Arthur Miller(1915-)is universally recognized as one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century. Miller` s father had moved to the USA from Austria Hungary, drawn like so many others by the“ Great American Dream”. However, he experienced severe financial hardship when his family business was ruined in the Great Depression of the early l930s.
Millers' s most famous play, Death of a Salesman , is a powerful attack on the American system ,with its aggressive way of doing business and its insistence on money and social status as indicators of worth. In Willy Loman , the hero of the play, we see a man who has got into trouble with his worth. Willy is “burnt out” and in the cruel world of business there is no room for sentiment : if he can't do the work, then he is no good to his employer, the Wagner Company, and he must go. Willy is painfully aware of this, and at loss as to what to do with his lack of success. He refuses to face the fact that he has failed and kills himself in the end.
When it was first staged in 1949 ,the play was greeted with enthusiastic reviews ,and it won the Tony Award for Best Play, the New York Drama Critics` Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was the first play to win all three of these major awards.

Tim Richter and his wife, Linda, had taught for over 30 years near Buffalo, New York--he in computers, she in special education. ”Teaching means everything to us,“ Tim would say. In April, he learned he would need a heart operation. It was the kind of news that leads to some serious thinking about life's purpose.
Not long after the surgery, Tim saw a brochure describing Imagination Library, a program started by Dolly Parton' s foundation (基金会) that mailed a book every month to children from birth to age five in the singer's home town of Sevier, Tennessee. “I thought, maybe Linda and I could do something like this when we retire,” Tim recalls. Diana Jacobs thought her family had a workable plan to pay for college for her 21-year-old twin sons: a combination of savings, income, scholarships, and a modest amount of borrowing. Then her husband lost his job, and the plan fell apart.
“I have two kids in college, and I want to say ?come home,? but at the same time I want to provide them with a good education,” says Jacobs.
The Jacobs family did work out a solution: They asked and received more aid from the schools, and each son
increased his borrowing to the maximum amount through the federal loan (贷款) program. They will each graduate with $20,000 of debt, but at least they will be able to finish school.
With unemployment rising, financial aid administrators expect to hear more families like the Jacobs. More students are applying for aid, and more families expect to need student loans. College administrators are concerned that they will not have enough aid money to go around.
At the same time, tuition(学费)continues to rise. A report from the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education found that college tuition and fees increased 439% from 1982 to , while average family income rose just 147%. Student borrowing has more than doubled in the last decade,
“If we go on this way for another 25years, we won?t have an affordable system of higher education,” says Patrick M. Callan, president of the center. “The middle class families have been financing it through debt. They will send kids to college whatever it takes, even if that means a huge amount of debt.”
Financial aid administrators have been having a hard time as many companies decide that student loans are not profitable enough and have stopped making them. The good news, however, is that federal loans account for about three quarters of student borrowing, and the government says that money will flow uninterrupted.

Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Brain-computer
interface(BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.
Recently, two researchers, Jose Milan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic school in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated(展示)a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person?s thoughts.
In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right band. He
could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.
“our brain has billions of nerve ceils. These send signals through the spinal cord (脊髓)to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles,” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices.”
The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain.
Prof. Milan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain
signals and turns them into simple commands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this
wheelchair.”
He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology
they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.
A. help to update computer systems B. link the human brain with computers
C. help the disabled to recover D. control a person's thoughts
72. How“ did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory?
A. By controlling his muscles. B. By talking to the machine.
C. By moving his hand. D. By using his mind.
73. Which of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph 5?
A. scalp→computer→cap→wheelchair
B. computer→cap→scalp→wheelchair
C. scalp→cap→computer→wheelchair
D. cap→computer→scalp→wheelchair
74. The team will test with real patients to
A. make profits from them B. prove the technology useful to them
C. make them live longer D. learn about their physical condition
75. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Switzerland, the BCI Research Center
B. New Findings About How the Human Brain Works
C. BCI Could Mean More Freedom for the Disabled
D. Robotic Vehicles Could Help to Cure Brain Injuries
[ 1 ] Do you spend over an hour each day texting messages to your friends? Do you frequently ignore work, study, and other activities to check your phone for messages? Are you anxious and restless if you are separated from your mobile phone? Do you hardly ever use your phone to talk any more, and do your thumbs hurt from texting too much?
[2] If , then it is very possible that you are a textaholic. A textaholic can be defined
as someone who is addicted to sending and receiving messages. The main symptoms are a strong desire to text messages, which takes precedence (优先)over everything else, and bad moods, low spirits and a lack of self-confidence if messages fail to come in. The root of the problem, as with many addictions, is the desire to escape from emotional difficulties such as stress, anxiety and relationship problems. Experts warn that text
addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young.
[3] So what can you do if you think you may be a textaholic? The key is to get your life back in balance. Make sure you resist the urge to answer every message you receive, and consider leaving your mobile phone behind occasionally when you go out. Most importantly, make a point of spending quality time with friends and family, and make time to re-learn the art of face-to-face conversation instead of conducting your relationships by means of text messages. Not only will you save time and money, but you may also rediscover the pleasure of true communication.
76. How does the author introduce the topic of the text? (no more than 5 words)
77. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 2 with proper words. (no more than 8 words)
78. What emotional difficulties may be the causes of text addiction? (no more than 5 words)

