The Most Important Day in My Life

Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore? I was like that ship before my education began, only I had no way of knowing how near the harbor was.

The most important day I remember in all my life is the one on which my teacher, Anne Mansfield Sullivan, came to me. I am filled with wonder when I consider the immeasurable contrast between the two lives which it connects. It was the third of March, 1887, three months before I was seven years old.

On the afternoon of that exciting day, I guessed vaguely from my mother’s signs and from the hurrying to and fro in the house that something unusual was about to happen, so I went to the door and waited on the steps.

I felt approaching footsteps. I thought it was my mother and stretched out my hand. Someone took it, and then I was caught up and held close in the arms of the person who had come to reveal all things to me, and, more important than that, to love me.

The morning after my teacher came she led me into her room and gave me a doll. When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word “d-o-l-l”. I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to imitate it. When I finally succeeded in making the letters correctly I was filled with childish pleasure and pride. Running downstairs to my mother I held up my hand and made the letters for doll. I did not know that I was spelling a word or even that words existed; I simply made my fingers go in monkey-like imitation. In the days that followed I learned to spell in this uncomprehending way many words, among them, “pin”, “hat”, “cup”, and a few verbs like “sit”, “stand” and “walk”, but my teacher had been with me several weeks before I understood that everything has a name.

One day while I was playing with my new doll, Miss Sullivan gave me my old doll, too. She then spelled “d-o-l-l” and tried to make me understand that “d-o-l-l” applied to both. Earlier in the day, we had a struggle over the two words “m-u-g” is “mug” and “w-a-t-e-r” is “water” , but I persisted in mixing up the two. I became impatient and, seizing the new doll, I dashed it on the floor, breaking it into pieces. I was not sorry after my fit of temper. In the dark, still world, I had no strong sentiment for anything.

My teacher brought me my hat, and I knew we were going out into the warm sunshine. We walked down the path to the well-house. Someone was drawing water, and my teacher placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream gushed over one hand, she spelled into the other word water, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still; my whole attention was fixed upon the movements of her finger. Suddenly I seemed to remember something I had forgotten — a thrill of returning thought – and the mystery of language was revealed to me. I knew then that the “w-a-t-e-r” meant that wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul and set it free.

I left the well-house eager to learn. Everything had a name and each name gave birth to a new thought. As we returned to the house, every object which I touched seemed to be full of life. That was because I saw everything with a strange, new sight that had come to me. On entering the door I remembered the doll I had broken. I felt my way to the fragments and tried in vain to put them together. Then my eyes were filled with tears, for I realized what I had done, and for the first time I felt sorry.

I learned a lot of new words that day. It would have been difficult to find a happier child than me when I lay in my small bed that night and thought of the joys that day had brought to me, and for the first time I longed for a new day to come.

三、竞赛方式

比赛分初赛和决赛两个阶段进行,由人文学院商务英语专业教研室负责实施,时间分别为3月25日和4月10日。决赛同时也是浙江省首届英语写作大赛资格选拔赛,特等奖获得者参加4月23日举行的首届浙江省高职高英语写作比赛。院级比赛奖项按科技文化节要求设置。

1、初赛

3月25日进行初赛。比赛方式为统一笔试,由商务英语教研室负责命题与阅卷,人文学院负责安排监考。初赛优胜选手获取决赛资格,并由商务英语教研室组织决赛培训。

2、决赛

4月10日进行“浙江交通职业技术学院首届英语写作大赛”决赛。决赛试卷由“全国高职高专英语写作大赛”组委会命题,由商务英语教研室组织评卷,并按比例设立奖项,具体参照“奖项设置”。获特等奖选手将代表学院参加“浙江省高职高专英语写作比赛”。

四、赛题命题原则和题型

1、命题原则:依据目前高职英语教育的相关文件,充分反映高职英语教育的发展趋势。赛题体现高职特色,突出写作能力,内容既贴近当代大学生的学习和生活,又反映未来工作岗位对英语写作能力的要求和个人职业发展的需求。

2、比赛时间:120分钟。

3、比赛题型:比赛题目包括两部分(如下所示)。

公共英语组

题型体裁字数分值题量命题作文应用文(便条、邀请函及回函、通知、简短私人和业务信函、简短传真和电子邮件、简短广告、简短产品与厂家介绍、简短产品使用说明等)不少于100词40%1看图画或图表作文,给出关键词、段首句、规定情景、提纲或围绕某一主题等作文不限不少于350词60%1

