留学必备优秀英文申请书
Dear _,
I am applying to study a business degree, specialising in Human resource Management (HRM) because I have undertaken paid work since my 13th birthday and have not stopped, having fulfilled a number of roles, in a number of employment places. The world of business has always intrigued me; being given the opportunity to study Business Studies at A-level then confirmed my idea of pursuing a career in business. I am looking forward to learning from a wide range of modules the breadth of areas associated with running businesses such as ethics, entrepreneurship and business analysis. I have been interested in learning about leadership styles on my current Business course, as well as market segmentations, and finance. I love the way that numeracy, literacy and ICT skills are utilised in practice-based scenarios and problem-solving in the study of Business, preparing me for pursuing a successful career. I look forward to deepening my understanding of budgeting, project management, time-management and theoretical knowledge of organisations and the behaviour of those who inhabit them. I am keen to learn more about the legal and economic side of Business. Being absorbed in this wealth of learning will enable me to create my own brand in terms of employability, as I realise that businesses occupy economic, political and social spaces that interact in a complex web competitively, on the global stage.
My current studies have developed transferable knowledge and skills in preparation for further education. Sociology has contributed to my knowledge of issues around equal opportunities e.g. with sexism, racism and ageism in the workplace. Sociological knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods has provided me with grounding in conducting e.g. training needs analyses and employee feedback research. I am able to critically analyse evidence, assess the reliability and validity of data and draw trustworthy conclusions. English Literature has equipped me with literacy techniques, a high standard of written English and the ability to critique texts. Business Studies has given me an insight into the real world of Business by shaping my understanding of how consumers work, how a business runs and more importantly how to generate profit. The business world is a rapidly changing global technological environment that I am fascinated by and I want to enhance my communication skills and creative solution based thinking. The psychology of organisations also fascinates me, and is an area I would like to build on.
My employers have found me highly reliable, a hard worker and able to work with a close team of people. At one company, I was given managerial responsibilities, supervising a team of five staff in the busy summer months at a seaside resort. I dealt with customer complaints, reconciled tills, ordered stock, and made sure the business was working at a high standard. This gave me a true taste and experience of being in authority. Having worked in a range of different companies, I have experienced how different organisations operate; this has given me a varied perspective of approaches in different businesses, in terms of management styles and differences in company ethos.
I want to study Business because in the future I aim to be an independent woman, in charge of my own destiny. My keen interest in Business is demonstrated by my voluntary work helping in Year 10 Business classes at College. The Business Faculty awarded me as their ‘Student Ambassador’; where I help with events such as open evenings and mentoring in Business classes. My desire to learn new things and work out of my comfort zone is illustrated by me currently working towards a First Aid qualification; testing myself with new experiences excites me. I am ready for this challenge in my life, and know that I will work hard, thrive and develop as a result of undertaking a degree in Business and Management, as well as contribute and give back to my University community.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
Graphic Design is always around us, and learning how to communicate in a visual manner has inspired me to learn more about the subject. The words ‘create’ and ‘design’ have always sparked a sense of enthusiasm and excitement within me. From an early age I have always had a creative characteristic which I feel is my most dominant. For many years I have enjoyed designing logos, packaging and coming up with creative campaign concepts. Since learning that Graphic Design is something that I’m driven towards I have gained an interest and spectrum of knowledge about graphic designers such as Milton Glaser, Herb Lubalin and Paul Rand. Their works have inspired me to develop my own skills and have given me an insight as to how to establish a creative mind-set.
Working within the Communications and PR, Film and Graphic Design Departments at Imperial College whilst on work experience, I was able to explore different ways of communicating through social media, film and print design. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Graphic Design team where I was able to see how various software’s were used to develop banners for the university fair.
