Reading the old man and the sea About the author Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest American writers in 20th century, is the representative of “lost generation” writer. He was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. worked as a reporter after graduating from high school in 1917.,amd served as an ambulance driver in the Italian infantry and was wounded just before his 19th birthday. Hospitalized, Hemingway fell in love with an older nurse.

In 1954, Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In his life, Hemingway married four times and wrote numerous essays, short stories and novels. The effects of Hemingway's lifelong depressions, illnesses and accidents caught up with him. In July 1961, he committed suicide in Ketchum, Idaho.

About the book The old man and the sea is one of Hemingway’s most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power , it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman ,down on his luck ,and his supreme ordeal ---a relentless , agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream . Here Hemingway recasts , in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat , of personal triumph won from loss . Written in 1952 ,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature .

About the old man Santiago is described as a failure by other fishermen in the village for catching no fish for a long time . However, he should be regarded as a hero all his life , when he had played the hand game with the great Negro from Cienfuegos who was the strongest man on the docks ;when he fight with that large marlin ; when he struggle with the sharks . You can find his optimism, confidence, wisdom, perseverance and bravery anywhere . I admire him not only because these but also his regarding these as the things he had to do , the rules he had to obey . Such a man is really a man , a marvelous man . All the characters of him is worth being learned not only in Hemingway’s times ,but for ever ; not only for a certain kind of man , but for all of us .Let’s always remember his word “But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

Little boys as I was,I was interest in picture books and storybooks.I wasstruck by them.No sooner had I entered the middle school than I began to readnovel, plays, essays and so on.I found I could get much from them.Little by littleI took great interest in literature and last term I won the first prize in position contest among middle-school students in Zhe Jiang. Reading “The Emperor's New Clothes”,I had to let out a burst of laughterover his fool.“The Little Match Girl” couldn't keep me from crying for hermisery.“ Robinson Crusoe” took me into a strange world full of danger. And I wasalso deeply impressed by Helen Keller's patience and perseverance。 Besidesthese, books also tell me other thing -how to be a man and how to tell thedifference between right and wrong. In a word, good books can make me know what Ididn't before. So I think of a good book as my best friend. Jane Eyre—A Real Beauty

After reading Jane Eyre, I think Jane Eyre is a great woman。 Through aserious of troublesome situations between Jane Eyre and Mr。 Rochester, theauthor set up a great female image before readers: insisting on maintaining anindependent personality, pursuing individual freedom, advocating equality oflife and being confident before hard conditions。

Her early life at Gateshead was terrible, everyone seems harsh on her。 Shesurvives her parents at an early age, and has to live with her ugly aunt andthree cousins。 She suffers large quantities of bad conditions that others maynot experience。 However, she does not give up in despair, she does not destroyherself mentally, instead, Jane Eyre is filled with unlimited confidence, andshe is a strong spirit, a victory over the inner personality。

She is then forced to send to Lowood Institution, unfortunately, life thereturns out to be terrible, too。 She is still under physical and spiritualpunishment。 Mr Brocklehurst insults her to be a liar before all pupils andteachers。 But there she meets one sincere friend Helen Burns and one sincereteacher Miss Temple。 They always treat her well。 She then behaves very well andget many people’s recognition。 Six years later, she makes a teacher there。

After two years teaching life at Lowood Institution, she plans to leavethere to pursuit her own life and happiness。 She was in a position of governessthrough a letter from Thornfield。 Her life was totally changed after that。 Thereshe met a lovely girl, Adele and her master, Mr。 Rochester。 She has a specialfeeling about them。 With the development of the plots, Jane Eyre succeed a largesum of money from his uncle, and through all bitter things which was caused byRochester’s wife in Thornfield, Jane Eyre and Mr。Rockester finally get marriedand lead an ideal life。

I think Jane Eyre is an autobiography of Charlotte Bronte。 Although thestory is made up, the heroine and people's life and the environment in the storywere taken from the details of real people around and experience。 CharlotteBronte described a young girl’s struggling life to express her inner thought:everyone is equal regardless of his or her gender。 The uniqueness of Jane Eyreis not only lies in its truth and the strong artistic appeal, but also lies inthe particular female image。 The love story of Rochester and Jane Eyre vividlyshows the fire of passion and sincere heart strongly reveals their notions oflove。 She looks down upon the upper class who only use their power to do whatthey intend to do and laughs at their stupid to show her independent characterand beauty dream。

