圣诞节英语日记
December 25th is Christmas day, my mother told me: Christmas is not a traditional Chinese festival, it is a festival in western countries the biggest, equivalent to the Spring Festival of our country.
Now our country Christmas is very grand. A few days before Christmas, go into the street, every corner lets a person feel the atmosphere of the festival. Most of the merchants, shopping malls with a Christmas tree and with a charming smile form to Santa Claus, some on the door, and some in the hall. The Christmas tree is tower, wearing a green dress, slow little taco bell, as long as gently touched, jingle, make beautiful sounds, all sorts of color of small lights like the stars in the sky blink of an eye, and as a small colorful lanterns, flash, beautiful!
Many merchants in order to attract customers eye, in a transparent glass door spew out all kinds of Christmas gifts of graphics, some direct hit “celebrate Christmas promotion” of all kinds of benefits of advertising. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I hope every children want presents can have a big surprise, of course I was no exception.
Although it is generally agreed that the Christmas tree in its current form came from Germany in the early 19th century, the tradition of decorating a tree to mark winter celebrations dates back hundreds of years to Roman times, when they used to decorate evergreen trees with small pieces of metal to celebrate Saturnalia.

There is a legend that St Boniface, an English monk, came upon a group of pagans gathered around an oak tree who were preparing to sacrifice a child to the God Thor. In order to stop the sacrifice, and save the child‘s life, St Boniface is said to have felled the tree with one blow of his fist. Later on, a fir tree grew in place of the oak and this, St Boniface told the pagans, was the Tree of Life and represented the Christ Child.
Legend also suggests that, in the late 16th century, Martin Luther (the founder of the Protestant religion) was the first to decorate an indoor tree with candles when he attempted to recreate the stars shining over a forest of evergreens.
The first mention of decorated trees being taken indoors came in 1605 in Germany - a country with a long Christmas tree history! The trees were initially decorated with fruit and sweets together with hand made objects such as quilled snowflakes and stars. German Christmas Markets began to sell shaped gingerbreads and wax ornaments which people bought as souvenirs of the fair and took home to hang on their tree.
Tinsel was also invented in Germany in about 1610. Up until fairly recently real silver was used, which was pulled into wafer thin strips by special machines. This was durable but tarnished quickly and mmany experiments took place to try and find an alternative - including a mix off lead.
For todays Christian, the origin of Christmas is, and should be, the birth of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible. Nothing more and nothing less. However, most of what we witness on December 25th each year has absolutely nothing to do with that blessed day, which probably occurred in late summer or early fall about 2,000 years ago. In fact, most of the customs and traditions of Christmas actually pre-date the birth of Jesus, and many of them are downright deceptive in their meaning and origin. Anyway, who cares when Christ was born?
Christmas Day,the 25th of December,is the biggest festival celebrated in the Christian countries of the world.Although everyone enjoys Christmas Day,it is particularly enjoyed to children,who get very excited because of the presents they know they are going to receive.Small children believe that their presents are brought by Father Christmas.Father Christmas is a kind of old man who,the children are told,lives at the North Pole.He travels through the sky on a sleigh which is pulled by reindeers and loaded with presents.Stopping on the roof of houses,he enters to climbing the chimney.When small children go to bed on Christmas Eve,they hang a stocking at the end of their beds.Their parents warn them not to try to look at Father Christmas,or he will not leave them anything.When they wake,they find their stockings filled with presents.Children are very excited on Christmas morning and always wake up early.
Christmas is also a family celebration.As any members of the family as possible gather to eat,play party games and watch the special Christmas programmes on TV.
The annual Christmas carnival comes again! Everybody happy rich robes, ready to celebrate Christmas.

Christmas Day falls on the twenty-fifth of December. It is a very happy day for many boys and girls. Before the term ends in some schools， the children act a nativity or “birth〞 play， showing how Jesus was born in a stable.
On the twenty-fourth of December， all children are very e某cited. Usually they are sent to bed early so that their parents can
get the presents ready. The younger children think that Father Christmas will come down the chimney or fireplace， so they hang up a sock for him to put presents in. The greedy ones even hang up a pillow-case or a sack to try to get more presents. Later that night， father or mother will put presents in the sock， and leave others at the side of the bed.
On Christmas morning， the children wake up very early. Some even turn on the light at two o‘clock， and most of them are awake by si某 o’clock， and the young ones play while the dinner is prepared. At about one o‘clock in the afternoon， the Christmas dinner is brought in. The turkey or chicken is quickly eaten. Children search in their Christmas pudding for new coins which are hidden in it. The rest of the day is full of games and eating until the happiest of all Christmas hollidays comes to an end.