During my placement I learnt how fundamental research is and how it is conducted during the whole design process. After the placement I was more decisive about wanting to delve into the world of Graphic Design, hence I set about finding a work placement that solely focused on Graphic Design. My second placement was at Virgin Media, where I worked with graphic designers and UX designers and was introduced to the field of digital design. I attended meetings where briefs were being discussed and was able to follow the journey of the graphic designers to witness how they went about delivering the brief; and helping design assets for the website. The placement allowed me to comprehend what digital design consisted of and learn about the works of alternative designers such as UX designers. My enthusiasm for Graphic Design made me want to expand my knowledge, hence I took a Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins. The course was completely different to my professional work placements. The course prohibited the use of computers and all artefacts were formulated from research trips and materials; making me realise the extent of graphic design. The manner in which I worked was refreshing from constantly collaborating with software. After the course I was able to understand that there are various methods of communicating which do not involve software. In my free time I self-teach myself Photoshop and Illustrator through tutorials. I also enjoy self-initiating briefs for myself, as well as briefs set by agencies such as D&AD, RSA and YCN which provide me with a creative challenge. For example I have ‘restyled street style’ for ASOS, which was a brief set by D&AD. I also voluntarily design logos for businesses, go to contemporary galleries, the Barbican Centre, research trips for my creative briefs and work on my briefs.
I also look forward to the annual London Design Week, where I have become educated about designers and new design processes and am able to draw inspiration upon. I have volunteered helping teach 6-9 year olds at my community art club, which I attended for 3 years. I have achieved the Bronze D of E, had a part time job for one year at a high end retail store and was part of my local netball club where I trained and competed. Completing these activities has enabled me develop a strong sense of co-operation, teamwork, good social skills and commitment which would greatly benefit me whilst studying a degree. I try to seek all possible opportunities to help me advance my skills in Graphic Design, and feel that having the opportunity to take my admiration of design to degree level would be extremely rewarding. I’m self-motivated and eager to start devoting my time and attention to Graphic Design, and am positive university will help me excel in what I like doing best.

Dear _,
Among the 26 English alphabets, the one I like most is the capitalized D because this alphabet, simple as it is, is the most beautiful one. The two strokes, one vertical line and one curve, adumbrate two totally divergent trajectories as if serving as constant indicator of the psyche of the professionals in the advertising industry: to travel from one point to another, there is an infinite number of routes to choose; but ultimately speaking, there are only two routes: one is along a straight line, the other along a curve. While the general public may opt for the first, advertising professionals should decide on the second. A curved trajectory may well enable one to expand his horizon, enrich his experience of life, and cultivate his capability for excellent interpersonal exchange and communication. I maintain the conviction that the longer the journey of life that one travels, the richer the experience one can derive from life and hence the greater the novelty that he can create out of the apparently commonplace.
In , I entered _ University with remarkable performance at the National College Entrance Examination (among the top 10 percent of the participants majoring in Humanities Disciplines). During the first year of my undergraduate studies, I majored in International Law but it immediately dawned on me that I was not meant for studies in this field and my real interest lied in advertising. Therefore, with extra efforts I audited all the major courses in advertising and in the second year, with a solid command of all the theoretical knowledge of the basic courses, I transferred to Advertising Speciality. Once I embarked on studying what really interested me, I made rapid progress and my GPA reached 3.5 (among the top three for 26 students of my class). In addition, I achieved the highest score of the class in four most important courses in the field: History of Chinese and Foreign Advertising, Principles of Advertising, Advertisement Planning, and Mass Communication.
As I delved deeper into my subject, I came to acquire an increasingly profound understanding of the nature of advertising. As a matter of fact, advertising is an art of persuasion, concerned with how the advertiser can influence the behavior and value orientation of the general public with his individually unique mentality and perspective. It is an integral branch of mass communication, inextricably intertwined with both art and economics. At the same time, it requires a framework of scientific management. In the course of my studies, I learned to exploit another form of language, my advertising designs, to conduct dialogues with my audience and to convey through those work my ideas and perceptions in order to achieve the objective of affecting the recipients' psychology and conduct and realizing the value of communication. But I ventured beyond the mere designing of individual advertisements. I also attempted at a series of coordination work that included the planning, execution, solution and effect of advertising. This process helped me to perfect my framework of theoretical conceptions concerning such notions as personal communication, interpersonal communication and mass communication. I immersed myself in a wide variety of advertising courses. By studying advertising, I could feel the joy of thinking and the charm of knowledge.
