一、学习成绩

申请人的学习成绩,无论是高中成绩还是大学成绩,采用两种形式来表 现,一种是“GPA”(Grade Point Average)即“平均成绩点数”,另一种是“Ranking”,通过了解申请人以前的学习成绩和学习名次来了解其学业潜力。

二、标准考试成绩(Standard tests cores)

由于中国国内大学教学水平参差不齐,不能根据申请人在一所大学的成绩和名次来断定学生的实际水平。美国大学把申请人“标准考试”的成绩作为评定奖学金的依据。“标准考试”目前在内地举办的有TOEFL、GRE(课程)、GMAT、LSAT、TSE五种。其中TOEFL考试与TSE考试是一种语言能力的考试,它们 仅作为一个基本要求,即要求应达到所申请的美国学校TOEFL或TSE的最低分数线,而对申请奖学金资助没有实际上的帮助。但GRE、GMAT或LSAT 属于能力测试,其分数反映的是考生学习、思维能力的高低,是影响奖学金资助的标准考试。

三、工作经验

具有一定工作经验的申请人,比没有工作经验的申请人具有优势,优势的大小根据申请人所学的专业而定。例如工商行政管理专业、新闻专业、临床医学专业、法律专业都十分重视申请人的工作经验。美国有些名牌大学的商学院甚至不接收没有工作经验的申请人。理工类专业对申请人工作经验的要求,一般涉及的是设计、研究与教学等方面的工作经验。如果申请人申请助研金和助教金,具有助教与助研的工作经验则很必要。