diastance 表一段距离用a, 如固定搭配 from a distance of.., 第二个空the restaurant 是两人都知道的事物,是特指。
24.解析:A。 此句式it 做形式宾语的结构如下find/make/consider/suppose等+it+adj/n+to do/that….。
本文“which is..”
27.解析:A。 而且leading up to the house 可以换成“which leads up to the house”和“ path”是主动关系,所以用现在分词作后置定语。
in case 为“以防;以免”even if为“即使”if only 为“如果…”,so that “为了,以便”。
29.解析:A。
通过前半句“I?ve been very busy”现在完成时,可知搭配用的时间状语为“在过去的几周里”,固定搭配用介词“over the past couple of weeks=in the past couple of weeks”.
根据前半句“when I got on the bus”为明确的过去的时间状语,因此和一般过去时搭配。
whether “是否“, where “哪里“what “什么”,which “哪个“。
34.解析:A. A “tradition”[C] belief or custom passed on in this way; any long-established method, practice, etc

如原文“They asked and received more aid from the schools, and each son increased his borrowing to the maximum amount through the federal loan (贷款) program.”,也即是选项B。
68. A。 由第四段“expect to hear more families like the Jacobs”可以得知 财政援助的管理员们预期会看到更多像Jacobs一家的情况,同义转换即选项A。而BD原文没有提到,C 从第五段“Student borrowing has more than doubled in the last decade”,可知在过去里已经长了一倍还多,因此是错的。
69. C。 从第六段最后一句话“They will send kids to college whatever it takes, even if that means a huge amount of debt.”
见第二段“Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right band.”。
见最后一段“to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from.”,证明他们可以从中获得的好处。
75.C. 本文是新闻文体,因此要关注首段的中心,由首段的第二句话“Brain-computer interface(BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.”
76.By asking/raising questions.
77. you answer “yes” to any of the questions。
78. stress anxiety relationship problems。
79. It may become the most common form of addiction , especially among the young.此题要求回答问题且有字数限制,原文提到“Experts warn that text addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young.”
80.How to get rid of text addiction.

Wednesday March 18th, Fine
This morning, over twenty Australian middle school students came to our school for a visit. My classmates and I gathered at the school gate at 8:20 and gave them a warm welcome. Then I took them to the reception room and we had a get-together there. At ten o'clock, we showed them around our library, our lab and the school factory. At half past eleven, we had lunch with the Australian students in the school dining-hall and then gave presents to each other. Time passed quickly and soon it was half past one in the afternoon. We had to say good-bye to each other.
Never shall I forget the day –––– March 18th.

My Mother
I came back to school after the summer vacation. As soon as I settled down, I made a phone call to my mother. When I talked to her, I could not hold back my tears. “After all,” I said, “You’re my mother.”
During the vacation, mother and I had a quarrel. After that we were unwilling to talk with each other. She thought I was her sweet daughter and I believed that she did not respect me. Then after few days, I left home. My mother gave me a full package of home-make food and she said to me, “I cook this morning, take this then you can have it on the train.” However, I refuse to take it. I just turned away and slam the door without saying goodbye to my mother. I was still angry about her. “You’re still my good girl.” My mother said in a low voice chocked with sob.
On the train I could not eat anything, I felt terrible. How I wish I had said sorry to my mother before I left. Now all I want to say is, will you forgive me, my dear mother?