Advertising is an art more to be practiced than theorized. For my extra-curricular practice, I worked part-time for the WuHan Silver-Horse Advertising Corporation, an advertising agency which enjoys very prestigious reputation in and around WuHan. After being subjected to the most rigorous screening test, I was recruited as one of the five undergraduate students from my university and worked on several projects under the direct leadership of the chief supervisor of the Planning Department. On account of my distinctive notion and original creativity, my design for an advertisement for an automobile maintenance center was adopted, a fact which adequately evinces my professional qualities and tremendous potential. Later, with strong recommendations from my teacher, I worked at a medium-size advertising company in Beijing, responsible for the advertising agent business in the magazine Global Weekly. With the company's support, I participated in a number of designing contests ranging from the 10th Golden Calf Advertising Contest sponsored by the Taiwan's China Times, the 2nd Academy Advertising Competition sponsored by China Advertising Association to the Annual CAC Public Welfare Advertising Competition sponsored by the publishing house of International Advertising Magazine. My participation in those events not only brought me important awards but also enabled me to derive much professional knowledge from the exchange and cooperation with other staff, apart from enhancing my hands-on ability and practical problem-solving skills.
I took part consecutively in two authoritative Competitions for Young Advertisers, which aroused my attention to the discrepancies in the advertising level and the advertising consciousness between Taiwan and mainland China as well as the disparity in the advertising management. In order to call the serious attention of China's advertising industry to those problems, I published a full-length academic paper entitled On the Eve of WTO Accession: A Perspective on the Present Conditions of Advertising Management on Mainland China on the website of China Advertising Communication and Research (this website is launched by XiaMen University, the first university in China to have established an Advertising Department and which enjoys a very high academic prestige).
Historically speaking, China's advertising industry can only be described as underdeveloped compared with that of the advanced Western countries. Although China's advertising industry is achieving remarkable development around the turn of the century, challenges and obstacles are equally serious. For instance, the relationship between the client, the media and the advertising company has not been properly established. The advertising agent system and the relevant legal regulations of advertising are not fully developed. The awareness of self-discipline is weak within this profession and a sound system of social supervision over unlawful advertising practices is lacking.
With China's immediate accession into WTO, China's overall advertising industry will face severe challenges presented by major international advertising agencies. On the other hand, China promises a bright and alluring prospect in advertising industry as China has the largest advertising market among the developing countries. The profit of the advertising industry maintains an annual growth rate of 39.73. Such a growth momentum is sufficient to indicate the tremendous dimension and the exciting prospect of China's future advertising industry. This situation necessarily calls for the emergence of a large number of highly qualified advertising professionals, especially those who can incorporate both their intimate knowledge of China's domestic advertising market and international advertising background.
It is precisely against this backdrop that I, equipped with a solid groundwork (at once theoretical and empirical) in the field of advertising acquired from my undergraduate education, wish to apply for a graduate program. My motivation is fairly simple: only the United States, a country with the most unparalleled development in advertising industry and the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in mass communication of which advertising is a part, can offer the necessary environment in which I can mature toward my professional goals.
Now that I have charted my course of action, I am on the verge of proceeding from one point of my life to another point. To return to my metaphor of the alphabet D, I have decided to relinquish the effortless straight line in favor of the beautiful curve, for I believe that whatever the turns and twists alongside it, it will ultimately lead to my prescribed ideal. The profound truth inherent in it has already been given the most poetical pronunciation by the poet Robert Frost at the conclusion of his The Road Not Taken: Two roads diverged in the wood, and I - / I took the one less traveled by / And that has made all the difference.
Yours sincerely,

Dear x,
It is my conviction that the meaning of life does not dwell in the lengthof time that one can live or the material abundance that one can acquire, but inthe richness and the wonderfulness of life itself. With the increase of my age, many things in my life have changed. But one thing remains constant, that is, Iwill consistently insist on doing what I like to do and hope that my endeavorscan be valuable to the life of others. I see this as the only way whereby I canrealize the value of my life.
