Ladies and gentlemen: Good morning! Today, the title of my speech is A Lesson from Nature.

Around us , there are plants, animals and many other things. We live in nature, so to keep the balance of nature is very important for us. But today, too many trees are still being cut down in many countries and flood all over the world are getting more and more serious, A lot of land has gone with them. This is a lesson from nature.

When people move into a new place, they often cut down trees or pull out many wild plants to make farmland. They don’t know that trees can stop flood and wind from washing or blowing the earth away, and that many of these wild plants are food for some wild animals. If the animals can’t find enough plants to eat, they will die or have to leave the place.

In one part of the United States, for example, the deer there like to eat a kind of wild flowers. The mountain tigers there eat the deer. But people killed many mountain tigers to protect the deer. soon there were so many deer that the ate up all the wild flowers. Then the deer began to eat the green leaves of the young trees .so the farmers thought of ways to protect their trees, then the deer had nothing to eat and many of them died.

The number of trees, deer, tigers, wild flowers and plants has changed much—less and less. We need to do more to keep the balance of nature.

Thank you!

Good afternoon, honorable judges, dear teachers & friends.

I'm Lai Senhan from the University of International Business & Economics. Do you know what date is it today? Today is the Olympic Date. I'm so glad to stand here today to share my idea about Beijing Olympic Games together with you all. The title of my speech is: what can we do for Beijing Olympic Games?

First of all, let me tell you a story that happened 2 years ago. At the end of August, , when I decided to come to Beijing for study, my friends hel______ ______ ____________rewell Party for me. They said: after your graduation, you should look for a job in Beijing, and then in , we shall go to visit you during the Olympic Games. I laughed and answered: OK, no problem!

Time flied and 2 years passed. Now I am a graduate. My teachers and classmates always ask me: what's your plan after your graduation? Go back home, stay in Beijing, or go to some other places? And I always answer: I will stay in Beijing. I make this decision not because of my promise to my friends 2 years ago, but because: I've fallen in love with Beijing! I'm eager to welcome the coming Olympic Games together with my fellow countrymen, and I wish I could do something for the Olympics & for the city.

As we know, Beijing will host the 29th Summer Olympic Games in 2008. As a Chinese, I think many people are thinking: what we can do for Beijing Olympic Games. Most of us are not athletes, we cannot take part in competitions directly; we are not officials either, we don't need to do the preparatory work. We are only ordinary people, what we can do!

There are still so many things we can do! For example, for me, I am a graduate majoring Business English. As far as I am concerned, I will keep on learning English hard, and apply for being a volunteer. I will use English to serve the Games together with other volunteers. And also, as a businessman at that time, I will avail myself of the great commercial opportunities that the Olympics brings to us, make more efforts to offer my contribution to the growth of our national economy.

And for all of us, with the goal to host a “Green Olympics”, we shall plant more trees, grass & flowers. Don't waste water. In order to alleviate the problems of air pollution & traffic congestions, we shall take buses & subways more. With the goal to host a “People's Olympics”, and in order to make our Olympics more attractive and to make our Beijing more beautiful, we shall help everyone we meet who needs help, we shall abide by traffic rules, don't smoke in public and no spitting. The most important way for our Chinese to support our Beijing Olympic Games, in my opinion, is to work hard on our duties.

when my older son was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, my first reaction was relief - i finally knew the reason for his behavior. however, i was also overwhelmed with sadness, fear and anger. i felt sorry for my son and for myself. like many others in similar circumstances, my question to god was “why me?”

through the grace of god, i am now able to focus on my gratitude. i believe god chose me to raise my son because he knew that i would give him the best i have. he will teach me to love and understand him for who he is. i am grateful that i have my son, and grateful that god chose me to be his mother.

there is power and healing in gratitude.

how can gratitude help us in our everyday lives as moms? think about the difference you can make in your family’s life just by noticing and being thankful for all the great things they do. when you express gratitude, you show your love and appreciation. everyone needs to feel these things every day. sometimes as moms we feel that no one appreciates us - and it is true that moms are usually last on the list to be thanked. one way you can teach gratitude is by example. even on the days when it seems your children or husband are doing everything wrong, find a reason to thank them. take the time and energy to look for the good. think about the things that your family does that deserve a “thank you.” you might say to your husband, “thank you for working so hard for our family,“ or, to your child, “i really appreciate your sense of humor - it feels good to laugh.” expressing your gratitude helps family members to understand how it feels to be appreciated. and if they still don’t catch on, let them know when you feel unappreciated. you can also tell them how great it makes you feel when they do express gratitude.

gratitude is a wonderful motivator when you need cooperation. when enlisting the help of my two year old, i praise him often and with enthusiasm. i let him know that he is a great helper. i know i am teaching him appreciation because he expresses it to me. the other day i brought a bunch of multi-colored roses home. for five days, at least once or twice a day, my son thanked me for the flowers.

sometimes we get so busy and caught up in daily life that we forget to be grateful. we expect everyone to do their share without being asked. the only time anyone hears anything is when a chore has not been completed. this attitude, over the long haul, will develop very resentful and uncooperative family members.

when life is good, gratitude is easy. it becomes more challenging to be grateful when we are experiencing hard times. financial hardship, long-term illness, the death of a loved one and marital strife can all be trying and difficult. it is hard to find anything to be grateful for. but while pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. we have a choice in how we view our circumstances. we can turn our hearts to god and trust that he has a plan for us. we can be thankful for the lessons we learn and the opportunities for personal growth and transformation. look at all the people in this world who share the gifts they received during especially difficult times of their life. it is the painful times of my life that have made me stronger, wiser, and more loving today.