摘要:听、说、读、写四项基本技能是大学英语教学的重点,然而,在四项基本技能中,写作是当代大学生的一项薄弱环节,而导致这一问题的原因:课时有限;教学方法单一、陈旧。本文尝试通过过程教学法改变这一现状,在介绍过程教学法理论基础及特点的基础上,从输入阶段、写初稿阶段、重写阶段、定稿及最终反馈阶段四方面探讨过程教学法在大学英语写作教学中的具体实施。

随着经济全球化、一体化的发展,英语作为一门国际通用语言在世界各国的贸易中起着纽带作用。由于各个行业在工作中对英语都有或多或少的需求,社会对大学生英语技能的要求随之越来越高。而写作在听、说、读、写四项基本技能中,最能反映学生的英语综合能力,但目前,我国高校英语写作课普遍采用的结果教学法已经无法满足社会的需求,英语写作教学改革迫在眉睫。

一、大学生英语写作能力薄弱的原因

目前,我国大学生英语写作能力比较薄弱,导致这种现象的主要原因有以下几方面。

(一)课时有限

目前,我国很多高校没有开设专门的英语写作课程,写作只是大学英语课程的一部分。由于课时有限,教师很难在课堂上单独划出一部分时间进行专门的写作讲解,只能在讲解课文的过程中简单涉及一些写作技能与技巧。

(二)教学方法单一、陈旧

结果教学法是我国高校普遍采用的英语写作教学法,它注重写作的成品,忽视写作的过程。对于一个写作题目,教师首先会选取一篇范文进行分析,并将写作技巧、写作理论机械地灌输给学生,学生不需要形成自己的评论,只需仿照模板再写出一篇相似的作文即可。这种教学方法比较急功近利,短期内确实可以看到效果,但从长远来看,过程教学法扼杀了学生的创新思维能力,无法真正激发学生的写作热情,更达不到提高学生写作能力的目的。

二、过程教学法的理论基础及其特点

(一)过程教学法的理论基础

20世纪70年代以来,基于交际理论的过程教学法受到了研究者们的重视,这种教学法认为,写作本身就是一种交际活动,而不是个体的单独行为。RichardC.Gebhardt在《写作过程与意图》中说:“当你写作时,你就是在试图与他人交流。如果你不向他人表明你的观点,接受他人的批评,你就不会知道你的文章对读者的影响。”过程写作法注重学生的写作过程,在整个教学过程中,学生是主体,教师只起到组织和引导的作用。这一方法使学生从单一、枯燥的写作课堂中解脱出来,使他们由被动、机械地接受知识转变成积极、主动地学习知识。由于学生全程参与写作,通过思考、讨论、修稿最终完成一篇作文,因此,整个过程都会激发学生的积极性,从而促进学生写作能力的提升。

(二)过程教学法的特点

首先,过程教学法在课堂上转换了教师和学生的角色。以往的课堂,教师是课堂的主体,学生只是被动地接受教师传授的知识。过程教学法倡导以学生为中心,使学生成为课堂的主体,教师只起到引导、组织和监控的作用。过程教学法注重学生的写作过程,即从主题思想的理解到文章结构的布局再到内容的安排等,学生都要参与其中,并进行充分讨论,直至作文成稿。整个写作过程激发了学生的创造性思维能力,开阔了学生的视野,能有效提高学生的写作能力。其次,过程教学使单一、乏味的结果反馈变成即时、多样的过程反馈。过程教学法的反馈与传统结果教学法反馈不同,它不是最终的、一次性的反馈,而是将反馈穿插于整个写作过程。在整个写作过程中,学生既是作者,又是读者,接受别人意见的同时又给别人提出意见,这种即时有效的反馈能使学生意识到自己的问题,其比结果教学法最终的一次性反馈更有利于提高学生的写作质量。

三、过程教学法的具体实施

过程教学法将写作过程划分为三个阶段:写前阶段(prewriting,)、写作阶段(drafting)和重写阶段(rewriting)。写前阶段是学生在落笔之前的准备阶段,包括理解题目、搜集材料、构思作文的整体框架、写提纲,等等;写作阶段是主体阶段,是学生通过讨论、分析完成初稿的阶段;重写阶段是通篇阅读初稿,根据别人的反馈意见及自己对初稿的评审,合理有序地调整作文。但是,写作是一个十分复杂的过程,简单的.三个阶段包含着很多步骤,在实际写作教学中,可按照如下几个步骤实施。