My undergraduate study focused on economics and I achieved remarkablescholastic performance in this field. My GPA is 3.44 (my GRE score is 20xx andTOEFL---- ). For four consecutive years of my undergraduate study, I receivedscholarships for my distinguished academic performance. Due to my equallyprominent performance in extracurricular activities I was conferred on theOutstanding Student in Campus Activities. However, honestly speaking, my realinterest lies not in economics, but in education. Ever since I was a primaryschool student, I had cherished a strong desire for a teaching careerexemplified by my teachers. In the actual teaching career that I embarked onupon my graduating from university, I have become increasingly aware that theexisting educational conditions in China are far from satisfactory. The backwardteaching methodology and the prevailing pedagogical ideology have renderedChinese education out of place with the modern international development ineducation. On the macro level, the current education theory and practice inChina lag significantly behind advanced countries in the West. For instance, though education via the internet has achieved considerable development in pasttwo years, in practical operation such education has more often than notdeteriorated into an extended form of the conventional examination-orientededucation instead of a really interactive process. In my personal experience, despite the fact that some of the problems that I have encountered in myteaching career can be solved by consulting relevant technical literature, Ihave found that the more serious flaws inherent in China's current educationalsystem cannot be worked out easily. Under such circumstances, an advancedprogram in education becomes necessary.
In this age of information, traditional education, both in its ideology andmethodology, has met unprecedented challenge like many other aspects of humanexistence. Meanwhile, the pursuit for higher levels of educational developmentand of the quality of life has largely transformed the educational valueorientation of the general public. The educational model that is centered aroundthe cognitive and intellectual instruction has been seriously questioned.Greater attention has been devoted to the cultivation of well-developedpersonality and to the ontological status of the individual in education. Suchissues as the internal studies of education science, scientific decision-makingin education, and meta-education have also been increasingly emphasized upon. There have also been innovations in educational research methodology. Thetendency has been to combine modern technology with humanistic researchcategories and with naturalistic research categories, and to organicallyintegrate qualitative descriptions with quantitative descriptions. It is alsoimportant to carry out educational experimentations in which educationalpredictions are complemented by educational feedbacks. Both the complexity ofeducation and the complexity of human individuals have made the comprehensiveapplication of diverse educational approaches necessary. Those new horizons arewhat fascinate me.
In view of the following qualifications that I have acquired, I believethat I will acquit myself satisfactorily in the prospective Ph.D. program ineducation that I am currently endeavoring to apply for. First and foremost, asis often claimed, one's interest is one's best director. I believe that I willdo well what I am really interested in doing. Secondly, though I majored ineconomics as an undergraduate, my trainings during that stage helped developeffective modes of thinking and research approaches. In addition, Iconscientiously self-studied many works related to education, including ADevelopmental History of Educational Science in the West, which enabled me toconstruct a solid groundwork for more advanced studies in this field. Next, itcan be safely asserted that education and economics are not entirely separated. For example, it is necessary to apply many statistical methods in educationalpsychology and my academic record indicates that statistics is the subject thatI am most good at. Last but not the least, my current teaching career and myteaching experience will play a positive role in facilitating my target degreeprogram.
The reason why I apply for the University of ------------ is that it is thefirst state university with a time-honored history. The School of Education inthis university is quite prominent among its counterparts in the field. I amparticularly attracted by the School's powerful pedagogical resource, vibrantintellectual atmosphere and a comprehensive curriculum. I plan to apply for adegree program in Instructional Technology or Educational Psychology, both ofwhich enjoy unparalleled academic reputation in the world. My application forInstructional Technology is motivated by my strong interest in the applicationof modern science and technology, especially the information technologyrepresented by the Internet, in the field of education and in the nature of aseries of revolutionary changes resulting thereof. Instructional Technology is anew discipline that has emerged as a result of the rapid development of moderncommunication technology since the late 20th century. It has tremendouspotential for development and commercial application. As for my motive inselecting Educational Psychology as another possible area of specialization inmy degree program, it is my long-cherished interest that primarily counts. Onthe other hand, all the accomplished educators since the 1960's have beenwell-versed in psychology. Almost every important new educational theory isderived psychological findings in one way or another so that educationalpsychology has subsequently developed into a fundamental subject for the scienceof education. The tendency in the 21st century is to emphasize on the microresearch of educational activities and against this backdrop educationalpsychology will be attached greater importance. In Instructional Technology, Iwould like to focus on the following studies: how to improve educationalefficiency by applying research results from natural sciences and engineeringtechnology; how to explore the combination and coordination of pedagogicalcontents and to improve teaching methodology by exploiting the theoreticalfindings from psychology and educational science concerning the process ofteaching and learning. In Educational Psychology, I will concentrate on appliedcognition and development, gifted and creative education, genetics and childrendevelopment, personality structure and individual differences and other relatedsubjects.
