training work to the new employees, introducing them how to lead-in, how to make the boring grammar more vivid, how to make the students more interested in the class by using the PPT and real materials.
However, there are still things that make me confused. In China, parents treat their children’s education very seriously. In recent years, with China’s rapid development and the trend of globalization, parents have put more emphasis on their children’s education in English - the universal language. Children are exposed to English on the day they start kindergarten. Some poorer parents even lead a bitter life to save money so that their children can attend an English training program after class. However, such “English fever”, to some extent, speeds up polarization of students’ English level, and more seriously, many students’ “hate” English from a young age.
So, How to deal with this problem? I have been asking myself this question, and have found the answer in myself. What I have mastered is far from enough for me to figure out the best way to teach English. In addition, I think that I need to improve myself in a comprehensive manner, not only in academic field but also in personality. As we know, teachers are called the engineer of people’s soul. So they must cultivate themselves both morally and professionally. With a devoted heart to English education, I am determined to quit my present job and add some jet fuel so that I can fly higher and further and finally land at my designated destination.
As we know, the United States enjoys a high reputation in the theoretical research and practice of TESOL. In my future study, I intend to learn the theory of TESOL and English teaching methodology, i.e. how a teacher deals with the problems found in the students and helps them achieve good study results. Moreover, my study in your esteemed university will get me further acquainted with the language and culture, communicate with the native-speakers and improve my English ability in a comprehensive manner.
After finishing my Master’s program, I intend to continue my English teaching at a top university in China, to contribute what I have learned to those who need my help. Besides, I will be actively engaged in searching for English studying methods that best suit the Chinese people, so as to turn out more students with a skilled mastery of English that are required on China’s market.
Your University is like an advanced airport that provides high quality maintenance and jet fuel, and where I can land and from where I can fly further. I have heard the call: “Yan Huijin’s flight is about to take off” and “Yan Huijin’s flight is about to land at…“ I am convinced that I can reach my destination. I can make it. My dream will come true.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
I intend to continue the study of History at university. As a subject I have been interested in since childhood, I enjoy studying the past and how it has shaped our future. The study of History allows us to view the mistakes and successes of the past and employ them to the future. a??History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. (McCullough) History allows society to form an identity and to advance through learned tolerance and understanding.Last year in AS History I studied he unification of Italy which was key in my understanding of history. It was fascinating to explore how Italy came together as one country from several states and to discuss whether Italy would have formed alone or whether in required to push from those such as Garibaldi or Cavour.
Having spent many years studying modern history and decided to take it upon myself to expand my knowledge into ancient history. Earlier this year I read a book called Cleopatra by Lucy Hughes- Hallet. It was interesting to read about such a famous and influential woman of history from another womans perspective. Often Cleopatra is portrayed as femme fatale- as in the portrait by John William Waterhouse or Shakespeare who said a??other women cloy the appetites they feed: but she makes hungry, where most she satisfies.
She is often seen by historians as a seductive, potentially poisonous temptress, however this is not necessarily how Hughes-Hallet interprets her; to her she is plainer, more ambitious and less cruel. I think it is difficult to separate fact from fiction when it comes to ancient history and especially in this case someone as constantly redesigned as Cleopatra.
History has taught me to make substantiated judgments and to interpret and analyse external material as well as my own opinions. I find History intriguing because it gives me the opportunity to study the development of human society over a long-term. My inquisitive mind has further contributed to my enthusiasm for the subject and I enjoy working independently. But all three of my subjects have honed my writing skills, to be able to select and organise knowledge and communicate it coherently and concisely. More specifically, Sociology has been helpful in discerning social trends, and understanding something of the human psyche; and English Literature allows me to study works, in context. All these skills will enable me to read History at university.
I enjoy visiting museums and monuments of history when I have the opportunity. I particularly love the trench experience at the Imperial War Museum and more ancient history- such as the ancient human occupation of Britain - at the National History Museum.