(一)输入阶段

这一阶段是指学生在落笔之前的准备阶段,包括理解题目、确定主题、搜集材料、打腹稿等。教师可以在这一阶段简单向学生介绍一些相关的写作知识、写作技巧,然后将学生分成小组进行讨论,每组4~5人即可,以让学生通过讨论充分理解题目,同时互相借鉴所搜集到的资料,并最终理清思路,列出作文大纲。教师在这一过程中,主要起到组织、引导和监控的作用,即教师要引导每个小组进行积极有效的讨论,并将学生讨论的提纲与其他小组交换,进行小组互评,以开阔学生的写作思路。

(二)写初稿阶段

经过小组讨论之后,学生的思路变得清晰明朗起来,自然就过渡到落笔成文阶段。这一阶段,学生根据讨论的结果,将搜集到的资料进行重新加工,进而完成写作。在写作过程中,学生不要过于注重斟酌字句,要确定好文章的结构,把想要表达的思想清楚完整地表达出来。课堂即时反馈阶段。学生在完成初稿后,教师可以组织学生就初稿再进行一次讨论,即对初稿的结构、内容、思想进行讨论,并提出修改意见。教师作为课堂的组织者、监控者和引导者,要密切关注每个小组的讨论,了解学生作文中出现的问题,同时给予其有针对性的启发和指导。

(三)重写阶段

学生根据同学和教师的反馈意见,并结合自身对初稿的反思,对初稿进行修改。这一过程,学生除了要把精力放在结构、思想、内容上,还要注意自己的语言、语法、句式及单词拼写。学生修改完成后,教师可以让学生两人一组互换作文进行初步批改,并将修改重点放在单词的拼写和语法上。

(四)定稿及最终反馈阶段

学生完成初稿的修改之后,将定稿的作文交给教师进行最终批阅。由于在整个写作过程中,同学之间、同学与教师之间已经进行过几次沟通,所以最终的批改不会出现“满篇红”的现象。需要注意的是,教师应注意批语的重要性,充分发挥批语对学生的督促和鼓励的作用。

四、结语

语言是用来交流的,而写作本身就是一个交际的过程,学生如果没有足够的交际,就不能自如地运用语言进行写作。过程教学法从根本上改变了传统单一、僵化的写作模式,促使学生积极主动地参与到整个写作过程中,并通过课堂讨论、课堂反馈、修改等阶段,激发学生的写作兴趣,开阔学生的写作思路,进而达到提高学生写作能力的目的。

篇15:浅析大学英语写作教学

1大学英语写作教学中的现实问题

(1)体制问题

基于客观普遍性而论,当前大学英语写作教学中存在的体制问题主要以下述几点较为突出:首先是英语课程的内容设置与社会环境脱节。英语是国际通用语言,对其教学应以实践性为重,但部分高校对于英语教学却仍停留在理论性“灌输”和语法“填塞”中,未能充分地对口学生专业和日后发展,也未设置有针对性的课程内容,从而无法显现出对学生学习能力和学习素养为培养核心的教学目标。其次是英语课程的教学目标与目前的教学现状相冲突。英语学习以提高学生的英语听、说、读、写能力为基本要求,并通过四年专业训练培养学生的英语书面表达能力和口头表达能力,使学生能在日常学习工作中和日后交际活动中熟练使用英语。但大多高校仅围绕书本知识的传授而忽视实际应用,重语法而轻“听”“说”,学生的学习积极性和能动性普遍不高。再者是英语教师的师资力量限制了英语教学水平的提高。随着高校扩招,学生数量迅速增加,英语教师的需求量日益增加,部分师资力量薄弱的高校无力聘请外教或高水平的英语教师,使先进教学模式无法惠及学生,导致学生依旧“被动式”学习,教师依然“粗放式”教授,教学效果往往只能通过相关等级考试等方式鉴定和检验,最终大大打压了学生对英语学习的兴趣。

(2)学生问题

学生方面的问题主要体现在英语基础薄弱和写作时基础错误较多,下文将例举其中典型以作论述:首先是写作主题不明确,逻辑不清晰。由于缺乏词汇积累和写作素材,很多学生在审题结束后往往觉得无内容可写,只能将材料东拼西凑,导致内容空洞无物,无法体现主题思想。与此同时,受汉语思维定势的影响,学生容易将文章写成“中式英语”作文,其所表述的用语与英文书写逻辑大相径庭。其次是英语写作格式错误、语篇结构混乱。英语作文写作特点在于内容简洁明了、条理清楚、结构分明、用语规范,且必须严格遵守格式和文体要求。但大学生在写作中常易犯各种格式错误,例如在写英语书信时经常将信头(写信人的住址、日期)和信内地址(收件人的住址)的顺序颠倒。最后是拼写错误和语法错误。这是英语写作中最常见的错误,主要表现为句法结构错误、时态和语态错误、主谓不一致、动词搭配错误等。