For me, to shift from economics to education and to pursue an advanceddegree in the United States is not so much a challenge as an opportunity. Atpresent, major reforms are being introduced into virtually every importantaspect of Chinese society. The field of education especially calls forcomprehensive reforms. The United States occupies an absolutely leading positionin the present-day world in education. It is my conviction that, in the UnitedStates, advanced educational theories, technologies and information willfacilitate me immensely in the achievement of remarkable academic progress, fulfilling my aspiration to become an accomplished professional in the field ofeducation. This will not only bring my patriotic fervor into reality but alsomake my life more meaningful and rewarding.

Dear _,
Graphic Design is always around us, and learning how to communicate in a visual manner has inspired me to learn more about the subject.

Letters of recommendation are a very important part of the application process. As colleges become more and more sought out from the increasing number of applicants each year, the need to stand out from the competition is also increasing. Below we will provide helpful information on how to write a college recommendation as well as advice for tailoring each letter.
A high school transcript can help tell an admissions office a lot about a candidate, but a college recommendation letter provides an opportunity for them to see the whole person. While recommendation letters are never a bad idea to include in the application, even if the college does not require one, many colleges do necessitate the inclusion of one. Here is some advice to keep in mind when writing a college recommendation letter:
Know the candidate - it may sound obvious, but it is important that you know the candidate well. After all, how can you write a college recommendation letter for a someone you know little about? Recommendations written for candidates with a vague familiarity are often identifiable and can do more harm than good.
How you know the candidate - when you write a college recommendation letter, make sure to include how you know the candidate as well as the length of time you have known that person.
Provide relevant information - be sure to find out the purpose of the recommendation so as to provide relevant information about the candidate and his or her specific qualifications. If the recommendation is to supplement an application, discuss how that person is an appropriate candidate for the college he or she is applying to. Despite its purpose, however, the overall goal of a college recommendation letter is to attest to the capabilities and character of the candidate.
Obtain a rsum - another tip on how to write a collage recommendation letter is to first obtain the student's rsum with a listing of his or her GPA, activities, awards, leadership roles, community service, employment experience and special skills. The more information you have about a particular candidate, the more constructive your recommendation can be.
Personalize the letter - to help make the letter more personal, before writing a college recommendation letter, it is important to determine the person to whom the letter should be addressed. If the student is unaware of the name, the letter may begin “Dear Selection Committee.”
Proofread the letter - one of the most important tips on how to write a college recommendation letter is making sure to proofread it when finished. A letter containing grammatical errors will appear unprofessional and may leave a negative impression.
Mailing the letter - establish with the student whether the recommendation letter must be mailed in an official envelope from your institution, or if it can be included with the application. If it is to accompany the application, return the letter to the candidate in a sealed envelope.
Determine the deadline - double-check with the student as to the deadline of the college recommendation letter. Ideally, you will be given an adequate amount of time to complete a positive, detailed letter, however, the most important detail is that it is received before the application deadline.
Save the letter - when you have finished writing a recommendation, be sure to save it in order to help make writing the next college recommendation letter easier. The student will likely be applying to more than one school and may ask that you write a separate recommendation for each one. Although it is important that each letter is tailored to the application at hand, select information can be recycled for multiple letters. It is more convenient to tailor the original passage than to repetitively recollect the advice on how to write a college recommendation.
What Colleges Really Want
Colleges place a large emphasis on a student's academic ability because what is accomplished in high school is the strongest predictor of their academic success in college. What colleges really want, however, is a win-win situation. They want to admit students who will thrive at their institution, not only for the student's benefit, but for their own as well. As more and more students become college-bound, colleges and universities will become increasingly selective, placing more emphasis on the ability to know how to write a college recommendation letter.
As a teacher, counselor, employer or personal acquaintance of a college-bound teen, you may at some point receive a request for help in writing a college recommendation letter. These students are not only placing their trust in you, they are putting you in the unique position to make an impact on whether or not they are admitted to their college of choice. Following this advice on how to write a college recommendation will help to ensure a professional letter and give your candidate a greater likelihood of being accepted into his or her college of choice.

Dear _,
My goal in studying Biomedical Science is to achieve a deeper knowledge of the human body. I respect people who dedicate their lives to help others in need and using their knowledge for the greater good. Since I was born and raised in the Philippines, I understand the need for Biomedical Science especially in lower economically developed countries where health issues such as malaria and tuberculosis have affected the country. Having an awareness of this issue at a young age has led to my curiosity in Biomedical Science.