Across Britain, burnt toast will be served to mothers in bed this morning as older sons and daughters to deliver their supermarket bunches of flowers,But,according to a new study,we should be placing a higher value on motherhood all year.
Mothers have long known that their home worked was just heavy as paid work. Now,the new study has shown that if they were paid for their parental labours, they would earn as much as$172,000 a year.
The study looked at the range of jobs mothers do,as well as the hours they are working,to determine the figure. This would make their yearly income $3000 more than the Prime Minister earns.
By analysing the numbers,it found the average mother works 119 hours a week,40 of which would usually be paid at a standard rate 79 hours as overtime. After questioning 1,000 mothers with children under 18,it found that ,on mmost days, mums started their routine work at 7am and finished at around 11pm.
To calculate just how much mothers would earn from that labour,it suggested some of the roles that mums could take on,including housekeeper,part-time lawyer, personal trainer and entertainer.being a prt-time laeyer,at $48.98 an hour, would prove to be the most profitable of the “mum jibs”,with psychologist(心理学家)a close second.
It also asked mothers about the challenges they face, with 80 percent making emotional(情感的) emand as the hardest thing about motherhood.
Over a thord of mums felt they needed more training angd around half said they missed going out with friends.
The study shoes mothers marter all year long and not just on,Mother’s Day.The emotional, physical and mental energy mothers devote to their chilren can be necer-ending,but children are alos sources of great joy and happiness.Investing(投入)in time for parenting and raising relationships is money well spent.

Their cheery song brightens many a winter's day. But robins are in danger of wearing themselves out by singing too much. Robins are singing all night一as well as during the day,British-based researchers say.
David Dominoni, of Glasgow University, said that light from street lamps, takeaway signs and homes is affecting the birds' biological clock, leading to them being wide awake when they should be asleep.
Dr Dominoni, who is putting cameras inside nesting boxes to track sleeping patterns, said lack of sleep could put the birds'health at risk. His study shows that when robins are exposed to light at night in the lab, it leads to some genes being active at the wrong time of day. And the more birds are exposed to light, the more active they are at night.
He told people at a conference, ”There have been a couple of studies suggesting they are increasing their song output at night and during the day they are still singing. Singing is a costly behaviour and it takes energy. So by increasing their song output, there mtgrit be some costs of energy.“
And it is not just robins that are being kept awake by artificial light. Blackoiids and seagulls are also being more nocturnal. Dr Dominoni said, ”In Glasgow where I live, gulls are a serious problem.I have people coming to me saying `You are the bird expert. Can you help us kill these gulls?'.During the breeding(繁殖)season, between April and June, they are very active at night and very noisy and people can't sleep.“
Although Dr Dominoni has only studied light pollution, other research concluded that robins living in noisy cities have started to sing at night to make themselves heard over loud noise.
However, some birds thrive(兴旺)in noisy environments. A study from California Polytechnic University found more hummingbirds in areas with heavy industrial machinery. It is thought that they are capitalising on their predators(天敌)fleeing to quieter areas.
42. According to Dr Dominoni's study, what causerrobins to sing so much?
A. The breeding season. B. The light in modem
C. The dangerous environment. D. The noise from heavy machinery.
43. What is the researchers' concern over the increase of birds' song output?
A. The environment might be polluted.
B. The birds' health might be damaged.
C. The industry cost might be increased.
D.The people's hearing might be affected.
44. What does the underlined word ”nocturnal" in Paragraph 5 mean?
A. Active at night. B. Inactive at night.
C. Active during the day. D.Inactive during the day.
45. Why do some birds thrive in noisy environments?
A. Because there are fewer dangers.
B. Because there is more food to eat.
C. Because there is less light pollution
D. Because there are more places to take shelter.

Who’sMichael Jordon? Where is Sydney?这类不需要听就能回答的问题,也不要设计What day is today?