In the actual fact, she wasn’t pretty, even herself knows that, and ofcourse, the ordinary appearance make others have bad opinion on her, even herown aunt dislike her。 And some others even thought that she was easy to lookdown upon and tease, but she was totally much more than “the plain and uglytutor”。 And as a little governess she said to her master: “Do you think my poor, obscure, plain, and little has led me to be a soulless and heartless person? Youhave done a wrong thing!”Underneath these lines sees the equality of human inJane Eyre’s mind。 She has affection towards her master, Mr。 Rochester, but whenshe finds that he has already had a wife, she leaves him and her love placewithout consideration。 Although God did not grant her a beauty and wealthperson, instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thoughtful brain。 Her idea ofequality and self-respect impressed us extremely much and make us feel the powerinside her small body。

In my mind, a person’s beauty on the face can only make others feel that heor she is attractive or charming, if his or her mind isn’t the same noble as theappearance, beauty of this kind cannot last for a long time, because otherpeople will one day find that the beauty which had charmed them was only asuperficial one, it’s not sincere, they will not like the person any more。 For along time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can becalled as an everlasting beauty, just as Albert Einstein said: “A person must beheld accountable for their biological survival or all of the meaning or purpose, from an objective point of view, I think it is ridiculous。 Everyone can have acertain ideal, which determines the ideal and his efforts to determine thedirection。 In this sense, I never easy and the enjoyment of life as an end initself, the ethical basis of this, I call it the ideal pigsty。 I lit up theroad, and continue to give me new courage to face up to the

pleasure of the ideal life is good and the beautiful and true。 If it werenot for like-minded between the warm feelings, but focus on the objective world, the arts and sciences in the field of work will never reach the target, and thenit seems to me that life would be empty。 There are efforts to pursue the goal ofthe vulgar - property, vanity, luxury living, I think it is despicable。”

Now I get a better understanding of what real beauty is, as we are allhuman-beings, so we should distinguish whether a man is noble or vulgar。

Jane Eyre’s story makes me thinking about our future life and I learn muchfrom her experiences, I know everyone will have a better tomorrow if one holdshis beliefs, regardless of one’s status and the situation he is in。

Shakspere (wrong spelling) created Hamlet--a man with wisdom and courage。In order to revenge on his uncle for killing his father, he pretented (spellingmistake) to be mad and suffered a series of misery。 On the contrary, we can alsosay that Hamlet is rude and selfish for he did not think twice before hisrevenge 。 if (Capitalize “If” since it is the beginning word of the sentence。) acountry has no king, how can a country keep alive (You need a question mark heresince it is a question。) So, every thing has two sides, the bright side andadumbral side。 Every time we make a decision we have to think twice。

Comment:

Be careful with your spelling, grammar, and punctuation。 Too many uncessarymistakes。 It is good that you looked at both the dark and bright sides ofHamlet。 Thats quite objective and convincing。

Many people often use “mental illness” to scold one another。 It isobversely that people always have some social prejudice on the “mentalillness”。

In many cases, psychopaths always refuse to be given medication。 No one candeny that it is disbeneficial to them, but the problem is not so simple。We mustrealize that the enforced behavior against the respondent's will ,such asinjection of mind-altering drugs ,is highly offensive to their dignity andautonomy。 To some sufferers, the word “normal” is so boring, they really hatethis, and I have to say that they also own the right to stand on theirdignity!

As a final ment, I should say that no matter how terrible the people maybe, they should be entitled to make decision and there is on doubt thatprejudice should be avoided in society。

There being always a big disparity and contradiction between real life and life in literature,so we cannot take everything as God's doing when life seems difficult and unpredicted to us.Maybe it is a chance given to us to adjust ourselves to the society when facing with frustrations or accidents. And this is the cruelty of the reality:the imagination is differs from reality and people have no ideas about how to deal with such a situation. Therefore, Madame Bovary,as an embodiment of reality and ideal of life, was born.