I believe independence is a key attitude for university. Studying Biology and Chemistry required me to think logically and learning mechanisms in chemistry often involved critical thinking. I try to consolidate my understanding by further research such as studying the mechanism for diazotisation. Likewise, practical work such as dissections and ester synthesis has taught me to be patient. I have learnt to work in a standardised manner whilst being structured in collecting and recording data. Similarly I have learnt to be efficient in my studies and research when I was completing my EPQ on the ethics of drug trials. Whilst researching, I have learnt to work within deadlines and manage my workload in a productive manner which I believe is a key necessity for studying science.
I was also fortunate to do work shadowing in my local hospital focusing on endoscopy, surgery and A&E. I shadowed several medical professionals and I learnt how important it is for them to work together harmoniously especially in diagnosis and prognosis. This experience has helped me understand the responsibilities that a healthcare professional must adhere to ranging from providing a good standard of care and being honest and open whilst acting with integrity.
In addition, I am currently completing my DofE Gold award which allowed me to develop my skills in decision making. This involved both teamwork and individual tasks which required me to be patient and resilient in duties such as cook work and map reading. Similarly, I travelled to Ecuador in the summer of where I undertook voluntary work. This gave my additional insight to problems that other poorer countries face. During my time there, I gained confidence in speaking and socialising with other people whilst working as a team to achieve a task such as making cement. I try my best and seize hold of every opportunity given to me. In Ecuador, I realised I have a privileged life and I have grown to become more grateful for the things we take for granted.
Whilst in secondary school, when I was a prefect, I was responsible for helping younger students. I enjoyed mentoring and assisting the lower years as it helped with my development of leadership and communication skills. I also have a passion for photography. It is a way to express feelings and provides a way to develop my creativity and relieve stress. Moreover, I am learning to play the ukulele and the demand for time and effort has made me develop a sense of persistence and commitment to learn new skills.
I hope to continue my development and aim to understand the spectrum of knowledge that Biomedical Science offers. I am a self-motivated, determined individual and I look forward to the academic and social challenges of university. I am aware of the demands and difficulties of a science based career but my aspiration to learn Biomedical Science has only been strengthened by my paramount desire to help others.
Yours sincerely,

Dead silence.
My left knee trembled uncontrollably. Why did no one speak? My hands beganto shake so I pulled them behind me-like one condemned. My eyes gauged thedistance to the door.
Then someone began to clap. More joined in. Tim looked into my eyes andsmiled. He smiled!
Joy, oh joy. My soul overflowed with rapture. I had done it! He noticed me!All the shame, all the worry, and all the castigation melted away in thatmoment. I knew how to make him love me. I simply had to speak better, singbetter, act better, and write better than anyone else. Determined, I joinedcompetitions, played in concerts, and wrote essays that were read in class. WhenTim transferred to the A.P. class, so did I. I threw myself into classdiscussions, attempting to dazzle him with my intelligence and intrepidity.Making friends with his friends, I dogged his steps.
The next summer Tim moved away. I never heard from him again. But thetransformation in me had taken place. Now I was involved for the simple pleasureof being involved. Challenging people surrounded me. Biff taught me to love.Dave taught me to laugh. Ramez taught me to break my limits. Alit gave meconfidence. Whenever I was in danger of reverting to a wallflower, one of my newfriends would drag me into another club or activity.
Dear Sir:

Applied Program: Wireless Telecommunications
On August 27, 20_, at the Central Institute of the Datang TelecomTechnology and Industry Group based in Beijing, a young woman, full of energyand self-confidence, was giving a presentation entitled “The Design of theSwitching Numerical Method of the Radio Resource Management (RRM) Strategy inTD-SCDMA, and the Testing of Its Simulated Systems,” which received raptattention and high remarks from all the experts in Computer andTelecommunications who attended the meeting. That woman was I. At present,TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA, and CDMA 20__ are considered the main technological standardsin the third generation of the world’s technological development in mobiletelecommunications. And the design of a switching computation method for the RRMStrategy is a key element and technological crux for the TD-SCDMA technology. Inretrospection, I found that it was my great enthusiasm for mobiletelecommunications, and my persistent pursuit of accuracy and perfection thathave helped me win accolades from colleagues and experts.