I work well within a team, but also have the necessary attributes to lead if I am called upon, demonstrated in my active participation in my school's Charities Committee for the past six years, organising various charity events throughout the school. My work as secretary of the Charities Committee allows me to represent the school in the community and has taught me management and organisation skills. In school I have also been a keen participant in the orchestra in which I am lead violinist in school and also play for the borough. I have been involved in several school plays either back stage, in the orchestra or as part of the cast. I have also been involved in numerous school sports teams, including the netball and athletics teams. I am a naturally cheerful person who has a positive outlook on life, but with the maturity necessary for university, and as such, I feel that I am fully prepared for the academic step up to degree level. I greatly anticipating the opportunity not only to go to university, but specifically to read History as I know it will provide me with vital life skills, as well as giving me access to a potentially wide and varied career within the specialty.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
In connection with my application for acceptance into your Ph.D. program, I am enclosing the following statement concerning my life, professional activities, and tentative future plans.
I was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province in China on November 8, 1969. Later, my family moved to Beijing where I grew up. I am from a family of academics. My father is a professor of linguistics and Chief of the University Journal Agency of Beijing Language and Culture University (formerly Beijing Language Institute). My mother is a professor at the same university and teaches Chinese as a foreign language. From 1991 to 1993, my mother taught Chinese at Wittenberg University, Ohio and Indiana University at Bloomington. She encouraged me to apply for admission to advanced programs in the U.S.
I graduated from high school in 1988, and received the highest scores in my school at the National Entrance Examination for Universities. This made me an “Honor Student” at the national level. Upon acceptance to Beijing Language and Culture University, my major became English, with minors in linguistics, French and computer science. I was awarded consecutive scholarships for all four years in college. During my college years, I became more and more interested in linguistics. My senior year was largely devoted to topics in linguistics, and my required thesis work focused on the influence of cultural and educational factors upon the Chinese and English languages.
After college, Beijing Science & Technology University employed me. For the first year and a half I was assigned to a project aimed at creating improved computer program for idiomatic English-Chinese & Chinese-English translations. This project proved me with considerable experience linguistics, and further improved my understanding of the subtleties of both English and Chinese.
Since the project completion, I have been teaching intensive English courses at Beijing Science and Technology University. Since July of 1993, I have taught English listening comprehension at Beijing Language and Culture University. The latter classes are part of a program that provides adult Chinese professionals with opportunity to improve their English.
My interest in linguistics is initially based on my desire to better comprehend the English language, and, in the process, learn more about my own language. China is now opening and engaging in ever expanding cultural and financial relations with the English-speaking countries of the West. It has struck me, as it may have occurred to many of my compatriots that negotiations to bring about these new and improved relations sometimes break down because of mutual ignorance about each other’s languages. I am aware that this has been a popular problem for study, among Americans engaging in business and other fields, but I am not aware of any serious attempt to research this problem from a Chinese point of view.
Through my work in the U.S., I would hope to contribute to a better understanding of the problems inherent in the deep differences between the two languages.
I recognize that a thesis project in most graduate schools is chosen after on has studied in various programs in a department and after extensive discussion with one’s professors. Nevertheless, I would hope that investigating socio-cultural differences between English and Chinese might be considered a suitable topic. Such a study would focus on the cultural, historical, traditional and educational factors, which influence the two languages, and significantly contribute to possible misinterpretations.
My long-term plan is to continue working on comparative aspects of English and Chinese linguistics. I strongly desire to work in an academic environment combining teaching, research and writing.
I heard that your English/Linguistics Department has a reputation for academic excellence. I am applying to your program because I desire the best education possible for my professional career.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila
Alevel,IB,SAT,AP,ACT

Dear _,
Introduction and Undergraduate Background
As an applicant to Carnegie Mellon University's doctoral program in Computer Science, I am very glad to have an opportunity in introducing my study objectives to you.
I received a B.S. degree from Yeungnam University, which is considered to be among the best engineering schools in South Korea, in February . I majored in Computer Engineering. Throughout four undergraduate courses, I completed the several fundamental courses related to both software and hardware areas of research. The courses were as follows: Operating Systems, Data Structures, Numerical Analysis, Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics, Compilers, Software Engineering, Programming Languages and Practice, DBMS, System Programming and Practice, Data Communication, Digital Logic Design, Microprocessor Laboratory and VLSI System Design. Moreover, as a term project, I designed an 8-Bit microprocessor.
