一、学习成绩
申请人的学习成绩，无论是高中成绩还是大学成绩，采用两种形式来表 现，一种是“GPA”(Grade Point Average)即“平均成绩点数”，另一种是“Ranking”，通过了解申请人以前的学习成绩和学习名次来了解其学业潜力。
二、标准考试成绩(Standard tests cores)
由于中国国内大学教学水平参差不齐，不能根据申请人在一所大学的成绩和名次来断定学生的实际水平。美国大学把申请人“标准考试”的成绩作为评定奖学金的依据。“标准考试”目前在内地举办的有TOEFL、GRE(课程)、GMAT、LSAT、TSE五种。其中TOEFL考试与TSE考试是一种语言能力的考试，它们 仅作为一个基本要求，即要求应达到所申请的美国学校TOEFL或TSE的最低分数线，而对申请奖学金资助没有实际上的帮助。但GRE、GMAT或LSAT 属于能力测试，其分数反映的是考生学习、思维能力的高低，是影响奖学金资助的标准考试。
三、工作经验
