The Augean Stable(s)直译“奥吉亚斯的牛圈”,源自古希腊神话中关于赫拉克勒斯的英雄传说.
奥吉亚斯（Augeas）是古希腊西部厄利斯(Elis)的国王。他有一个极大的牛圈，里面养了头年（一说3000匹马），30年来未清扫过，粪秽堆积如山，十分肮脏。因此，the Augean stable=very dirty place.
古希腊神话中的英雄赫拉克勒斯(Heracles),亦称海格立斯(Hercules)，是宙斯同底比斯国王之女阿尔克墨涅所生的儿子，自幼在名师的传授下，学会了各种武艺和技能，神勇无敌，成为遐迩闻名的大力士。他因受到心胸狭窄的天后赫拉的迫害，不得不替迈锡尼国王欧律斯透斯服役十几年。赫拉克勒斯拒绝了“恶德”女神要他走享乐道路的诱惑，而听从了“美德”女神的忠告，决心在逆境中不畏艰险，为民除害造福。他在十二年中完成了12项英勇业绩，其中之一就是在一天之内将奥吉亚斯的牛圈打扫干净。赫拉克勒斯先在牛圈的一端挖了深沟，引来附近的阿尔裴斯河和珀涅俄斯河的喝水灌入牛圈，而在另一端开一出口，使喝水流经牛圈，借用水利冲洗积粪。这样，他在一夜之间将30年没有打扫过的肮脏不堪的牛圈，打扫的干干净净。奥吉亚斯曾许诺事成之后把牛群的十分之一给赫拉克勒斯，作为劳动报酬，后来当他获悉赫拉克勒斯是奉欧律斯透斯之命来完成这项任务的，竟自食其果，于是被赫拉克勒斯杀死
这个神话传说反映了古代人民苦干加巧干的精神，体现了人类征服自然的力量和智慧。伟大的革命导师马克思、恩格斯、列宁、斯大林在他们的著作中，多次引用够这个典故。在马列主义经典中，这个成语有时译为“肮脏的马厩”，有时译为“奥吉亚斯的牛圈”。在这里，stable除了泛指地点外，还可代表某些不良的制度，下流的习俗和恶劣的作风等等。由此，人们用the Augean stable这个成语来比喻非常的地方或长期形成的积弊。它常比to clean,to cleanse,to reform等动词连用，表示to bring about a drastic reform in some public evil的意思

Efficient and stable generation of transgenic silkworm, Bombyx mori with the lepidopteran derived transposon piggyBac
The piggyBac transposable element was successfully used for generation of the transgenic silkworm, Bombyx mori. The EGFP was adopted in this study as a screening marker in transgenic vector under the control of an artificial promoter containing Pax-6 binding sites that can drive eye-specific genes expression in various insect species including B. mori and Drosophila. 111 independent transgenic lines were obtained among 700 fertile G0 moths. Most of the transgenic lines contained two or more chromosomal insertions of the EGFP marker, which were stably inherited over more than six generations during the time of this project. PiggyBac-mediated transposition was confirmed by identifying the characteristic TTAA duplication sequence at the insertion sites. The stable and high efficient transmission of a genetic marker into B. mori confirms the usage of this vector-marker system for industrial production and theoretical research.

Numerical approximations of Cahn-Hilliard phase-field model for the two-phase incompressible flows are considered in this paper. Several efficient and energy stable time discretization schemes for the coupled nonlinear Cahn-Hilliard phase-field system for both the matched density case and the variable density case are constructed, and are shown to satisfy discrete energy laws which are analogous to the continuous energy laws.

The Breit interaction contains singular terms which may lead to an instability in quark-antiquark bound state calculations. We regularize the Breit interaction by multiplying the singular terms in momentum space by the form factor μ2/(q2+μ2) such that the interaction is not singular at the origin and the intermediate-and long-range parts of the interaction remain unchanged. The singular terms in the Breit potential find their stable contributions in the calculations after being multiplied by the form factor with different powers. Such a regularized Breit potential with a linear and a relativistically corrected confining potential are applied to the study of qq bound states. The spectra for most familiar mesons are consistently obtained and agree well with the experimental data.

RNA hairpins containing UNCG, GNRA, CUUG (N=A, U, C or G, R＝G or A) loops are unusually thermodynamic stable and conserved structures. The structural features of these hairpin loops are very special, and they play very important roles in vivo. They are prevalent in rRNA, catalytic RNA and non-coding mRNA. However, the 5′ C(UUCG)G 3′ hairpin is not found in the folding structure of 88 human mRNA coding regions. It is also different from rRNA in that there is no preference for certain sequences among tetraloops in these 88 mRNA folding structures.