Work Experiences
My work experience started in 1996. I was employed at the Business Communication R&D group in Samsung Electronics company. Samsung is one of the top research & development company in several business areas in South Korea, and in the telecommunications and semiconductor sectors in the international economy. I was assigned to the Business Communication Developing team at Samsung and developed DBMS of the digital Keyphone switching system. Due to the characteristics of the Keyphone exchange system, we did not use a commercial DBMS product. I developed a DBMS product, using HP UNIX and C languages in two years and six months. The management's strategy at Samsung Electronics was in supporting wireless telecommunications technology as one of major information & communication business areas. I was selected as one of the most qualified engineers to join the Wireless Communication Development group in July .
The wireless team was developing CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) cellular phones. I was assigned to the GSM team. My job was developing a GSM cellular phone, which used satellite communications technology. As a preceding project of developing a cellular telephone that uses satellite telecommunication technology, we developed GSM/DCS dual band cellular telephone (SGH-2200). In this project, I developed a MMI (Man Machine Interfaces) of SGH-2200 using Visual Basic for the menu frame and Borland C++ for the main modules. I also developed a GINI debugging tool that analyzed the content of signals between phone and base stations in a GSM network. Moreover, I went on business trips to Europe to test our product in the field where service providers operate GSM networks, and on these business trips, I acquired practical experience in the field.
While developing telecommunication network systems in several countries, I was strongly motivated in applying both theory and practice in research. For example, I learned about the relevant theories in university and acquired the professional and technical skills in designing and implementing products in the field. While doing so, I realized that I wanted to increase and deepen my knowledge in computer science. Therefore, I decided to leave Samsung in August and work as a researcher at the KwangJu Institute of Science and Technology (K-JIST).
Graduate Studies
In September 1999, I was enrolled in graduate courses as a full time student at K-JIST. K-JIST is a fully government supported research institute of higher education and a cutting edge of research center in South Korea. K-JIST is a leading research institute of higher education for the following reasons. The ratio of students to professors is 5:1; Graduate students are few in number and high in international academic standards Research is conducted in conjunction with industrial and governmental support and acts as a catalyst in the technology transfer process.
Since the medium of instruction at K-JIST is English, and we study with both international students and faculty, I enhanced my English writing and conversation skills. I completed both intermediate and advanced technical writing and English conversation courses. English skills specific to professional communications and science and technical subjects were acquired in
K-JIST 's English for Science and Technology (EST) language program.
My academic interests were distributed systems and mobile software agent. I completed related courses such as Advanced Discrete Mathematics, Distributed Algorithms, Distributed and Parallel Computing, Database Design, Selected Topics on Distributed Systems, Concurrent System Theory. I received both praise and strong support from my professors in these areas of research.
Research and Project Experience
My research interests are designing distributed systems and mobile software agents. For example, I was assigned to do a project in designing and implementing a mobile agent system. The project was one of the projects of KOSEF (Korea Science and Engineering Foundation) and it was entitled “X-MAS: Mobile Agent Platform for Workflow systems” (July 1998). I designed and implemented an inter-agent communication infrastructure using Java software. After that, I wrote a thesis about my research result and it was entitled “Design of Inter-Agent Communication Infrastructure for Agent-based Workflow System” (April ). The thesis was accepted by KIPS (Korea Information Processing Society) in a Spring Conference (April 2000) and I received the top award.
Research Interests and Specific Goal
After considering my interests and reviewing all information about departments of compute science in several universities, I decided to apply to Carnegie Mellon University's doctoral program leading to a Ph.D. degree at Carnegie Mellon University. Professor M. Satyanarayanan's current research interests and projects are very likely to meet my expectations regarding a Ph.D. research project.
My research interests are as follows:
1) Mobility and Scalability in distributed systems
2) Reliable distributed file system
3) High-performance distributed computing
As a computer engineer, I have a strong background in computer science, professional and technical skills in programming and about four year's development experiences in the field. As a researcher, I have a strong theory base in distributed systems and project experiences in design and implementation of mobile agent systems. I am familiar with all the fundamentals and practical experiences in my research field.
What I hope to gain from doctoral studies at Carnegie Mellon University is an acquisition of advanced knowledge and the ability to carry out independent research. Upon completion of my Ph.D. degree, I will seek to pursue my studies with the aim of applying my knowledge towards the solution of specific problems in the field of distributed systems at Carnegie Mellon University, or another research institute. It is my hope that my participation in relevant research projects will contribute in the development of new and signicant knowledge in the field of information and communications technology.