Madame Bovary is one of Gustave Flaubert's representative works and it takes nearly five years to be finished.Gustave Flaubert was the important Critical Realism writer in French Flaubert, whose works reflect the 1848-1871 era between the French style, exposed the ugly vulgar bourgeois society. He was famous for his creation theory --- “objective and indifferent” and carved artistic style in the history of French literature. For many critics and historians of French literature, Flaubert is by far the most modern of the great nineteenth-century novelists, and it is easy to see why. Because he has being an originator of 'realism' in prose fiction. But, what makes his writing in Mandame Bovary distinctively modern rather than the simple continuation of an earlier self-conscious literary manner? It is because that Flaubert ascribes to writers in the exercise of their craft.

Madame Bovary depicts a process of the gradual degeneration of a bourgeois woman who grew up in a church and was not satisfied with her a mediocre life. In order to pursue a romantic hero and elegant life, the actress, Emma, stoop and has adulterous relationship with Leon and Rodolphe. As her family cannot enable her to enjoy a luxurious life, she has to borrow much money to spend with her lovers. Ultimately ,because of inability to repay debt, she ruined her own reputation then commit suicide and left a little daughter and her husband alone .However, after Emma's death the town is as usual just as nothing special happened.Rodolphe idles away time by hunting in the forest all day long and Leon also has an easy time in the city. What a grieved, poor woman!

By describing a married woman's life experience which is full of passion and fervor, Flaubert used a succinct, exquisitive wirting style profoundly reappear the French social life in the middle 19th and truly reveal the dark of the whole country at that time. Flaubert, the author was sickened with the French mdiddle class he was born into.He believed them to be lazy, unconcerned, and selffish. Madame Bovary is about such a self-centered, envious and dramatic middle class French woman. The book was originally in French, but was translated into English.

Madame Emma Bovary is a tragic person. She rans after romantic love and a prodigal life , However, she does not realize that her living conditions cannot guarantee her what she wants. When love is built on the base of substance, it is doomed to be a tragedy. No matter how degenerate it is, there to be only one result---tragedy. So, who forces Emma to go to the dead end? It is the people's indifference and cold made her disapppinted? Or she gives up herself to real life? Perhaps, it is that society compel her to poison herself. From Emma's life, we can easily find that every one has a personal attitude towards dreams' chasing. And for us, we seldom imaging and daydreaming. However,Madame Emma Bovary sinked into using her own version of the image and, therefore, her still adolescent habits of imagination have brought her into radical company. Madame bovary's extremely action is absolutely reflection of her unsatisfied with herself. These so-called dreams are definitely illusory and unreal.

After finishing reading this book, for a long time, I just immerse myself in the book and cannot come back to the real world. It shocks me that Flaubert is so intelligent and wise that the world he describes in the book Madame Bovary can also reflects some serious problems in today’s life. They have such a surprising, unbelievable things in common! A majority of people in nowadays, just like Emma, dreaming of finding a prince or a princess and enjoying a happy life without being bothered by daily chores and having to work for life. However, how could these daydreams can come to be a reality in a high-paced and competed society? Apparently, the answer is cannot! Thus, we should learn to figure out the current situaton and have our eyes opened by the social reality. As an old sayings“As we sow,so we will reap. ” we have to strive for our dreams with our own hands and sweat. In brief, a good book cannot only has an interesting story but also can educates the readers and still exists with hundreds of years go by.

比如在教授used to do sth.

如“I am writing now.”、“I have written a letter.”、“I will write a letter tomorrow .”

They're Jane and Mary. Who is taller, Jane or Mary?

Ss: Jane is taller.

T: Jane is taller than Mary.

Ss: Jane is taller than Mary..

A is taller than B.这一结构有了较深印象。

T: They're Tom and Bill. Who is thinner, Tom or Bill

Ss: Tom is taller.

T: Tom is taller than Bill.

Ss: Tom is taller than Bill.

“A tale of two cities” is one of Dickens's most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's GREat strength.