2改善大学英语写作教学的实践路径

(1)课堂强调学生主体身份。即教师教学应遵循素质教育新理念,将引导学生自主、合作、探究式学习作为突出教学中学生主体地位的有效途径;构建与时代发展相适应的写作教学模式,艺术性地发挥教学主导作用,潜心设计具有启发性、迁移性和求异性的写作任务,强化学生在写作教学中的主体地位,引导学生在英语写作中的体验、实践、参与、交流和合作。例如,为积极响应教育部号召的“创建和谐校园活动”,教师可组织学生参与下述写作任务:首先,“结合教育部的文件精神,谈谈你对‘和谐校园’的见解、看法以及构建‘和谐校园’的建议”;然后,引导学生自主研讨写作背景和写作要求,明确文章结构的组成部分,即背景简要介绍、对“和谐校园”的见解看法以及建议;再开始Brain-Storming,汇集有关和谐校园的词汇、短语或句子,进而顺利完成写作任务,充分发挥学生作为教学主体的主导性。

(2)按照具体生情设计写作任务。正如俗语“十个手指各有长短”,学生学习能力亦各有优劣。因此,要提高写作教学的有效性,就必须反复研究教材,深入了解学生,娴熟地掌控教学的重难点,结合学生的年龄、心理特征和写作规律,启发学生参与对写作教学“任务”的设计,让学生自主决定写什么以及如何写,以师生互动协商的方式选择与学生的生活、学习和经历紧密相关、贴近学生兴趣和爱好的话题,确定写作任务。努力使英语写作任务既能提供真实、明确的语言输出信息,又能贴近学生现实生活,同时符合学生认知水平和写作能力,让学生在对熟悉的.写作素材分析、归纳和落笔成文中完成写作任务,在顺其自然的写作中认识到英语写作并非想象中的困难,进而引导学生将英语写作任务看成是自己内心情感的表达与抒发。

(3)优化教学形式以及学生素质。除前文所述外,笔者认为,要从根本上提高大学生英语写作水平,还需要结合教师和学生个体的共同努力,即一方面加强师资力量建设,保障英语教学质量;另一方面,聘请有资历的英语教师或专业外教来丰富授课形式,缓解本校英语教师的教学压力;也可以引入先进的教学方法,采取多元教学法提高学生对英语的学习兴趣。与此同时,大学生也应提高自身素养,夯实英语基础知识,通过积极阅读英文报刊、杂志及趣味性书籍等来积累词汇、语法,培养语感。需要注意的是,除课本中的范文外,学生通常很难接触到有针对性且具有实用性的文章,对此,高校或班级可以结合具体生情和学情订购相关英语杂志、报刊和趣味性阅读书籍来成立英语角,为学生的英语学习提供有利外界条件。

(4)结合实际需求传授写作技巧。巧妙设计英语写作任务是大学英语写作教学的关键性环节,只有根据教学实际需求、学生切身需要,才能有效设计出符合教学发展、贴合学生能力的写作任务。具体步骤为:首先,教师要选择和把握好写作任务推出的时机,在利用情境教学、直观教学等方式激发起学生写作兴趣的基础上,展示写作素材,布置写作任务,突出学生写作的主动性。其次,要根据学生的知识基础、写作能力和写作任务完成情况,掌控写作任务的推出节奏,引导学生以寻找解决任务的方式接触语法、句子、词汇和框架结构、段落安排等方面的语言材料,使任务的推出与学生的思维过程和写作进程同步,减轻学生的认知加工负担。再者,促进写作与阅读的有机结合。写作与阅读是输出与输入的关系,教师可在英语写作任务中融入一定量的阅读任务,引导学生适量阅读原版英语书籍和资料,用阅读任务推动学生的读写结合、多读勤写,使之在扩大词汇量、熟悉词法和句法的同时,增加对英语文化背景的理解,明确书面语与口语的差异。

3结语

大学英语写作教学的理论基础是优化写作教学目标与功能的重要举措。广大教师要深刻领会其中内涵,不断反思、调整和完善英语写作任务的设计、完成与评价过程,灵活地处理英语写作训练问题,使大学生的英语写作技能和写作水平得到令人满意的显著提高。