In China, since the TD-SCDMA uses a smart antenna, it makes a demand for afiner research on the computation method for the RRM Strategy, in areas such asPC, DCA, and HC. To me, a new starter in the company, it was a real challenge.Since the research team was new, it lacked engineering data and practicalexperience, although the equipment of the lab was quite advanced. It was onlyafter much library research, thinking, and consultation with experts did I finda RRM computation method suitable for a smart antenna. Because a smart antennahas its advantages of a more accurate VE locating and reduced searching areas, this computation method effectively lowers the complexity of the switchingprocess and its failure rate. During the time when I worked for the project, Ioften stayed up several days in a roll to perfect a lab test. But I also derivedan enormous sense of satisfaction and fulfillment after overcoming obstacles, which more than compensated the pains and difficulties that I had to gothrough.
The rapid development of mobile telecommunication technology places a highdemand on professionals working in this field. To a certain extent, it has to bea labor of love. My keen interest in mobile telecommunications emanated from theconcept of “personal communication.” During my undergraduate years at theNorthwest University of Industry, I spent much of my spare time browsing overprofessional publications and journals, to keep myself abreast of currentdevelopments. The concept of “personal communication” I encountered during thisprocess impressed me immensely. A system of “personal communication” is one thatallows the user to communicate at anytime, anyplace, to anyone, and in any way.It painted such a beautiful of picture of a future society that I became fullyconvinced that it is a subject well worth my lifelong pursuit. This was why Ichose Mobile Telecommunications as my area of specialization in the graduateprogram. As a graduate student, I completed several research projectsindependently and successfully, including, for instance, “Turbo Code and theApplication of Its Coding Concept.” In short frame conditions, the Turbo Code, with its improved application in engineering, seems to have a bright future inreal-time voice-data service (Please see the attached article). After completingmy graduate degree, I entered Datang Group, a pioneer in China’s softwaredevelopment. Here I did software design for the switch control template used atthe RNC equipment for the TD-SCDMA system, and developed a switching computationmethod for the RRM Strategy. I went through the entire process of softwaredesign for the switch control template for the RNC equipment, from topicanalysis to the project outline and then to actual program writing.
The present development of telecommunication technology indicates that thesmart antenna, software radio, and the transmission technology of subline 下行high-speed subdivided exchange data (下行高速分组交换数据传输技术) are key technologies fortoday’s mobile telecommunications. Software radio, in particular, has attractedmuch public attention. The use of DSP and software to solve the problem ofwireless interfaces of diverse standards on a public hardware platform hasbecome a major issue pursued by many professionals in our field. I too hope tomake my own contribution to the technological development in this area. In thenext few years, the traditional concept of using chips to build wirelessequipment for mobile telecommunication will be seriously challenged. In recentyears, the technologies and standards of the third generation of mobiletelecommunication have been rapidly updated. Software radio, I believe, will bethe future of our trade.
My desire to know more about computer engineering prompted me to rise abovemy present conditions. The United States, as technological superpower, havefirst-rate teaching faculty and research facilities in the world. Itsideological openness and tolerance make a sharp contrast to Chinese culture, which tends to value tradition rather than innovation. Wirelesstelecommunication may be said to be one of the newest research areas, and it isnew concepts and new vision that give life to the industry. I believe that inthe fine research environment in the United States, I will be able to make“shortcuts” in attaining my academic and career goals.
I would like to apply for admission to the Center for WirelessTelecommunications of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Asthe most prestigious research institute in Wireless Telecommunications, theCenter has a large number of famed scholars and professionals dedicated to thetheoretic research of Wireless Telecommunications. Meanwhile, it maintains closecontact with the telecommunication industry, and in this way can test the theoryin practical experimentation, which in turn promotes theoretic research. It isan ideal place for me to fully develop my research potential.
I look forward to finding a teaching position at college level in Chinaafter completing my graduate education, which will allow me to continue myresearch work in Wireless Telecommunications. I will impart my theoretic andpractical knowledge to my students, and hope that this will benefit China’swireless telecommunication industry, and society at large. I will make everyeffort to make the idea of “personal communication” a reality.