I appreciate your attention and consideration in reading this statement.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila
Dear _,
An experienced engineer of security printing with China’s Central Bank, I now would like to scale higher intellectual heights by pursuing Ph. D. studies in mechanical engineering at your university. I believe that my strong background in CAD has adequately prepared me to embark on this endeavor.
I have been working since 1996 for the People’s Bank of China, a Chinese version of the Federal Reserve, at its unique research institute of security printing, with the responsibility of designing the Chinese currency and the machinery to produce it. By engaging me in a variety of projects, the job afforded me ample exposure to cutting-edge developments in computer technologies, particularly in CAD software. I have, for example, recently redeveloped a purchased CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to make it more suitable for our own purposes. By adding our own part/subassembly to the database and make our own drawing criteria, we have achieved dramatically better efficiency.
My job performance, which has won me professional respect from all of my colleagues, was achieved thanks to the strong background I acquired as a student in computer science. My undergraduate GPA ranked first among the 63 students of classmates in mechanical department, for which I was awarded first-class and second-class prizes many times. My graduate GPA ranked among the top 4% of the 105 students in my year, which won me the “San Hao” scholarship every year during the three years of my graduate studies.
Unlike many other Chinese students, who are content with performing well in exams, I made a point of learning through my own hands-on experiences. In the Master’s program at the Beijing Institute of Printing, I gained an in-depth understanding of artificial intelligence, including expert system and genetic algorithm, especially in neural network. For my thesis, I programmed a multi-level BP neural network with C language to analyze my mathematical model, and applied much of my knowledge in optimization. I thus became able to program with a host of different computer languages, especially C++, with which I helped my graduate advisor to design a paper-cutting machine. To analyze the mechanism statically and dynamically, I programmed a software system to analyze and emulate it on screen. In undergraduate studies, I had often programmed with Fortran77 and the Basic language.
Upon the completion of my Master’s studies, I easily passed the doctoral record examination in CAD/CAM of Beijing University, one f the top universities in China. But I gave up the opportunity in order to gain more practical experience in the industry. The decision proved to be right, as it guaranteed me better access to sophisticated facilities, such as state-of-the-art personal computers. With the People’s Bank of China, I have thus accumulated solid expertise in many kinds of operating and application software systems, particularly in CAD. I now have a firm grip on the latest developments in computer science in China.
The challenges I met and the successes I achieved at the People’s Bank have not only endowed me with confidence but also fired off my desire to further improve myself. I have enjoyed high-quality and efficient production with the use of a kind of PC-based CAD software, MDT, developed by Autodesk Corporation. I now have a dream: some day, every person can design his favorite product with some sort of CAD software, and then search for an ideal factory over high-speed internet its production; and the factory will put specifications of the product, as it has received them via the high-speed internet into its CIMS, and out pops the product, as designed, at the end of the factory’s production line. It is a beautiful dream for every engineer, but many difficulties the speed of data-transfer and how to manage the product data among CAD, CAM, CAPP and CAE systems. These questions are fascinating, and I would like to come up with my own answers to them.
To prepare myself for advanced studies in your country, I have persisted in improving my English proficiency. As demonstrated by my score of 700 (96%) in the verbal section of GRE, I now have an adequate command of English for undertaking graduate studies in your program.
After carefully comparing the strengths of many universities, I find Mercy University particularly suited for my purpose. It has got the best combination of quality faculty, many state-of-the-art facilities, and an intriguing academic environment. Currently, China still lags significantly behind Western countries in mechanical engineering. I hope that, with a few years of graduate studies under your seasoned guidance, I will be able to return to my motherland and help bring mechanical engineering in my country to international standards.
Although my ultimate objective is a Ph. D. degree, I am willing to do a Master’s degree if necessary. In either case, I would like to concentrate my studies in one or a combination of the following areas: CAD, CAM, CIMS, Computer graphics, Mechanical design, Mechanical manufacturing, Optimization, Artificial intelligence, and Robotics. Your favorable evaluation of my application will be highly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

澳大利亚的评分系统不同于中国,优秀是HD,接下来是D、C,及格是P(Pass),挂科没通过是F(Failure)/N(NoComment)。