i recently attended a powerful seminar on the various levels of energy that a human being emanates. the presenter identified seven different levels of energy. the first level of energy is defined by feelings of apathy and thoughts of victimization. a person at a level two energy has feelings of anger and thoughts of conflict. as a person moves up the energy scale, their feelings and thoughts are more positive. at level seven, one would experience unconditional love and no judgmental thoughts. only god radiates at level seven. the average person emits energy at a level of 2.5. to experience peace and joy, an in- dividual must raise his energy level to 5 or 6.

so how can we raise our energy level and open our heart to joy? one powerful way is to develop an attitude of gratitude. look at every- one with grateful eyes. listen to your heart and the heart of your loved ones. speak words of affirmation every day of your life. be grateful for your life with all its lessons and blessings. the more grateful thoughts and feelings you experience and express the more instrumental you will be in healing the world. and your outlook on life will improve in the process.

good evening, ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges and distinguishedguest! this is alex time! ha-ha…my topic today is to show our gratitude topeople around you. then what is gratitude? at the moment a well-known song 4 comes into my mind.yes, that is called heart of feel grateful. my heart is filled up with gratitudebecause i’m with you/your make me courageous to be myself from cradle to thegrave/so now i wanna thank for destiny/i’ll cherish the flower when it bloomsuntil falls. the poetic lyric tells us that gratitude is actually a state ofmind.

once upon a time, the pilgrims took the may flower ship to north america.they started a new life there although a lot of difficulties and hardships theyencountered. after a long-time work, they got a big harvest. the pilgrims had afeast in 1621 near plymouth, massachusetts, which is often referred to as thefirst thanksgiving. people show their sincere gratitude towards the god, thenature, the earth, the river, the indians and themselves. moreover the 1621feast has become a model for the thanksgiving celebration in the united states.so we can see gratitude is an action to take.

how can we express our gratitude? it’s never a simple question to answer.gratitude is a rare jewel, not a piece of cake, i know. but how can we expectsuch big events happening now and then? how can we be ready to say thank youahead of time? how can we always hope to be grateful to everything and everyonefor their dignity and generosity? sometimes i 5 may ask to myself. is it moral? isit honest? is it beneficial? is it necessary? or the most interesting one, is itridiculous? ha-ha…so in my opinion, we’d better concentrate on our life’sdetails. keep your eyes open to your daily life. yes! a shining smile issupposed to be gratitude. a thank-you note is supposed to be gratitude. asoulful watch is supposed to be gratitude. as far as a baby’s crying on hisarrival is supposed to be gratitude. and even fallen leaves in autumn aresupposed to be gratitude. so the person, who stands here giving you a speech, isalso showing his gratitude.

at last, what’s the significance of showing our gratitude? a proverb saysthat gratitude is the sign of noble souls. wow! until now i am not that kind ofgiant, but i dare to say that everyone, you and me, has the right and the dutyto show our gratitude to the world, no matter rich or poor, happy or sad, youngor old. only by doing so can we achieve our human ultimate concern. meanwhile itobviously helps to build up a harmonious society. under the same sky we enjoythe same sunshine and appreciate the same love due to thanking and caring eachother. well, does it plato’s paradise?

all in all, a world full of gratitude is preciously 6 expected for thousandsof years. why not show our gratitude to people around you?

thank you very much!

Tonight, I shall describe the actions of the enemy, the actions I have ordered to deal with that situation, and the reasons for my decision.

Cambodia -- a small country of seven million people -- has been a neutral nation since the Geneva Agreement of 1954, an agreement, incidentally, which was signed by the government of North Vietnam. American policy since then has been to scrupulously respect the neutrality of the Cambodian people. We have maintained a skeleton diplomatic mission of fewer than 15 in Cambodia’s capital, and that only since last August. For the previous four years, from 1965 to 1969, we did not have any diplomatic mission whatever in Cambodia, and for the past five years we have provided no military assistance whatever and no economic assistance to Cambodia.

North Vietnam, however, has not respected that neutrality. For the past five years, as indicated on this map, that you see here, North Vietnam has occupied military sanctuaries all along the Cambodian frontier with South Vietnam. Some of these extend up to 20 miles into Cambodia. The sanctuaries are in red, and as you note, they are on both sides of the border. They are used for hit-and-run attacks on American and South Vietnamese forces in South Vietnam. These Communist-occupied territories contain major base camps, training sites, logistics facilities, weapons and ammunition factories, airstrips, and prisoner of war compounds.

Dear friends! Do you still remember your first English teacher? You may say:” Yes.” Everyone has his teachers, in my mind, I’ll never forget her---my first English teacher Ms. Li. Without her, I wouldn’t be standing here. She is a young and lovely lady with beautiful eyes. Her voice sounds sweet and she speaks English very well. That was the first impression she left on us when she first gave us an English lesson.

In her class, she taught us carefully and patiently. she has a strange way of making her class lively and interesting. She always made opportunities for us to speak English. She gave us many beautiful pictures to talk on them, played games with us and told us many interesting stories. She made us learn from games. We learned English with great fun. After class she helped the students who had trouble in learning English.

Little by little, I had interest in English, but English was a new subject to me, I had many difficulties in learning it well. I often felt very confused. Even though I wanted to give up learning English. It was Ms. Li who helped me to find ways to overcome my difficulties. She helped me to practice speaking English everyday. She always encouraged me whenever I lost heart. She helped me to have confidence in myself. She gave me what I needed, courage, confidence, good ways to learn

English and opportunities to speak English in class. So I was grateful for her. Maybe I can’t meet her again. The only thing I can give her is my best wishes. I wish my dear teacher happiness, good health and good luck. And I also want to say to her: Thank you, Ms. Li. I love you!
